    I was very concerned about PCA until he hit that home run to get his first hit because he just looked antsy and lost at the plate, but he's been so much more comfortable since then that I think he really has that star potential. I'm not saying he doesn't have flaws and isn't going to struggle a bit, but i really think his ceiling is incredibly high and I would hate to trade that for a relief pitcher, even if it is a 100 mph throwing closer.

    Are you thinking this is an organizational/strategy thing or that guns are slow?

    That 101 on the black pitch is about as filthy as it gets. That had Maddux like movement and was 7-8 mph faster than he ever threw that pitch. If he can throw strikes consistently, that's a terrifying weapon at the back of the pen.

    Sure, but 6 hits doesn't say soft contact to me. He also only threw 70 pitches and gave up hits to the last 2 guys he faced. Color me skeptical.

    This ump has been trash both ways today.

    The Cubs currently have 17.1 bWAR (from 2023) on the IL and are basically tied for first place. It certainly hasn't been pretty but the record with that much production sidelined is pretty impressive.

    The Tom thing is just using weird ass language to make a point way more complicated than if you just used plain English so everyone understands what you're trying to say.

    I was watching. Nothing weird and looked like that was the plan. Not great but it's a first rehab start so I'm not worried about it at this point.

    I feel like most people backed off that sentiment when the contract was 3 years instead of 2 because of the fear that exactly this would happen. That contract ended up being a higher AAV than expected too didn't it?

    This was going to be my suggestion. Seems like posting a link to the article in the active discussion and then the main post would be in the "Front Page News" section or whatever it's called that some (but not all?) articles end up in eventually. On that note, why do articles that get posted in Cubs Discussions also appear in the Front Page News section and marked as unread for me even though I read them when they were originally posted?

    Looks like he went on the IL on 4/7 so he's not eligible to return until June 6th if my math is right.

    The number of Cards fans drooling over him and justifying a signing with the old "Derp, she was lying about the assault" line of thinking is just gross.

    I assume this is referencing the Morel play? If so, he's made plays on 2 balls tonight that would have likely ended up in the dugout in the first couple weeks of the season. He didn't get outs on either, but they were close plays on real tough chances. He's much improved over there. On the other hand, Dansby has kinda been dogshit all season and needs to get it together.

    I think you take 7 innings and are really happy with it, especially considering he's going on 4 days rest next time and he's not used to that.

    The pen has been terrific since the last game of the Padres series. It's amazing what happens when they're not carrying the load for the starters.

    Really solid plate appearance by Busch there to get the ball in the air and the run home.
