  1. Now we're in "We would have won this game if Bryant would have been up" territory!
  2. Mike OLT in for the hero at-bat
  3. Short bench with La Stella/Olt both hurt.
  4. Maddon likes what the data says for Strop v.s. Adams.
  5. Especially considering that extra game will be against the Cardinals, it is kinda worth it, I suppose. It really is a big benefit to play that game later considering our team should get better the longer the season goes. July/September? Bryant and Russell should both be up by then. We may have made a deadline trade.
  6. Did some people walk all the way to the bleachers to go to the bathroom before? That's the only thing that makes any sense, other than people pregaming all day.
  7. Can someone send that to the Cubs Front Office so we can nail that dude on it next time he pitches again us?
  8. can't wait until we have players like Bryant & Schwarber up who are strong enough to hit HRs in this crappy wind
  9. Think you pull Lester after this inning and then pinch-hit in catcher & pitcher's spots unless this is a really quick inning.
  10. This is pretty much the worst announce booth ever.
  11. I don't think it's a huge deal to start Ross considering we're carrying 3 catchers and can pinch hit for him, plus he's had a good spring with the bat.
  12. i have no idea what you're asking Like the entire jumbotron is the screen. For example the White Sox have their screen at center, and then a [expletive] ton of framing around it: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3207/2745324749_3010aacfcf.jpg The "framing" for ours appears to be artificial borders projected on the screen. Basically all the modern jumbotrons from the last ten years are like that. Companies pay more money for ads on the full jumbotron with video and sound than a static ad next to the screen. The screens easily pay for themselves.
  13. Wonder if Russell passes up Baez at this point.
  14. :( I read the Keri Rays book and while not super-great, it definitely gave me some insight into what the Rays did and what Maddon is doing here. Part of the voodoo magic as to why their pitchers didn't get hurt much is they hired a Pitch F/X guru (Josh Kalk) who uses that to study changes in release points Also look for Maddon to do some managing that's different from "the book", and the meatball reporters will probably get pissed if it doesn't work.
  15. This infield lineup is crazy-good defensively.
  16. Just being a registered Republican doesn't mean he subscribes to their entire political platform, thankfully. He's rich enough that he has economic reasons to vote that way.
  17. Article in ESPN the Magazine about Lucroy's voodoo pitch framing has a segment about about Montero and 4 other Cubs catchers doing pitch-framing drills in Spring Training while Maddon watches them. They have pitching machines setup to shoot baseballs at the edge of the zone. Theo mentions that maybe they can reverse engineer-it.
  18. Isn't the whole Bryant thing a false dilemma? You can both start Bryant April 5th AND get your 7th year of control. He just needs to be optioned to the minors for a total of 21 days in any one of the next 5 years. Get the days in one year when the Cubs are out of the playoff hunt in August. Problem solved. There's no reason to hurt your team at the start of the year just to get the control. We will have many options later in the contract to get that year. And there's a good chance at some point Bryant will need work in Iowa to get out of a hitting slump, work on D, or to change positions.
  19. He would. I guess the good news is he looks ready to be called up if Bryant can't handle 3B or Baez implodes at SS, or if there's a fluke injury to Bryant/Baez/Castro at some point.
  20. Well at least we tied in the Oakland game :(
