  1. still a questionable OL, crappy receivers, and an aging defense. Bingo. Some people are acting like Cutler is Flutie, Montana, Young, McMahon, Manning and Brady all rolled into one. It's just hard for me to get excited over Cutler since the Bears have had like 30 QBs since I started watching as a little kid in the 70's. Plus I'm not excited about Pace either. He was great 8 to 10 years ago, but now he's getting pretty old in a position that has a very short shelf life.
  2. Why am I not excited about this?
  3. Hawks/Blues games are always a good time. I remember when they used to be really rough and tumble back in the Norris division days with games at Chicago Stadium and St. Louis Arena. (Both on and off the ice.) Years ago the Hawks and Blues used to do a home/home series the week after Christmas. So one time my buddies and I made the road trip down to St. Louis right after the game here in Chicago. Sometime during the second period a fight broke out not far from the ice between some Blackhawks and Blues fans. The cops escorted them out; but then after they left the guys girlfriends started fighting. Around the same time they stopped play on the ice and went into a faceoff. But the faceoff was held up for about a minute as the players and referees watched the big catfight in the stands. I remember Denis Savard, Brett Hull and Don Koharski all standing together on the ice with biggest grins on their faces. (Man I miss the old Norris division games. I wish the NHL would have contracted after the lockout so we could go back to playing Detroit, St. Louis and Toronto a lot more.)
  4. I'm concerned about this game because the Blues appear to be the pioneers of figuring out how to beat the Hawks this year. A tenacious 2-1-2 forecheck. That led to the first goal last night because our (supposedly) best defenseman couldn't handle the pressure. Other teams, notably in the last two games, have caught on and are having the same success. The only reason the Blues weren't blowing out the Hawks earlier in the year was because they couldn't bury the biscuit. They aren't having that problem right now. And needless to say, fellas better keep their heads up when #74 is on the ice. St. Louis is playing really well right now. The Hawks need to jump out to a 2-0 lead in this game. If they fall behind early, the way things are going, it'll be over. #74 = Oshie, right? Yes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PIIpCbE1VCc http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mwDgk4ooXIc Haha, Rick Nash. I love how this Oshie kid (who under 6 foot tall) hits Nash who's like 6'4" and the Columbus broadcasters get all bent out of shape about the hit. Hey guys: it was a clean hit and Nash is like 5 inches taller and 25 pounds heavier. STFU
  5. Where was this Mizzou team at the IL/MU game in St. Louis back in December? I'm still ticked I wasted my money going down there to watch a boring game that Illinois had sewn up in the first 5 minutes.
  6. How much does he drink though? You don't have to be drunk to be over the legal limit. If he's going out and getting plastered every single night, sure, he's probably got a drinking problem. But if he's having a few beers per night, might be over the legal limit and doesn't want to risk a DUI, I don't think that's a drinking problem. Actually being responsible enough to not put yourself in a position where you are going to drink and drive suggests the opposite of a drinking problem. Seems almost commendable. Most drunks would likely continue driving regardless. They drive better with a few in 'em. Difference being between what you're talking about and what is going on here is that the driver is assigned to him by the university at their request from what I understand. This wasn't Billy's idea, it was something the university decided would be a good idea to keep everybody out of hot water. And it's just another contributing factor to what dew is talking about. I've heard exactly what he said, he just didn't play well with others when it came to fitting in to the Kentucky culture. And trust me, I can understand how he feels based on what I have to deal with because my company's corporate office is in Kentucky. It's just a little bit of a different culture if you're not from there and you don't quite get treated the same or trusted quite as much as those who aren't outsiders. I lived in Lexington for about 9 months. Rough crowd if you're not from there and don't totally accept the culture 100%. (Kentucky basketball and horse racing) I got more cr*p for wearing a Cubs hat there than anywhere else. Kentucky is about the worst place to try and make that "good ol boy from the great state of Texas" schtick fly.
  7. I don't know how many times I've turned on the TV to watch a Cubs road game against the Marlins, and it's in a rain delay. lot's of rain delays in Houston? Phoenix? Think outside the box Have you ever been to Florida in the summer? They'll seriously go 3 weeks in a row with daily late afternoon/early evening thundershowers. I want to say it was last year or 2007: but there was a 3 game trip the Cubs made to Miami and every single game was rain delayed.
  8. I don't know how many times I've turned on the TV to watch a Cubs road game against the Marlins, and it's in a rain delay.
  9. The Texas Rangers did the same thing during the period where President Bush (Dabya) was one of the owners.
  10. I just hope that if/when a new Wrigley Field is built, it's not some $1 billion or more* overdone palace to the rich. The Cardinals showed that you can build a perfectly decent modern ballpark for $350 million. Yeah, Busch III has issues. But new Yankee Stadium already has some negatives already called out before opening. -Batters eye restaurant blocks some bleacher seats view -posts block views -Monument Park is under the stands. *(In today's money.)
  11. At least the city of St. Louis stood tall and didn't agree to cover Cordish's financing. Kansas City is going to get hosed for millions more dollars than they already threw into the Power and Light District. Cordish can't cover the debt payment, but KC is stuck footing the bill. Plus the P&L District is already faltering as some places have closed and other slots left open. They need badly to get a sports team into the Sprint Center.
  12. They picked a great time. Any sooner and they would have gotten less of a deal, any later and they wouldn't have gotten a deal. When you say "a deal", you mean taxpayer money from an already cash-strapped city and state? And did New Yankee Stadium really need to cost well over $1 billion? (Same with Citi Field and the Dallas Cowboys new place.)
  13. I'm just glad U2 is going to play Soldier Field. I was worried when they said that U2 was going back to outdoor venues for this tour that we'd see them at Wrigley.
  14. I saw him about a year ago at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse. He's easily in the 350 pound area. I was surprised to see him up here since I heard he doesn't travel as much due to his weight. I laughed the time he was on PTI and Tony Kornheiser kept calling him "Big guy."
  15. It looks like some of the seats on the 200 level of the new Yankee Stadium have posts in the way of the view. http://newstadiuminsider.blogspot.com/ http://newstadiuminsider.blogspot.com/ However:
  16. Where the hell was this Missouri team back in December at the MU/Illini game in St. Louis? I wasted a bunch of money to drive down there and watch a completely crappy game. I think half of the arena was on the concourse drinking beer and BSing after the first 5 minutes. I would have preffered an exciting game with an Illinois loss, than a boring Illinois blowout victory.
  17. Boy, do I hate Miller Park. (Points and laughes at Milwaukee.)
  18. Bonds, ARod, Clemens, and McGwire won't make the HOF. That is certainly something to be gained. You left Sammy off the list. Steroids is a pox on all of our houses. It's doesn't matter if you're a Cubs fan, Yankees fan, Red Sox fan or Cardinals fan.
  19. I think I found my new signature line.
  20. I'd say St. Louis. Talking with St. Louisans about this before, we've distilled it down to this: -It's a small city vs. bigger city thing. Same thing that exists between New York City and the cities of Philadelphia and Boston. -WGN's role as a Superstation during the 80's/90's and braodcasting Cubs games nationwide. Everyone else was jealous. -Harry Carey became nationally famous when he started doing Cubs games on TV. Jack Buck did more bigtime radio broadcasts (Super Bowls, Monday Night Football) along with Kirk Gibson's 1988 walk-off home run but never got the noteriety. -Busch II was a cold cookie cutter donut in the middle of a "bleh" downtown. Busch III is one of the worst and cheapest of new ballparks in the middle of the same. Wrigley soldiers along in a thriving neighborhood. -The southern Illinois vs Chicago rivalry.
  21. Haha, yeah, the same ballpark village that is/was scheduled for completion prior to the 2009 all-star game. With the economy the way it is, it's a good thing they didn't build it. I saw an article how the Kansas City Power and Light District (next to the Sprint Center and from the same developer) is already missing their loan payments and loosing tenants. That means the city and citizens will be responsible to cover that money. If anyone ever proposes the same type development for the Wrigley area: please punch them in the face for me.
  22. They're getting a new stadium too. I think its retractable roof. Those pansys can't stand playing outdoors in the winter. not necessarily. they have one in the works, tearing out the dome and replacing it, same site. but the MN state leg has to approve funding, and right now the state is running a HUGE deficit for 2010. its not a given in any way That was my understanding. My dad lives in Minnesota and is a Vikings season ticket holder. At least he says that a lot of people are ticked at how much public money was dumped on the Twins new stadium. Kind of like how St. Louis and Missouri got screwed royally on the dome the Rams play in. When the Cardinals built Busch Stadium III they "only" got minimal public money. That can easily be seen by how cheap the new Busch is when compared to other recent ballparks. It's his feeling that with the economy the Vikings are going to have to buck up most of the money if they want a new place. Either that or they'll be on the short list for a move to Los Angeles.
  23. I thought he was already had the "head coach-in-waiting" label at Dallas? Isn't he getting paid more than some head coaches?
  24. It would be nice to see an all-Canada Winter Classic next year. Montreal vs Toronto would be cool if there's a good venue.
