    I would still take Milwaukee's. Mat Gamel is way better than anything the Pirates have, at least until Alvarez plays some professional games I also like Caleb Gindl, Cole Gillespie, Alcides Escobar, Angel Salome, Jeremy Jeffress, and Jonathan LuCroy. They are still pretty stacked. Oh and Tabata sucks. What has he slugged for his career, .350? No thanks. Gamel is not better than McCutchen, much less "way better", unless you're treating this as purely an OPS ranking while taking absolutely nothing else into account Tabata hit .300 in the FSL at 19 with a bum wrist; i'd gladly have him

    I know that I'm in the minority on all of this admiration about Dunn, but I would never call Dunn a "great hitter". A "great hitter" would be able to make contact with the ball more often than Dunn does. He has a .904 OPS and a .305 EQA. I would say that's a great hitter. I consider players like Bonds, Pujols, Manny Ramirez, ARod, Gwynn, etc. great hitters. Dunn is a great slugger, but not a great hitter in my book. As I stated earlier, the new emphasis on stats rewards sluggers and devalues non-sluggers. It is important to have some sluggers on a team, but it is great to have some players like Theriot, BRob, Ichiro, etc. on the team too. so you're saying that you'd rather have a team with a few theriots or ichiros on it rather than 8 Dunns? I bet I know which team would win i've gotta say i absolutely hate this argument

    in the grand scheme of things none of it really matters to me, even who wins i was really just making a point of the writers erroneous judgments in considering those players less valuable because the team they played on was crappy why is that hard to understand?

    as an experiment, some team should use the BA draft top 200 as a checklist, go like 6-7% under each draftees initial demands and just restrain themselves from signing Gary Matthews Jr or Jason Marquis/whichever reliever they plan on signing that offseason and see where that gets them. probably set up pretty nicely for a few years down the line, is my guess.

    i dont know why 6 million is fair market value for 37 year old piece of trash Mark Loretta but not for a kid with great talent who could be a superstar if i own a club, i'm allocating a really reasonable part of my budget to the draft; just keep selecting the best talent each round, signability be damned

    similarly, BJ Upton has been pulled from a game twice in the last week or two for lack of hustle. i know of a young CF who hustles that we could exchange for him
