  1. This makes a lot of sense for the Reds. They can probably get Patterson straightened out (and surely he'll listen to Ken Griffey, Jr.). Mitre immediately steps in to their rotation and gives them the sinker-baller they need. Hill probably starts for the Reds right away as well. If they can pick up another arm to go with Harang (who's okay), they'd have a pretty decent rotation on paper. We don't have room for any of those guys in the short term (Rusch is a good 6th starter), and while Hill may turn out to be an ace, we don't have room for him until 2007 as a starter.
  2. Just an isolated chance of storms here (30%) at work about 40 minutes west of Cincy. They'll get the games in.
  3. We should have scored a couple runs today, but Zach Duke is a very good young pitcher and will keep giving teams fits if his minor league numbers are any indication. Tommorrow's game is key. I know we'd love to go on a 15-game winning streak but that's not likely to happen. We need to go about .650 or better the rest of the way to have a good shot at the Wild Card, or win about 2 out of 3.
  4. Argh, that would have been a hit if Nefi would have hustled all the way.
  5. At least we don't have any one-pitch at-bats so far. We need to get this kid's pitch count up and get him out of there. This Duke is the real deal.
  6. I was going to post about how it looked like Maddux had really good control today so far.
  7. I think we'll probably get an arm for the pen. I don't see us getting an OF unless it's someone at a Huff/Dunn level who will be a Cub beyond this season.
  8. This Duke kid was pretty good in AAA for Indianapolis, so I'm worried about this game. Although, not nearly as good as his current ERA so he's due to give up some runs. Still, we need the Good Maddux to show up today.
  9. Let me just say, Mark Cuban is a *big* sports stats guy. He's had Jeff Sagarin, who does statistics for USA Today and others to create several stat models. They're basically trying to emulate the ideas behind Moneyball in a NBA setting. http://www.washingtontimes.com/sports/20040413-121657-1462r.htm Cuban wrote an article on his blog talking about trying to develop a Moneyball-style system for the NBA http://www.blogmaverick.com/entry/5292100442243966/ I think it's safe to assume he'd be a sabermetrics owner from the article, which would result in much smarter spending than what the Tribune currently does.
