  1. It needs to be a picture of Ricky Renteria talking to Jackson instead of a picture of Jackson alone. In the NES Mike Tyson's Punch-Out, the quotes were from Doc Lewis pumping up Little Mac. I'd go with "Dance like a fly, bite like a mosquito!" for the quote, personally.
  2. So which outfield spot does Wood play on days when he doesn't pitch?
  3. Station rebranding I guess... their 1st original series premieres tonight.
  4. Looking at the stats: - Rizzo, Bonifacio, Castro have been good - Valbuena has great OBP but no slugging, needs more steroids - Mike Olt has serviceable numbers due to slugging alone. - Junior Lake has decent numbers if he were starting in CF - Outfield is complete trash other than that (the other guys are playing at sub-replacement player level), Barney sucks, Castillo off to slow start. Pitching has been pretty much league average overall. Hammel/Wood/Shark have been pretty great. Jackson has been trash along with Villanueva, Schlittler, and Veras.
  5. Will be interesting to see how we manage the platoon splits today. Seems like lefties have slightly better numbers against Pineda, although it's not a huge difference. Not sure how Tanaka's #s are (although I'm sure the FO knows).
  6. I'd say this is already a respectable team considering how many games we've been in. - We blew out the Phillies and beat the Cards by 3 runs - We beat Pittsburgh twice, once by 2 runs and once by 1 run - We lost to Pittsburgh by 1 run twice in extra innings, and then to Pittsburgh twice again by 1 run - We lost to the Phillies by 2 runs and the Cardinals by 2 runs - We got blown out in 2 games by the Phillies and Cards Basically we're past the "lose big" stage of the rebuild and onto the "lose close games" stage. Once Baez/Bryant come up and we make some moves to get a couple pitchers we should be into the "win close games" stage by 2015.
  7. dat Olt OBP, dat Castillo hit with RISP
  8. This season we battle back and lose late.
  9. *SIGH* Well if he's that good of a manager that we'd be 7-3 if not for some untimely sacrifice bunting and bad pitch framing by Castillo I'd say he's doing a great job.
  10. Didn't they play close to .500 ball for a really long stretch between the Rizzo call up and the trades in 2012? From April 25 to July 28 last year, they were 42-41. They had a 19-10 stretch in July of 2012 If I remember correctly, Castro/Rizzo were hitting during that stretch like they have been the last few games.
  11. if that was a correct interpretation of that rule, that rule is horrible According to the rule, you can't block the plate before you have the baseball.
  12. If I were in charge I'd say sign the contract now or: 1) You go to the bullpen and pitch as a LOOGY 2) You get sent to Iowa with Dusty Baker as your pitching coach 3) In 2 years Cubs offer you a 1 year deal for whatever the amount is so that there's a draft pick forfeited when Shark signs somewhere else as a free agent.
  13. There's going to be players like that that they miss on (Cespedes and Ryu) no matter how much money the Cubs spend and how good their front office is. You're always going to be able to have some players where you say "man this money for player X would have been better spent on player Y, hindsight being 20/20".
  14. Bonafacio/Kalish should be penciled in at the top of the order against righties for a while, IMHO.
  15. We really need to buy the rooftops and put wind shields/wind machines on them.
  16. WGN's blurry cameras may save us there.
  17. Not sure how we can get 10 hits and get shut out. I guess the good news is Castro had 3 hits and Shark put up a QS.
  18. Yeah 2003 against the Braves is the only playoff series we've won since 1908. There was no NLCS in the other World Series appearances. 1984, 1989, 1998, 2007, and 2008 we all lost in the first round.
  19. Guess they're worried about him noodle arming a throw with that sore shoulder.
  20. I wonder if they were just trying to rush through the inning. Cuz surely there must be an explanation for a Bonafacio out! Might be, my guess is play will be suspended in 30 minutes looking at the radar.
  21. Mike Olt is trending on twitter now, lol http://i.imgur.com/Eq5XUrO.png
  22. Encouraging for me. Our starters and bullpen have largely pitched very well, and some of these guys have to hit eventually, right? The difference in these 2 games even making it to extras was the lack of maybe 2 hits with RISP. Another 0-fer from Castro will start to get me uneasy though. It's both encouraging that we've played well (better than the Pirates for sure) and soul-crushing to lose in a frustrating way. But then again it doesn't really matter since it just means a better draft pick in 2015.
  23. might as well forfeit now, we let the Pirates score a run.
