Wasn't he rated as having the best infield arm in our organization by BP? Either BP is off, or our IF prospects really suck. I saw enough of Ronny in Des Moines that I know his defense should never be a liability. Shame on you, Dusty. -
I'm starting my own ML team, and I'm naming Walker my starting 2B. I'll worry about finding some prospects to trade later.

I agree, but I also think that statement has much more merit than a lot of the other arguments you'll see. The team was absolutely horrible with their fundamentals last year, and picking up signs was near the top of that list.

I think it was a lot of both -- players getting lazy and coaches being close to incompetent at times.

how many signs did he miss last year? i can't find that stat (SM...MS?) on espn's stat page. also, how were is SM numbers compared to walker's? I wouldn't bust anyone's balls for that one. The whole damn team missed signs like crazy last year. It was sickening, and it got worse as the season went along. I wish they would keep stats for that, it would have further highlighted how pathetic last year's team was at times.

How can you hate or even dislike the man who hit that granny against the Cards??? Or how 'bout that HR that put us in the playoffs in 98??? That said, I don't believe that any team with a strong desire to win a WS championship can do so with players of his caliber. Neifi is not a good 25th man at his price. The only thing he really brings to the table is solid (not terrific) defense. Other (better) options were out there. -

I would take my chances with Soriano if the only available alternative was Neifi. Neifi is much better defensively, but Soriano would be spending a whole lot of time in some pretty good hitters' parks.

Stop using Corey and Nomar as excuses and examples. Corey's the poster child for impatient, and Nomar is a free-swinger as well. Turns out, Nomar's quite a bit better at making solid contact though. Without them, we posted the #2 BA in the league. Where were we in runs scored? Do you really think Corey hitting 275 with an OBP of 295 would really make enough of a difference?

When discussing the leadoff spot, OPS does nothing for me. I could care less if Slappy's SLG isn't the greatest if his OBP is 360 or better. Sure beats the snot out of what we've had.

You are correct that it's easier said than done, but Hendry has been in a perfect position to make it happen. The pitching has been there, all he needed to do was spend a ton of money wisely this offseason. Most other GM's are not in a position where they are easily able to upgrade to get in the top 5 of both.

Read that part again -- we were 2nd in AVG with Nomar down and Corey tanking, and we were not in the top half in runs scored. Pathetic.

That's not accurate. They were 9th in '05, 7th in '04, 11th in '03, and 12th in '02. (I don't recall when Hendry started)

No, balanced schedule is bad. While it is argues that is unfair, I'd rather have more chances to gain ground against division foes than an extra series or two against the Padres or Nationals. And less of the Cards playing the Royals.
