  1. Pretty soon Tejada will be linked to the Raiders in a 3-way involving Marcus Camby and some Popeye's chicken.
  2. Don't worry -- after he has had his glory, we will sign him to a ridiculous contract so he can come back here and underperform from the ages of 38-41.
  3. Still not 100%, unfortunately. Hopefully it isn't anything new. It was probably just a translation error. What he said was "doughnuts" keep him from playin in the DWL.
  4. He's certainly better than Less lina. That was for you, JC...
  5. How was the Texas INT a bad call? They got it right.
  6. Doesn't Rothschild call the game? Do we know that Bud Black doesn't call pitches for Anaheim? I'd be willing to bet that would also be the case in LA (as well as just about everywhere else). Molina's defense is not that much of a difference maker to offset the increased offense Barrett provides.
  7. Bartimole is definitely in a position to get greedy. Their best player is disgruntled and wants out, but he's still under contract for a couple of years. They don't have to get rid of him, why not see how much teams will be willing to overpay for his services? I think their brass knows the playoffs are not a realistic expectation for '06, so they're trying to hold out for a deal that makes it a little more likely. If every other GM around holds firm that they will not overpay for him (i.e. give up someone like Prior), the demands will be lowered.
  8. Keith Jackson is to College Football as Pat Summerall is to Pro Football As was Harry Caray to MLB.
  9. Does the NCAA have that "football move" rule when determining possession?
  10. And he's surrounded by a ridiculous amount of talent. I'd bet that if you give him an average college back and just above average recievers, you'd see a big difference in the results. Reggie Bush is the catalyst in this offense, not Leinart. Carson Palmer had a few good players around him as well. Granted, he didn't have Bush, but Leinart didn't have this same Reggie Bush a couple of years ago. Leinart is good and will be good in the NFL.
  11. you must have never seen randle-el in college. I saw him quite often.
  12. Yes, Vince can throw a ball. I'd say 2700+ yards at 64% for the #2 team in the nation is pretty darn good (including going for 270 vs OSU). Anywho, he doesn't have the best arm in the world by any means, but he's sure as hell a better QB than to be compared to Randle-El of all people.
  13. He reminds me of Randle-El except bigger and stronger. And he can throw the ball.
  14. He also likes the Patriots, the Pistons, and Tar Heel basketball. :P
  15. Perceptions of clutch are quite similar to the weird feeling you get when you are thinking of somebody, the phone rings, and it's the person you were just thinking of. That event stands out as something special, but the times you were thinking of Jane and Dick calls (which is mostly the case) go completely unnoticed. Derek Jeter's post-season reputation is a perfect example. He makes a few really good plays, and he is considered a clutch performer. His post-season line is 307/379/463/842. His regular season numbers are slightly better though: 314/386/461/847.
  16. You seem to have anger issues. Threats aren't appropriate here. I don't have anger issues, and I'd be right behind him the whole way.
  17. The improved morale really helped results form 2004 to 2005. If Walker hurt the team's morale, and thus hurt their chances, a less stupid GM would have chosen to stay with that gutty team guy Grudz when he had the chance instead of resigning Walker. Yep, should have kept Grudz. Too bad Hendry went the Moneyball route. :( yep, grudz really eclipsed walker with his offensive prowess. Well Grudz had 156 hits & 26 walks last year compared to Walker's 121 & 31, and superior defense should count for something. Grudz also played in 27 more games. Walker was far superior offensively last season.
  18. If you don't believe there's such a thing as a clutch player, you must not watch much sports, and you clearly didn't play many either. "Clutch" is rather subjective. Using the ManRam vs Big Papi example previously mentioned (last yr splits), it all depends on what your definition of clutch is. Close and late? Runner on 3rd < 2 outs? Bases loaded? Leading off an inning (rally starter)? If someone was truly "clutch", they really should be equally outstanding in all of these situations. Close and Late: Ramirez - 810 OPS (222 ABs) Ortiz - 1293 OPS (only 78 ABs) Runner on 3rd < 2 outs: Ramirez - 1124 (100 AB) Ortiz - 746 (32 AB) Bases loaded: Ramirez - 1019 (52 AB) Ortiz - 1200 (15 AB) Leading off: Ramirez - 1003 (402 AB) Ortiz - 944 (116 AB) Considering Ortiz's sample size is so small in close and late, I would hesitate to give either an advantage when asked who I thought was more "clutch". It is pure perception in this case.
  19. wood's problem is that he had to go out and strike out 20 during his rookie season, which everyone then started expecting from him every time out. one of the reasons that wood had TJS is because of that 20 k game. now, since he hasn't struck out 20 in a game in like 7 years, people are giving up on him, despiet the fact that he's a very effective pitcher. the primary wood detractors, imo, are the ones who expected him to duplicate his 20 k performancence--and were extremely let down when he hasn't. a 20 k game is lightning in a bottle, only 1 other pitcher has ever done it--it's simply unrealistic to expect woody to do it more than once. Slight nitpick, 2 others have done it. Clemens and Randy Johnson. And Clemens did it more than once. It's possible for Kerry to do it again.
  20. I hope to see a game that has a whole bunch of penalties and missed field goals and goes at least 3 OTs. Oh wait, that was last night. I hope both sides score on every possession. Last one with the ball wins.
  21. and working in underwriting is exactly the same as being on a baseball team. I think his point - that co-workers with poor attitudes can have a negative effect on the work environment - is universal. How much of an effect I think depends not only the type of employment but also on how beligerent or nasty the person is. Lots of talent can overcome some bad apples is universal as well.. Unfortunately, lots of the Cubs talent was sitting on the DL. :( So, you're arguing both sides? :?
  22. I'm fully expecting a 96-88 score. You pick the winner.
