    as an experiment, some team should use the BA draft top 200 as a checklist, go like 6-7% under each draftees initial demands and just restrain themselves from signing Gary Matthews Jr or Jason Marquis/whichever reliever they plan on signing that offseason and see where that gets them. probably set up pretty nicely for a few years down the line, is my guess.

    i dont know why 6 million is fair market value for 37 year old piece of trash Mark Loretta but not for a kid with great talent who could be a superstar if i own a club, i'm allocating a really reasonable part of my budget to the draft; just keep selecting the best talent each round, signability be damned

    this looked like an idea to consider around this time last year, before Lee went on a power surge in September to the tune of a .365 avg and 16 XBHs whatever happens, I don't think I ever want him sitting on the bench for home games; give him a break when we're away

    Bagwell's injury-plagued last season also dropped him under the .300 threshold In another episode of "what were the writers thinking?", we look at the 1999 MVP awarding: Sosa hits 63 HRs, 141 RBI and McGwire hits 65 HR, 147 RBI and they finish 9th and 5th place in the voting, respectively. This would all be explainable if the writers valued different skills that year, like players with a high batting average or pitching aces, but the list is just littered with other HR hitters who were half as good as these two. Matt Williams with 30 fewer HRs than Big Mac and he finishes with 154 more points? It's not as if he brought a whole lot else to the game. The same hold true for Greg Vaughn. This is as glaring an example as any of writers wrongly deeming players on non-playoff teams as valueless.

    something that I think is represented/factored into wins is a pitcher's stamina. power pitchers who rack up higher pitch counts and pitch fewer innings will factor in fewer decisions than pitch-to-contact pitchers. there is value in "eating innings" from the standpoint of saving your bullpen. that's not to say I'd rather have Wakefield than Harden, but I'd view a 2.50 ERA much differently from Halladay than Harden. my biggest baseball pet peeve: Kevin Youkilis i really hate watching that guy hit

    This is the same as it always is. Ramirez, Zambrano, Lee, Soriano, Soto have all been as productive as you could have expected them to be. It's how Theriot, Dempster, Edmonds have overperformed expectations that put us in the position we're in now instead of closely bunched in the standings with Milwaukee as we'd have projected. Whether or not that's what determines value is debatable. Everything considered, I'm inclined to say Dempster.
