  1. The thing about the leagues is they get harder as you move up. While the pitchers are more advanced, they're not necessarily better. As discussed at one point during Javy's abysmal start, A-AA aren't so much trying to fool hitters as they are trying to burn them. In AAA, you're going to see some of these only more advanced. However, for every one of those, you're going to see 3-4 junk ballers who are unlike what they're used to. They're trying to trick these cocky young prospects into chasing seemingly tantalizing garbage that big league hitters will let fall well out of the strike zone. Now keep in mind, many of these junk ballers had some level of big league success, which they achieved by fooling big league hitters. Until, of course, big league hitters figured them out and sent them packing. It should go without saying that prospects are going to take longer to adjust than big league hitters. The younger the hitter, the less exposure they've had to this. So while they may have been able to handle some of the top pitching prospects, guys like Justin Germano and Rodrigo Lopez at first, may as well be Greg Maddux. I think that's a bigger issue for players like Baez who joined the system outside of HS. College players like Bryant & Schwarber see a lot of college pitchers throwing garbage pitches.
  2. My wishlist for 2015 would be: - Bigger-fish SP (if Shark is traded) - Bounceback SP candidate to replace Hammel - Veteran bat who can be a FT starter at one of the OF spots or C.
  3. Indiana's baseball coach talks about the amount of scouting the Cubs did on Schwarber And this is pretty awesome:
  4. Low 90s, slider, change. Change is way behind the first two. http://www.baseballamerica.com/college/game-report-marylands-jake-stinnett/ This says he worked between 92-94 mph in a game in April, with a few hitting 95 mph (and one 97)
  5. http://scoop.hoosiershq.com/2014/06/schwarber-ecstatic-after-selection/ Schwarber quotes here:
  6. Here's the video of McLeod talking about Schwarber. McLeod & Theo actually met with Schwarber for 30-45 minutes when the Indiana baseball team was in Arizona in February.
  7. I seriously don't think many of the draft "gurus" even watched Schwarber play outside of the CWS last year (when he was dinged up pretty badly).
  8. http://scoop.hoosiershq.com/2014/06/live-chat-transcript-27/#more-30318 I asked the beat writers from the Bloomington Herald-Times earlier today about Schwarber. They're pretty positive about what they've heard from scouts about him 1) having a chance to play catcher and stick in the MLB, and 2) being able to play LF if needed. Needless to say, I'm really excited about the pick as an IU fan/alum. He's got a fantastic approach, big power, great character, etc. I think he's a slam dunk to be at least a productive major leaguer.
  9. \:D/ :yahoo: :clapping: Really excited. I think it's a slam dunk that he'll be a productive big leaguer (again, full disclosure, I'm an IU alum & lifelong IU fan).
  10. Andy can go [expletive] his own face lol, he's a huge Cardinals fan, so that jab at the Cubs doesn't surprise me.
  11. I asked the sportswriters at the Bloomington Herald-Times who have watched a bunch of IU baseball games (local paper in town) about Schwarber.
  12. First off, he is way more athletic than Vogelbach. He has the best left handed power in the draft and is the best college power bat in the draft period. He has an advanced approach and good hit tool. What turned me on him as hearing that he may have a slim chance to stick behind the plate, but should be okay in LF (though never great) through his prime years. Yeah, again I'm biased as an Indiana grad but I think the floor for Schwarber is he's an avg cost-controlled LF who can be a serviceable emergency 3rd catcher. If he sticks at C he could be an all-star there with his bat. He's said his favorite player is Joey Vottoand he's got the same type of approach at the plate.... really the prototypical approach Theo/Hoyer like to look for in guys. Very good character and a leader. Indiana's baseball program was a joke before he came here and he's been a huge part of that turnaround. Given his experience in Bloomington with that being a huge college party town, I don't think he's going to freak out at the Lakeview bar scene. I think those intangibles are what may push him above some of the other college bats we're looking at.
  13. It's not like the Cubs have let the inaccuracy of the song's other lyrics get in the way... About projecting supreme confidence in the cubs ability to win on that particular day and having the power and speed to be the best team in the national league? Not to mention that the correlation between speed and success has not been proven out. Maybe if they changed it to OBP or something. :) "They got the slugging and the OBP... to be the best in the major leagues." Also for a post-victory song it shouldn't be talking about how the "Cubs are gonna win today!", since that already happened.
  14. He's got the arm for it. Could play LF for sure I think. Not sure why everyone thinks he can't play catcher in the big leagues, but I'm an Indiana alum. He's been much better throwing out runners this year. He was also 2nd team All-Ohio as a LB in HS in Div 1 (Ohio's biggest division), so I'm not sure why the scouts don't think he's athletic.
  15. They'd just need a 2nd overflow channel for scenarios like that. The Big Ten Network sometimes has 5-6 different feeds running at once during FB season.
  16. Sammy should be the figurehead leader of the Dominican Academy who sails up on his yacht with the check from PTR to try and close the IFA signings.
  17. The outfield signage & jumbrotrons are relatively cheap to buy/install compared to the rest of the renovations, so you'd get nearly immediate positive revenues for those. Stuff like the gift shop & hotel would take more years to pay off. Basically if you didn't have the outfield signage the City of Chicago would have to kick in some money to make the whole thing feasible.
  18. I can't believe he's been at AA for so long, I don't understand. I'd love to see him jump AAA and go to the majors. His approach isn't going to get exploited by veteran minor leaguers. I'm guessing he needs time at AAA to learn pitch framing or some other invented metric of the week.
  19. It should be Renteria, Castro, and Rizzo all riding in the streetsweeper and Theo & Tom Ricketts (Ricketts' head pasted on the Monopoly Man's body showing empty pockets) chasing after them yelling at them for costing us our protected draft pick.
  20. FS1 announcers said it was the first ever 6-pitcher shutout by the Cubs in a 9 inning game.
  21. It was hilarious on the FS1 broadcast since those guys are acting like Cardinals homers. The color commentator was like "Choate's nasty, any team would want him as a left-handed specialist. He's got a delivery where the ball comes from behind his back and left-handers can't possibly pick it up" (Rizzo crushes HR off the 1st pitch).
  22. I'm disappointed we lost yesterday because I was thinking of ideas on how to photoshop Renteria into the Cubs Streetsweeper pic.
  23. The Ricketts buying the team (2010 = their 1st season as owners).
  24. I think Kerry Wood doesn't like Sosa (wasn't he the one who smashed Sammy's boombox?)
