  1. the NY Rangers take offense to that comment
  2. wow, i'm pretty thrilled that they didn't have to give up a 2nd 1st to get Harvey.
  3. fargas and mike bush can't be too pleased right now
  4. come september we're really going to rue that 1/5 of a loss
  5. why not, it's in good sportsmanship to allow them a run or two.
  6. leading the AL in BBs right now is Nick Markakis
  7. yorman bazardo
  8. what about Matt Kemp and BJ Upton?
  9. Don't tell them that. DBacks fans will tell you that theirs is the toughest division. Ah yes, home of the 5-team division with 4 teams below .500. Of course I'm embellishing a bit due to the early season, but from a winning % perspective, the NL West is technically the worst division in baseball right now See, this is why we need Meph and his Markov chains. The NL West is definitely not the worst division. They have 4 legit winning record teams (and one legit 100 loss team). Where the hell have the sample size police gone with everyone going crazy and drawing insane conclusions about this very young season. I hate the Giants offense as much as anybody else here, but their pitching is far too good to lose 100 games. I'm thinking they lose fewer than 90.
  10. I hear they're going to dig up Russell Branyan just for the Cubs series. thats the brewers
  11. eight games against the san diego khalils oh man we're toast
  12. i cant understand why he's not running at all
  13. When you bat a guy leadoff, you are making sure they get the most PAs of anyone. Not if they miss a month. To make sure he'd get the most at bats of anyone on the team at this point you'd have to bench Lee for an equivalent amount of time. ;) Or just get rid of Lee. It's my firm belief that Soriano will be Lee's replacement at 1B. It's just a question of when. I actually like the idea of trading Lee if he has a huge year. His trade value would be high enough to get a real nice corner OF to replace Soriano, and putting Sori at 1B would keep him healthy, I hope. no trade clause
  14. "oh crap where did i leave my testicles??"
  15. you're looking too closely at the numbers in this case. his swing and approach is enormously different than it was in 06 and the start of 07. he's not lunging after every pitch indiscriminately. but if you were to look at the numbers, his BB:K in AAA last year, the AFL and the majors thus far this season have all been a dramatic improvement (70:99 combined) from his 06 atrocities.
  16. For the Jags, I'm not sold on Sensabaugh as the long term answer and there aren't any glaring positions of need with Groves being selected previously to address the pass rush. Curtis Lofton and Trevor Laws could have gone here, but they'll go in a different direction. With the 58th pick, the Jacksonville Jaguars select: Tyrell Johnson, S, Arkansas St. http://www.pigskinpress.com/images/tjint.gif
  17. I must say, i LOVE your sig. i ripped it off- somebody else had made it
  18. which translated to a 4.7 warp. i'm not trying to be contrarian i just think thats interesting. WARP incorporates defense, and Neifi was one of the best defensive SS in baseball in 2005. Not to mention that a 4.7 warp isn't really 4.7 wins above a replacement level player. You'd be hard pressed to find anybody that actually matches their definition of replacement level. i'm aware of that, but it either means one of two things: 1) he was unfairly abused by the fans that year, or 2) warp is nonsense
  19. which translated to a 4.7 warp. i'm not trying to be contrarian i just think thats interesting.
  20. the problem isnt Reed Johnson, it's that Pie was given a total of four games as a starter and has been firmly entrenched in the dog house ever since. It took 1 game for Eric Patterson to get sent back down. It took 8 pitches for Pignatiello to get sent down. It took 7 ABs for Soto to get sent back to Iowa last year. and so forth you can't hand out 8 and 9-figure contracts to fill every hole on your team, you need young minimum salary players to step in and play. Lou has absolutely no concern of the future, which is scary because winning this year becomes so much more critical with the window rapidly closing. that we're having success thus far shouldn't cover up what is a very legitimate concern. what are we doing now to get any trade value out of Pie? his value is rapidly diminishing when we're indicating we're much more comfortable with a guy fresh off the waiver wire out there instead. and like Juan Cruz, Patterson, Farnsworth, we'll have waited until his value is at an all-time low before trading him.
  21. "this is what another couple of guys figured the right answer was" that settles it you win
  22. with Soriano hurt it's not impossible for both Reed and Pie to get starts, in their natural positions, but that thought has not been considered. it's disappointing but that's life.
  23. i'm thrilled that Reed's hitting .356, but it's definitely bittersweet because the odds are stacked so much against Pie right now that he (in my opinion) probably doesn't finish the summer with us, and that'll have pronounced negative longterm effects. the timing is coincidental; i was miffed a while ago when he was obviously out of chances to prove himself and Johnson was not hitting .356.
