  1. In the grand scheme of things I tend to agree with this, but when we've seen consistent issues with the process and managing the game from the HC and the things we're seeing are being called out by announcers and fans alike in real time, that where I think the coaching staff makes a difference. Things like not getting up the refs ass for head shots on Fields the last 2 years or about the DBs manhandling receivers early yesterday, not having conversations about different things the refs are looking at closely (the Lewis false start yesterday), and just generally not having a good process for reviews/challenges are all process things that anyone who's decent at managing anything can see are problems.
  2. I bet Arizona yesterday because I was so confident Eberflus had completely botched the handling of last week's debacle. He's lost the locker room and there's no coming back from it at this point with all the offensive line injuries. 5-12 is going to be neat.
  3. I assume you mean Soto?
  4. Like an hour after I posted that they declined options on Lynn, Gibson and someone else so they really are slashing everything. Lots of speculation around here about whether or not they dump Gray, Contreras and Arenado too. Just crazy.
  5. There isn't one. That's just for Cubs transactions.
  6. Apparently Waldron just doubled down on handing off to Kramer in that situation and said he'd do it again. I just can't fathom the stupidity of this administration.
  7. On the heels of Giddey shooting 100% from 3.
  8. The Cards actually hold team options on Lynn and Gibson and I'd bet they pick up Gibson's option.
  9. I think the overreaction from people, me included, is that this loss reinforced a lot of the things we thought were bad about the coaching staff even during the 3 game winning streak. There's a real chance this season goes Trestman on us if Flus doesn't handle the rest of this week well and win this weekend.
  10. The Yankees signing a right handed 1B they want to hit HRs would be a very, very dumb move. 99% chance their starting 1B next year hits LH.
  11. This is a spot where I think you have to take a step back from the analytics and look at the real, in game effect of a true impact guy in the lineup. With the rest of the lineup the Cubs are expected to run out next year that looks to have no real weak spot (assuming PCA and Amaya don't go back in the tank or another reliable C is signed), the impact of a 7 WAR guy whose value is primarily on offense will make a bigger impact on this lineup than going other routes. Having that guy who puts up a 178 OPS+ (career 160, which is probably more likely at Wrigley vs Yankee Stadium) as a constant threat in the lineup is going to have a bigger impact than a couple 125 OPS+ guys at the same price tag.
  12. Busch started 130 games, is 10 years younger, and was way more productive than Goldschmidt at first last year. What on earth makes you think they'd do something like that?
  13. Bernstein mentioned his injury yesterday and didn't sound optimistic, so he may know something he can't say out loud, and that makes this more plausible to me than it would be otherwise.
  14. The cheapest beer at Busch outside of a $5.25 pre-game special is $9.75 so there's no way that data is accurate.
  15. Because through just dumb luck of timing they signed the most lucrative cable tv deal in history right before the market dried up and have created an insurmountable financial advantage that absolutely nobody else can match, not even the Yankees.
  16. And it was waaaaaaaaaay worse than the posted numbers. There were a lot of games where you could get tickets for $1. I love baseball but it was hard to justify going to a game even with the cheap tickets because for my gf and I to get a couple beers and share nachos, it's $100. I can't imagine how families afford games these days. Also, Busch concessions are markedly more expensive than Wrigley.
  17. Ah, yes, name calling. I'd advise you to go look at Vogelbach in the minors. This is a very, very bad take.
  18. You say a lot of very definitive things with zero evidence to back you up.
  19. That was the other glaring one to me. The spot on the 3rd down run before the trash throw to DJ on 4th down was an absolutely challengeable call. I thought they spotted him nearly a full yard short and probably had the first down, which would have been a game changing call.
  20. I feel like whenever there's a jailbreak on a blitz, Jenkins is involved. It happened a few times last season and I thought then it was on the center because they were just so bad last year. I've seen it again a couple times this year, yesterday included. LB comes on a slightly delayed blitz and it's a guy Jenkins should pick up with the LT taking the DE and he just runs free to the QB. Is he just missing those or is that a tough enough assignment it happens to even the best guys?
  21. I was 100% expecting them to get pantsed and it would have been worse if Oregon didn't call off the dogs in the second half.
  22. This coaching staff ain't it and I've not wavered from that stance since Poles announced Flus would be back last year. He's just not ready for prime time. The goal line play is something you do to give teams something to think about when you're trying to go up by 3 TDs in a game you already have in hand, not when you're down 5 in the 4th quarter of a game you've scored 7 points in. The 2 consecutive runs with Caleb before the PI on Allen were another WTF moment. The coverage drop on the 2nd to last play. No pass rush on the hail Mary. This group will never get them to the promised land regardless of how well Caleb plays. That said, a Bears QB leading a game winning TD drive in the 4th quarter and it not being a miracle is something I could get used to. Caleb is the real deal in spite of the struggles yesterday. He's 7 games into his career and he's already done that more times than most Bears QBs in my lifetime. I was in an airport last night and yelled out "Are you horsefeathers kidding me!?!?!?" when Washington scored and had a buddy send me a screenshot of the best man from his wedding doing the exact same thing in an airport and getting the same weird looks I did.
  23. Sure, but he was developed under the Theo regime and we all know he wouldn't have had a chance in hell of becoming a productive player under the Hendry regime so I'm counting him in the Theo bucket regardless of who picked him.
  24. I think this is a tough criticism to dole out considering the lowest of the Theo picks was Baez (and Happ) at #9 while the highest pick from Jed has been Horton at #7 and it's too soon to judge that pick yet.
