  2. and sinker and change
  3. maybe he meant Armando Rios and it was just an unfortunate Freudian slip
  4. Nook had no bat speed. I honestly have no idea why Gomez just stopped running. 5-14 for SB's since May 12. This is a guy who averaged 68 steals per 162 games in the minors. it's like he shows up to play fantastic defense and the rest of the game is half-assed. he's coasting on tools alone right now. ...which just goes to show how disingenuous the quote in the original post of this thread was. it's better GM manners to come up with some hairbrained rationalization for what looks like a stupid move. "i'll take the guy with the bad ERA and good record" rather than "Livan's been pretty shitty/lucky and we're just manipulating another year out of Liriano at this point" serves well enough to keep people off your trail of penny pinching.
  5. dumbest organization in pro sports? dumbest question in recent NSBB history?
  6. this seems as kind of a 2006 Ray Durham situation. he's had a rejuvenation but at the end of the day GMs are going to look at his age and it will really temper their expectations for what he has left to contribute. Durham got 3/20 as a 35 year old, and Edmonds being 38, i can't see anything more than 1/9 or 2/15. he'll probably be viewed as a LF also.
  7. ick i do not like Bowden's mechanics at all. he hangs his arm down in his leg kick twisting his wrist around almost like you'd see a little 8 year old little leaguer doing. it just screams shoulder injury to me.
  8. the Cardinals duh
  9. i think its safe to say this R. Garcia guy is under performing his FIP
  10. Brandon Moss not Damien Moss Laroche is a future .400/.500 hitter though, I like what the Pirates got back in this one.
  11. that's a bizarre misinterpretation i plainly said all GMs probably say that crap because they think it's what the majority of the meathead fans like to hear, but GMs who are perceived as more forward thinking get much more leeway for their innocuous platitudes
  12. 60% of the time those guesses were correct every time i think it's safe to say Hendry is a big lover of the OBP nowadays
  13. They both play(ed) for San Diego. wrong answer
  14. question what do Giles and Bradley have in common?
  15. we're "interested" in Bradley every single stinkin year and every time it's all just a big tease
  16. this is reminiscent of the Jesse Foppert deal where the Mariners thought they were getting a pitcher with high upside, but the Marlins are in the class with the A's, Cubs, Giants, Braves and Cardinals insofar that they're beyond reproach for scouting pitching. these teams (Zito debacle aside) all have such a great ability for recognizing pitching talent that I don't really have much derision for when they make a move that on the surface looks ill-advised.
  17. I think that DePo blog posting was more posturing than anything. yeah I agree, and not to derail the topic, but if Hendry said something like this NSBB would freak out. mostly we can't tell what GMs think from what they say because they all just feed fans crap they think they want to hear.
  18. DOUMIT and they'll have a lot more than that if they trade McLouth Why trade McLouth? He's still cheap production for a while, no? well a lineup with Tabata and Alvarez is several years in the future, where I'm presuming he'll price himself out of their range a la Bay
  19. I don't think that's true. The Padres are a huge mess, and a 35 year old veteran outfielder is not the key piece to build around. By the time the Padres fix their current mess, Giles will likely be retired. If they can get something for him now, they should. yeah, I know that's just the PR spin that was coming from Depod for what it's worth (mostly nothing) Giles has a .301 .457 .609 career line at Wrigley
  20. Giles intangibles make him far too valuable to the Padres to move him oh and DeJesus excites me, though it would sadly mean the end of Pie with the team
  21. i am really loving this deal from the Tigers perspective
  22. Bailey for Laird is hilarious. why not Volquez? but I like Teagarden a lot. not for the Cubs obviously, but there are a lot of teams out there that would be well served to inquire about his price.
  23. DOUMIT and they'll have a lot more than that if they trade McLouth
  24. yes, and it was his idea to start doing it
  25. Jovan Rosa how on earth can you get 35 doubles and only 4 of your hits go over the walls? Brandon Guyer's caught my interest this month
