    my guess would be that they have always realized what a huge hindrance his salary will continue to be when they Seabrook, Brouwer, etc. start getting raises too, but that now he could probably be somewhat adequately replaced in-house by a very similar player in Vishnevskiy

    wow, i just noticed the Giants traded Francisco Liriano and Joe Nathan for A.J. Pierzynski. that turned out to be a really solid deal for them. and the Giants got a really poor return on Pierzynski when they let him walk a year later.

    i wouldn't be too shocked to see Soriano moved to 1B to make room for Colvin only, the terrifying aspect of that is the assumption management would have that he could never make the switch back to the OF in the future

    he totaled ~18 wins in value over 6 seasons, with his worst two years being only slightly below average as a player i don't know how i can phrase that for you without getting caught in a fruitless semantics argument, but nonetheless it's more than fair to call him a consistent 3-win player
