  1. then you restrained yourself better than i could
  2. i dont know why 6 million is fair market value for 37 year old piece of trash Mark Loretta but not for a kid with great talent who could be a superstar if i own a club, i'm allocating a really reasonable part of my budget to the draft; just keep selecting the best talent each round, signability be damned
  3. and if we keep winning at the same clip we've been (.615), the Brewers would have to finish 30-9 to tie us in the division
  4. similarly, BJ Upton has been pulled from a game twice in the last week or two for lack of hustle. i know of a young CF who hustles that we could exchange for him
  5. this looked like an idea to consider around this time last year, before Lee went on a power surge in September to the tune of a .365 avg and 16 XBHs whatever happens, I don't think I ever want him sitting on the bench for home games; give him a break when we're away
  6. how about just moving him down in the order? there are worse things in the world than having a 820 OPS gold glover on your team
  7. Bagwell's injury-plagued last season also dropped him under the .300 threshold In another episode of "what were the writers thinking?", we look at the 1999 MVP awarding: Sosa hits 63 HRs, 141 RBI and McGwire hits 65 HR, 147 RBI and they finish 9th and 5th place in the voting, respectively. This would all be explainable if the writers valued different skills that year, like players with a high batting average or pitching aces, but the list is just littered with other HR hitters who were half as good as these two. Matt Williams with 30 fewer HRs than Big Mac and he finishes with 154 more points? It's not as if he brought a whole lot else to the game. The same hold true for Greg Vaughn. This is as glaring an example as any of writers wrongly deeming players on non-playoff teams as valueless.
  8. the Mariners, Nationals and Padres are trying like hell to get this guy
  9. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j5er6i5-CKQ siiiiick
  10. maybe one should read the thread before complaining about people complaining. except Ping's first post i can imagine he'll still take exception with that one Take exception to what? the lengthy list of pet peeves bolded comments gave me impression he wouldn't really appreciate them, legitimacy aside
  11. fwiw http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/samardzija-not-in-command 20 strikes & 9 balls today though, i'm not concerned about this
  12. it would stand to reason WPA's kinda awful for determining such things
  13. maybe one should read the thread before complaining about people complaining. except Ping's first post i can imagine he'll still take exception with that one
  14. people complaining about players posing for HRs if they could hit a ball 400 feet, they'd admire it too its like watching yourself in a mirror during sex
  15. Don Cherry will tell you all of the Europeans are soft
  16. the question called for an obvious answer that's why Dunn gets bashed more than Howard about his Ks
  17. something that I think is represented/factored into wins is a pitcher's stamina. power pitchers who rack up higher pitch counts and pitch fewer innings will factor in fewer decisions than pitch-to-contact pitchers. there is value in "eating innings" from the standpoint of saving your bullpen. that's not to say I'd rather have Wakefield than Harden, but I'd view a 2.50 ERA much differently from Halladay than Harden. my biggest baseball pet peeve: Kevin Youkilis i really hate watching that guy hit
  18. This is the same as it always is. Ramirez, Zambrano, Lee, Soriano, Soto have all been as productive as you could have expected them to be. It's how Theriot, Dempster, Edmonds have overperformed expectations that put us in the position we're in now instead of closely bunched in the standings with Milwaukee as we'd have projected. Whether or not that's what determines value is debatable. Everything considered, I'm inclined to say Dempster.
  19. .278 & .247 when Howard doesn't K he's making much better contact
  20. rico fata & kessel i don't like Havlat being called a top-5 forward, without the condition 'offensively'. there are many other players i would prefer to have considering their all around game. he is instant offense though.
  21. everyone worth a crap got injured. They are rolling out an outfield of Francisco, Sizemore and Gutierrez these days and Andy Marte is hitting about .150 for what it's worth, Sizemore is pretty decent
  22. if the Padres slash their payroll by $34m, they're one Jake Peavy blown elbow away from probably the first winless season in MLB history
  23. whats with the Brenly bolding?
  24. You said it, man. Nobody effs with the Jesus.
