  1. i love SF, ATL, MIA and DET for those lines
  2. this is the most excited i've ever been for a Lions team i'm getting all emotionally invested in bubble guys like Paul Pratt, Landon Cohen, DeDe Dorsey. the game last night was must-see viewing in the sneaky household, for crying out loud it's really pretty sad
  3. i forget who it was but in a prospects chat i remember Smith getting Joe Randa/David Bell comparisons, which would be pretty cool
  4. half of those things aren't even douchey
  5. Volstad's 6'7, he should have had Morgan in a Nolan Ryan headlock or something
  6. Bagwell was so f'in awesome
  7. oof, not a good day for the Lilly trade
  8. haha yeah, Suh ragdolling Delhomme was for sure the highlight of the game, and Best looked awesome in both plays they left him in for, gaining like 55 yards between the two before Schwartz felt pity on Cleveland if we had anything better than just Delmas, Levy & junk in the back 7 i'd be real giddy about our chances this year
  9. for a few seconds i honestly thought this post was about Votto good ole DB...
  10. no jamaal charles on that team, so i don't like it
  11. you'd have to be on hard drugs to think the two are comparable
  12. the upside to a platoon is having it work out sorta ok for a year, whereas the upside for Hawpe is you could have a great cheap solution for 1B for awhile and a very valuable asset anybody this side of [expletive] Mike Piazza can field 1B ok. the Colorado thing means he won't be spoiled as much with non-moving fastballs and we can drop our expected line of his slightly. his baseline skills haven't eroded, so he's nearly as safe a bet as there is in baseball to hit pretty well (which isn't saying much, there really are very few safe bets and this statement could have been used for Aramis a few months ago)
  13. well i had been using thefootballknowitall but then that site got abandoned
  14. wait is that the Alex Sanchez, who played for the Tigers and always had more CS than BBs? if so, i hated that guy; his routes in the OF were like a little girl running from a bee
  15. nothing against Dunn, but if you consider we're going to need like $40-50M to acquire his services when we let a guy with a .902 OPS the last four seasons get away, signing just a milb deal, it just makes no sense at all (assuming we target Dunn hard, which seems likely to be our #1 offseason priority) i understand it sounds like i'm jumping to a few conclusions here, but my general point is i think we let a great opportunity pass us by
  16. Dave Cameron's take on bb-ref vs. fangraphs WAR:
  17. not if you're josh vitters
  18. yup, that was the case. Kevin Jones was awesome that year too, and Forte's pretty nasty, if we're trying to make comparisons. Taylor starting would probably be a big upgrade to the offense
  19. i'd probably rather avoid Dunn and hold out hope that we can sign Adrian Gonzalez, Prince Fielder, even Pujols Pena or Berkman shouldn't be a real humongous downgrade for 11 in which we'll struggle to contend regardless, and both should come pretty affordable on a Beltre-type prove-yourself deal
  20. Andres Torres? This is why I hate defensive metrics. he's also 2nd in batting runs amongst all CFs in baseball, trailing Carlos Gonzalez by the slimmest of margins – also of note, he's virtually equivalent to Crawford, Wright and Braun by the same measure as an aside, looking at WAR, "We-should-have-signed" Carlos Lee has been the single worst player in baseball, amongst guys who qualify for the batting title. factoring salary, he's been worth -$22M to Houston this season
  21. if there's a Packer fan, i'd try trading Grant for a better #2 WR at least one of Best/Foster is likely better, anyway
  22. is he that far off? http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=ss&stats=fld&lg=al&qual=1200&type=1&season=2010&month=11
  23. it belongs in the top-1 of the entire league for the past three years his slider is third overall in total pitch value, behind only Ervin Santana and Dempster, both of whom have thrown it at a much lower efficiency
  24. Opinions on Colvin are all over the board. His offensive skills are quite likely being underrated by the crowd that has already written him off as nothing but a funamentally flawed career 4th OF. what are his offensive skills, though? specifically, what does he do that's reliably repeatable? i'd argue that the list is pretty much limited to only bad things
