  1. Cubs are 1-0 over the last two years on days Phil Mickelson wins a major 146-140 when he doesn't Cubs went on 10-3 streak starting the day Mickelson won the Masters in 2004. Red Sox also won the day Phil won the Masters, sparking a 12-3 run.
  2. The hope is, with Nomar, Lawton, Patterson, Williamson, and Wood, that this isn't the same team we've seen all year.
  3. Well, there's a glimmer of hope after this series. Gotta take 2 out of 3 in Houston though at least... a sweep would be nice. Do that and we're back in the hunt.
  4. Yeah, he shoulda let Patterson hit there after the wild pitch. Oh well.
  5. Wood hasn't pitched this well in 2 years.
  6. Nomar and Patterson starting to heat up... could be enough to make things interesting.
  7. We wouldn't be replacing a 4th or 5th starter though. If this team gets anywhere next year, it'll be with Wood, Prior, and Z healthy and at the top of the starting rotation.
  8. Wood PWNs him with 3 pitches.
  9. This is such short sighted managing with a team out of the running. Oh, it's pretty likely we're out of it, but you can't fold up the tent completely yet. Stranger things have happened. If we'd run off a big winning streak we'd be right back in it.
  10. Macias now hitting over .300
  11. It'd be incredibly stupid to try to prevent Maddux's option from vesting or DFAing him. Hopefully he has enough pride to realize he doesn't have it anymore or he starts taking whatever Clemens is taking (HGH?) and gets his stuff back.
  12. Considering our track record with position players, I definitely wouldn't start Cedeno and Fontenot next year. There is no way possible that Cedeno plays better than a healthy Nomar. Murton should get a shot but he doesn't have the power numbers you need in a corner OF (plus he seems to be falling back to earth). Pie needs to stay in the minors until he learns how to take a walk, otherwise he'll be Corey Patterson with some more power. Heck, according to this board, Choi, Dubois, and Bobby Hill were "can't miss" prospects. Starting 3-4 farm system players would be throwing away 2006. This team has enough trouble scoring runs as it is, and with Lee likely regressing from his career year it would be a long season since some of you want to start an OF of Murton/Pie/Patterson and Cedeno/Fontenot in the IF.
  13. Yeah an overpriced starter would have really helped when we can't score any runs and the bullpen can hold leads when we do. If there was anyone out there worth a crap at a reasonable price, they would have been snatched up by many other teams. He'll be better for the experience and hopefully can come back with another pitch or two.
  14. This is flat-out embarassing... this team has no pride. We'll be behind the Reds in the standings by the end of the week.
  15. Think outside the box and hire the best collegiate coach you can find. http://www.texassports.com/index.phps=&change_well_id=2&url_article_id=159 Just for an example. Give me someone with a high winning percentage, developed a lot of MLB players, and won a handful of College World Series over a MLB retread or taking a chance on someone's bench coach anyday. Get a guy who knows how to manage his players and develop the young kids once they come up.
  16. So, I'm guessing we're just going to not spend all the money we're paying Sosa, Burnitz, Remlinger, Borowski, Nomar, next year?
  17. *Now* Dusty comes to the mound...
  18. Really bad managing by Dusty to not send someone out there to kill time to try to keep the wheels from falling off. This team is playing like a bunch of little-leaguers tonight.
  19. Hill's going to get murdered any day he doesn't have that curve working. :x
  20. Would have been a very easy double play, even if Burnitz would go in as hard as he can.
  21. Yep, it's hot as hell and considering we have a couple arms coming up tommorrow we can afford to tax the pen a bit today.
  22. Playing Nomar 6-7 innings the first couple games isn't a problem. If Neifi is starting more than once a week once Nomar is back up to speed, it'll be a joke. I agree that we need to find a way to get Aram and Lee some days off, but it's pretty hard to do that without throwing a forfeit lineup out there (and we can't afford to lose any more games with all the close ones we've blown).
  23. I think only one of the starters will be a prospect, if that. We're not going to start 4 ?s in the field with the kind of money the Tribune can and should spend on the team. Considering I think Nomar takes a pay cut and stays our SS, there's not much room for prospects to start. Probably just one OF, maybe 2B depending on how things shake out. I don't think Pie will jump to being a big-league starter until 07.
  24. Wood ought to be able to have no problem with Single-A hitters. His stuff has always been ridiclous, it's just that he gets wild and gets hurt frequently. When he's on, he's absolutely unhittable.
