  1. Well, this is shaping up to be the least watched World Series ever, ratings-wise. I can guarantee you that wouldn't be the case if the Cubs were in it. We need management that is as smart as the Tribune's marketers in the 80s. Dang, they did a wonderful job.
  2. Go there and wear Cubs stuff and try and Bartman someone and heckle both teams.
  3. It's sad because in most situations, getting your butt kicked by your rivals in the standings would result in people getting canned.
  4. It's a pretty sad year for teams to root for. In order of worst to best... Tier One: Cardinals White Sox Tier Two: Astros Yankees Tier Three: Braves Tier Four: Red Sox (you just won last year!) Angels (you just won in 2002!) Tier Five: Padres (doomed to lose, only question is whether it's in 3 or 4 games)
  5. Nah, we need Dusty running another team, preferably the Cards into the ground. We need to keep his rep up.
  6. w00t! *watches all the Astros and Cards fans sweat*
  7. I knew the Redwalls were good for some mojo. 8) It's freaky how much they sound like the Beatles.
  8. Gotta love how this team comes back from the dead to possibly tease us.
  9. I think you can easily get 10 games out of just reducing the amount of boneheaded plays that cost games to a reasonable level, moving Hawkins to setup, and not hitting Patterson/Nefi 1-2. Heck, assuming Hawkins doesn't have his slump and he takes the setup spot over the misfit crew of setup men we had before Wood/Williamson in the past month, you can get pretty close to 10 games right there alone.
  10. We need coaches who can be tough on the players and minimize mistakes and teach/practice/drill fundamentally sound baseball. There's no excuse for a guy making hundreds of thousands of dollars a year (at the very least) not being able to lay down a good bunt 95% of the time, for example, or sliding head-first into 1st base when the guy is going for a forceout. If we had a manager who'd drill that into people (and he doesn't necessarily need to be a discipline freak to do this), we'd be in the race still. Anyone who doesn't buy into that needs to get shipped off somewhere. A lot of the Cubs "choking" is just due to bad fundamental baseball and playing stupid. We need to quit letting stupid errors beat us. A big part of the difference between the Cubs and other teams is the Cubs play stupid baseball and the teams like the Braves and Cardinals play very sound baseball.
  11. I won't even mention that we got rid of K-Gonz for Nomar and Murton and that Nefi Perez, as much as people bash him, is about 10x the hitter K-Gonz is.
  12. Dusty needs to be fired, the Reds are about ready to pass us
  13. NOMAH on deck... all hope is not lost!
  14. Lee's overdue for a HR, so we've got a shot.
  15. Big Choi knocks in the 1st RBI in a 2-run (and hopefully ongoing inning) for the Dodgers against those evil Fish from Florida. Now 4-3.
  16. Buckos up 6-1 in the top of the 4th. Nationals/Mets 0-0 in the 5th Stros/Brew Cru 0-0 after the 1st inning.
  17. Nefi with TWO WALKS IN ONE GAME
  18. It can't be proven (since MLB doesn't test for it), and I bet a lot of other players are on it, but I'm sure Clemens is on HGH. It's not natural for someone to pitch this well at Clemens' age. I don't blame him since they don't test for it.
  19. 5 losses out, we were 6 losses out at the beginning of the day from Astros/Nationals/Phils. Still will be 5.5 behind Philly since they won and lost today (they've played one more game than we have to this point).
  20. Zach Duke comes through with 7-innings of 2-hit ball for the Pirates, Mets go down 5-0, pulling the Cubs a half game closer to the Mets.
  21. After August 28th, the Phils' schedule is absolutely brutal. If they tough it out, they'll deserve it. @Mets, @Nationals, Astros, Marlins, Braves (4-games), @Marlins, @Braves, @Reds (okay, this is the one break), Mets, @Nationals
  22. All the NL East teams have brutal schedules, playing each other, the Braves (who we really need to steamroll everyone in their division), and STL/Houston/Us/BrewCrew pretty much exclusively the rest of the way once September starts. Hopefully we can be within a couple games of the Astros by the time we start our stretch of 7 with them in 10 games. First let's get to .500.
  23. Not really. He looks the same as he did before. Check your tv. He's 10 pounds lighter than April. Numerous media people in Chicago have noticed the same thing. Kinda hard to lift weights with a groin that's shot. It'd be one thing if he lost 20 or 30 pounds but that's pretty normal especially when you're recovering from an injury that makes it tough to lift. I think a lot of players have used different things over the past 5-6 years and I don't think Nomar will ever put up numbers like he did in 99 or 00, but he's still a very good SS even if he turns into just a .300, .850 OPS, 25 HR hitter instead of .350, near-1.000 OPS, 35 HR hitter.
