  1. I would definitely expect a fair amount of spending given the payroll coming off the books and the additional revenue at Wrigley from the signage (although some of that would go towards paying off the renovations). Probably the more important thing is that Baez/Bryant/Soler should all be playing in the bigs and that starts your window to assemble a really good team (2015-2021). You've got to have the pieces in place around them to compete if those guys do well in their first year.
  2. Not sure why Schierholtz even swung at any of those pitches.... he must have been possessed by Dusty on that at-bat. Edit: Baker and Castro came through!
  3. I'm assuming they're going to do what they did with Arrieta/Straily and put him in AAA. Yeah, I presume he needs to get stretched out anyway since he's been mad about pitching out of the bullpen (hence the trade).
  4. I'm not sure how this is a reason. If you want to bring Javier Baez up, there's precisely two position players on the roster that are of a stature that makes them even worth considering: Castro and Rizzo. Everyone else can get in line and be filled in around whatever you want to do with Baez. There's like six position players on the roster right now that could be sent away at any moment. If Baez stays down, it won't be because there isn't "room" for him. That's weird. I think the only consideration is you want to get Bonifacio at-bats somewhere since he should have a little trade value. But in theory he, Baez, and Alcantara could all play at the same time for a while.
  5. Rizzo's going to need to hit a couple more HRs
  6. Donaldson would have been ruined by our crappy Hendry-era minor league coaches and been a bust anyway.
  7. Bryant base-clogging walk.
  8. Bryant up with bases full of 'Mericans.... pops up to shallow RF. Baez allegedly going to be in the game shortly.
  9. K for Bryant, what a bust
  10. I watched about an inning and he said "rocket shot" for one of the Braves' hits.
  11. should be 2 WAR for Alcantara now
  12. Braves fans whining since they were voting more on Twitter for Upton, but that was a dumb place to vote in the first place since it's much faster to vote on MLB.com
  13. Okay, probably need to score runs now if we're going to win.
  14. Reds announcers say all the Cubs' stud prospects are "in Single A, maybe just got promoted to Double A a few weeks ago". Although they are smart enough to say they think the Cubs won't trade Castro since he's a good player, only 24 and under a really good contract.
  15. FB does seem to play faster than 90 mph with his delivery. He hasn't had the control yet to really see his other stuff but it seems serviceable. Probably someone who's going to give up a few hard hits every game.
  16. i think it shows how confident they are in their abilities to thatch together a starting staff, turn them over to Bosio and then go to sleep. But we're going to need aces if we have any desire to make a run in the playoffs. the good news is that we look like we have one already. We have the ample prospect depth to trade for one or two whenever we need to at this point. I do think we'll sign one of the bigger name FA pitchers this offseason.
  17. Passan confirms we do get a PTBNL as well in the trade
  18. Isn't Russell a really good SS? (Defensively obviously) You thinking one at each of 2B, SS, and 3B? Sounds like an elite defensive infield to me if you have 3 players who can play SS at 3B/SS/2B.
  19. Isn't Russell still in AA? He'd go to TN first I'd think.
  20. His value's going to be higher after we win a WS, plus I'm sure he's getting paid pretty well already.
  21. http://www.indystar.com/story/sports/college/indiana/2014/06/27/kyle-schwarber-kane-county-cougars-chicago-cubs-top-prospects/11452037/ Schwarber article today from the Indianapolis Star
  22. 7 homers and 6 K's for Schwarber. I don't expect him to be quite the monster Bryant is in the upper levels, but the low k rate will be a nice change. the low k rate is pretty unheard of with that kind of power. i don't know how he's doing it. He's just legit really strong so he doesn't have to have a huge swing like Baez & Bryant do to generate that type of power. Plus he's got a really mature hitting approach so he won't be taking home run hacks in a 0-2 count.
