  1. Houston's win unfortunately also means the Cubs no longer have sole possession of last place.
  2. Painful operation with a long, excruciating rehab. At his age, I wouldn't be surprised if we didn't see him pitch again.
  3. The Yankees don't care about OBP. You never hear them talking about it.
  4. I don't care who does and does not make the playoffs if the Cubs are not in contention. Needless to say, the playoffs have historically been pretty darn insignificant to me.
  5. i'm not sure what "playing the game right" means. my idea of playing the game right probably conflicts with his. "right", in the way we use it, is absolutist--but at the same time relative. it's some sort of paradox i'd say. personally, i'd take a team full of mannys and beat the hell out of his team full of ecksteins. Ryno's "right way" was playing without ego.
  6. Len, Thanks for taking the time to drop by again. I have 3 questions for you... (1) Last time you agreed to this I asked you how difficult it was to not scream "you suck" into the mic when a team goes through a long funk and you responded with class. Any changes to your opinion after this "season"? (2) Phil Nevin recently commented about some off field events. What do you know about some of the issues that affected this team that most of us know little about? (3) Would you mind if I told my buddies that you were my friend?
  7. His numbers are much more impressive when you take into account that he was a 20 year old pitching in AA. That said, I would tend to think the DRays would want pitchers who could help in 07 (Hill, Marshall, etc), not those like Veal and Gallagher who may or many not be ready in a year or two.
  8. He sure was in 2000. Not so much since.
  9. Sure would be cool if the Cubs had a lot of talent and about 342 more games to play this season. Screw the Cards and Stros.
  10. The entire Cubs org. shares the blame for getting Corey rushed. It was more than just Dusty Baker.
  11. I vote McCarver. When Morgan or Theisman say stupid stuff, it's usually at least coherent enough to retort. I still have yet to make any sense of anything that came out of McCarver's mouth.
  12. I would think this would rub a lot of coaching types the wrong way. Larry was the outsider forced on Baker from the start, and he was treated seperately from all other coaches all along. Now he would be the one guy retained despite the fact that the pitching was probably the one thing that most let down Baker? Did the pitching let down Baker, or did Baker let down the pitching?
  13. petition to ban fat jokes. Doesn't it actually have to be funny in order to be classified as a "joke"?
  14. Hush your mouth.
  15. Maybe it's why Neifi is gone? Fast Freddie Bynum was doinking Neifi? Dang, now if he could just start doing Blanco, Mabry, Pierre, himself, Pagan........
  16. How much of '05? Overall, he was bad.
  17. Hill is already part of the ARod deal.
  18. I hope Freddie Bynum was doinking someone and is about to be shipped off.
  19. Yes, Houston Wade Miller at 100% would be significantly better than Marmol, Marshall, Mateo, Guzman, etc. next season.
  20. We sucked slightly less with troublemakers.
  21. PLAY NICHOLSON Jack?
  22.
