  1. A) There was a double-switch or... B) Somebody (his initials are Dusty Baker) jacked up the lineup yet again I'll go with B.
  2. 2003 Marlins: 15th in MLB with 333 OBP. Pierre had 65 steals, but he was also caught 20 times. They had 150 SBs as a team. 2005 Sox: They were 24th in baseball last year with a 322 OBP. Podsednik had 59 steals, caught 23 times. Aside from him, they really didn't have a whole lot of speed.
  3. I made no such claims. If you want to argue semantics, you're pointing out quantity that we gave up while I was referring to quality that we keep too long.
  4. Oh, they would have? How did they do against MSU this past season? Notre Dame will not join the Big Ten after watching the mighty Penn State go from a perennial powerhouse as an indy to getting knocked around like a good team should. In the Big Ten, ND would be the next Minnesota. I forgot....who won the Big 10 last year? My point was that PSU regressed to the means. It's not a knock against the program, just proof of how tough the league is in regards to football.

  6. Until I see numbers, there is no way I believe Pierre is faster than Patterson. Cedeno may be marginally faster than Nomar -- he was no slouch with the wheels. Murton is also marginally faster than Holla. Jones may be faster than Burny, but he'll only get a chance to prove that on defense as he probably won't spend too much time on base.
  7. And what about all of the other prospects over the years that we held onto for far too long and got nothing or very little for? How about Sosa, the Farns, Patterson, Sisco, Kelton, DuBois, etc. And what exactly did we get for Jimmy Anderson, Andy Shipman?
  8. I don't think we'll have to worry about Dusty managing a team based on speed and getting on base unless he gets fired and goes somewhere else because this ain't one of those teams.
  9. I surely hope Hill is dealt. With the hype that Hendry has put around him as well as some comments from other execs (was that in a Stark column?), his value is probably about as high as it will ever get. I simply do not envision him having a long, successful major league career, and I would like to see us sell high for a change.
  10. I actually like the idea of the tourney, I just wish it was done following the WS instead of during ST. If DLee gets a high ankle sprain or Aramis pulls a hammy, I'd like for them to have plenty of time to heal before opening day.
  11. I'd trade him for a WS appearance.
  12. Hopefully, he trades him to the Cubs for Dwaine Bacon and Roberto Novoa.
  13. Kobe's favorite teammate will always be Kobe.
  14. Might as well be Pitt. We already let those bums from Happy Valley in...
  15. Funny, I always felt that way about Doug Dascenzo.
  16. Who gives a crap about the NBA?
  17. Los Angeles Daily News If he sits out '06, he'll be sitting out '07, '08, '09...
  18. Frayed labrum (Kerry Wood). Matt Morris as well.
  19. I think that it seems like the Big East has a big game every night. With 64 teams in the conference, they had better have a big game every night.
  20. I just want to jump on and add to this. I do believe Sammy was juiced, but I also believe the corking was a complete accident. Not only did they check all those bats and find nothing, but Sammy was trying to get press conferences going immediately after it happened. He was being interviewed on ESPN by (I think) Gary Miller by the 7th inning. He was sincere in his apologies, and I honestly believe it was nothing more than a big mistake. Edit: During these in-game apologies, that's exactly what was coming out of his mouth -- apologies. Never excuses for what happened. He owned up to the mistake.
  21. Hendry's going to take off his belt and beat me until morning?
  22. I'd rather have B in that 5th spot. He'd probably do it for the league minimum. :D
  23. Corey Patterson was built like a tank and bounced shots off Sheffield occasionally, and I have also witnessed him beating out a routine ground ball to 2nd. SLG and speed are overrated at the top of the order.
