  1. Another one of the radio greats has passed away. When Vin Skully goes, that will be the end. Everyone after Carey, Jack Buck, Kallas and Skully are hacks. Dude, that's uncool.
  2. It does look very different on TV. My guess is that they'll have a lot better ballpark than their Missouri neighbors in St. Louis after it's all said and done. But the Royal got almost every upgrade for free as the county taxpayers are footing most of the bill. The Cardinals paid for most of Busch III all on their own. That's why Busch III feels second rate. You have to realize that Wrigley is not the norm with it's location. We're very lucky. Most modern ballparks are built to reflect that we are a car centered nation and are surrounded by parking lots. Kaufmann is in the middle of a huge parking lot and there's nothing to do pre/post game when it comes to bars. That being said people in Kansas City really know how to tailgate. While not as big as football: Royals games on Friday to Sunday will have some pretty good tailgating going on. And if you ever can, get to Arrowhead for a Chiefs game. Their pre-game tailgating is epic. But I will warn you that Chiefs fans will be downright nasty to people wearing visiting colors: even if it's different than the visiting team. I wore a Bears ballcap to a Chiefs/Buffalo Bills game and was challenged to two fights along with being bumped into and yelled at.
  3. I still can't believe the Blues went from dead last in February to a number 6 playoff seed. I also think the Redwings loose in the first round: they really haven't looked very good the last few weeks.
  4. [imb]east coast bias[/imb] Didn't ESPN just open a LA bureau and studios in an effort to loose some of the east coast bias?
  5. literally no one has said that. No, but I was waiting for it. Besides, after Josh Hancock it's not much of a leap to assume the worst about a pitcher out partying.
  6. I was hoping the XM/Sirius merger meant they'd start carrying both teams broadcast (instead of just the home team.) I was hoping that the XM/Sirius merger meant that I'd actually get to listen to games on Sirius. Blame MLB. Apparently they are wanting some big-time dough to allow Sirius people to get baseball. Some people are claiming MLB wants like 3 times as much money.

  8. Most Chicagoans are stubborn to the idea of even attending a hockey game. It's going to take a long time to repair the damage old man Wurtz did to the club. Plus there are plenty of people who are still freaked out at the thought of coming to an event at the United Center. Considering the Hawks lead the league in attendance, I don't think it's taken a long time at all to repair the damage that Wirtz did to the Hawks. Hockey just isn't mainstream, so the casual fan in Chicago really won't feel all that attached to it. If you're trying to get friends into hockey, the video game method usually works. I got about four guys into following the Hawks this year after playing NHL 09 with them, so that probably works the best. Hockey's the best game to see in person as well, so taking them to a game would be a success too. I was thinking more about extending the hockey fanbase to the more casual/non rabid sports fans: not just the puck heads. I am glad to see the United Center full again. But we should be leading the league in attendance since it's like the 2nd or 3rd largest arena in the league.
  9. Wrong! He casts the tie-breaking vote in the Senate!! Is there a tie in the Senate that needs broken right now?
  10. Good. I hope they go 62-100 with their monster payroll and new stadium.
  11. Is Obama still in Europe? If he is, then why shouldn't Biden mess around and catch some baseball while the boss is out of town?
  12. I don't know. Isn't Kauffman's renovation almost a total gut rehab that will end up costing more than Busch Stadium III? EDIT: almost. Kauffman's renovations will cost around $265 million while a whole new cheaply built Busch stadium cost around $300 million. My guess is that after a couple of years the Red Sox will get a bad case of stadium envy and build a new place. And Kauffman doesn't even have a softball field next door. Oh yes it does. Unless you're saying they play softball at Arrowhead, then no.
  13. Cubs will win the division pretty easily: Cards might make a wild-card run.
  14. Take the next day off from work. Then again I'm getting older and Opening Day is no longer a day long drunkfest for me.

  16. My fear is that Mayor Daley will push the Cubs out to the suburbs into the middle of some huge parking lot.

  18. ????????????????????????????????? I know it's a pre-season game: but it seams a bit out of the way. Why didn't they just put another east coast team there?
  19. I hate attitudes like that. I think the truth is Holt doesn't want to play in the cold, and he doesn't want to play on grass. Both will tend to slow him down and make him look older. I'll bet he's willing to take a significantly less attractive situation to play inside, on turf. We'll see if it falls that way. Holt is a Hall of Famer, but his best days are way behind him. While I dig Lovie: no more Rams retreads please. Holt should just go straight to TV. I've been impressed with his Draft Day analysis and work. He can join Marshall Faulk on the NFL Channel.
  20. I missed it. How did the Cubs end up playing this game.
  21. Yeah, exactly. It's a real small section pressed up against the LF foul pole. It's a pretty nice view and you can actually see pretty much the entire field, which isn't the case for a few seats in the ballpark. The family area is one of the better places to sit (from a visibility point) Plus it's a nice break to deal with families instead of a bunch of twentysomething Trixies and Chads who are at the game just to socialize, power drink and text the entire time.
  22. http://store.chicagobears.com/store/item.asp?store_item_color_id=3111&item_id=3430 * THIS IS ITEM WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR SHIPMENT WITHIN 5 BUSINESS DAYS He's wanting to find a retail store anywhere in Chicago that will have one.
  23. I just got back from Starbucks with a couple people from work. One of the guys is trying to find out where he can get a Bears Cutler jersey so he can wear it to the Cubs/Brewers game in Milwaukee next Friday so he can mess with the Packers fans.
  24. I wonder if that's slightly skewed by the 3 NFL North teams playing an 0-16 Detroit team twice. Look at Arizona last year. They played in a horrible division and see where they ended up.
  25. I'm not saying I'm not pleased by this move. I just think we need to step back and be cautious. Sorry for not chugging the Kool Aid by the gallon. Plus his little temper tantrum/drama in Denver makes me wonder if he'll pull that cr*p here.
