  1. My thought process on Bellinger over Chapman is kind of 2 pronged. First, the offensive downturn from Chapman last year is a bit scary and while Belli may not have great projections (I'll be surprised if he's not closer to 3.5 assuming health in 2024) and some concern with the hard hit rate etc., he's still likely to get more of his total WAR from offense than defense and offense is really where the team is deficient at the moment. I think the other piece is that the offensive gap between what the Cubs may get from the current 3B options vs Chapman held up against Belli vs PCA is much smaller as well.
  2. @Brock Beauchamp can you have a word with this guy? He's having trouble fitting in is the most polite way I can put it.
  3. So we've established that Chapman was never going to re-sign with the Cubs whether you're willing to admit that or not. The other top relivers who were FA before the 2017 season: Greg Holland: turns out this would have been a great signing but he was coming of TJS and no sure things. Mark Melancon: was bad on the 4 year deal he signed with the Giants. Kenley Jansen: was never leaving LA Neftali Feliz: not a closer Brett Cecil: not a closer Brad Zeigler: not a closer There was legit one guy who was an unknown quantity at the time who would have been a worthwhile signing that offseason who may have come to Chicago.
  4. A. Do you know they didn't offer him a contract? B. You can't make a player sign with your team when he clearly wants to be elsewhere. C. You're new here, maybe back off on the attitude a bit and get a feel for the board before you come out swinging and belittling people.
  5. What are you talking about? Everyone agrees, including Tommy Hottovy, that they need more pen help. I'm not sure what your cryptic post is getting at.
  6. That's not what happened at all and the only reason Busch is here is because he's blocked by proven ML guys at every position with the Dodgers and is clearly being assigned 1B by Hoyer as he stated at the convention last weekend. If you don't see it, you're intentionally ignoring the signs.
  7. The pitching, specifically the bullpen, failed miserably the last few weeks. The offense was largely just fine.
  8. Because they just traded for one and called up Jared Young instead of the other late last season. They've made it fairly obvious.
  9. People are simply insisting that it was no less consistent than many other good teams. The Astros scored 3 or less 63 times as well. Your point is moot based on how baseball works. Just by the nature of the game you're going to have a bunch of games where you don't score much and others where you knock the cover off the ball. If your real point was that they need more slug in the lineup as currently constructed, I don't think you'll get much argument but the data point you used was a terrible way to try to demonstrate that.
  10. Morel just last year.
  11. Anybody have access to the Cubs on the list? https://www.baseballamerica.com/rankings/2024-top-100-prospects/
  12. I'm not discounting that he can be a very good player, just that best player in the organization is pretty hyperbolic.
  13. What? He absolutely does not have that potential. He doesn't play the field well enough at any position, he doesn't hit for enough power or walk enough (from hat we've seen in the minors so far) to even approach that level.
  14. It's a shame the refs decided to give KC this game on a horsefeathers roughing penalty while not calling a hold on the same play. Chiefs fans are perhaps the most obnoxious people in existence.
  15. It's $5.99/month. Regardless of cost, it's still horsefeathers. They also are running a $30 for a whole year special knocking it down to $2.50 a month and I bit on that because there's enough other things on there my gf and I will watch that it becomes worth it at that price point.
  16. I feel like those are exactly the moves to make if you do want to spend on other things to fill remaining gaps.
  17. Or even more importantly, I think they maybe aren't sure Chapman is worth it based on his awful last 4 months of the season last year.
  18. This was my first instinct when it became clear that it was lower level guys going back to the Dodgers. Are Morel and/or Mervis getting moved in a separate deal to get pitching or trim 40 man spots?
  19. So did Nebraska pants Purdue last night just because they shot 60% from 3 or was it something else? I didn't see the game but that was the box score item that really jumped out at me.
  20. Bienemy is the guy I immediately thought of and Poles should have a relationship with him from KC. I think if you look at how much the KC offense struggled this year after he left, you maybe have hope that he's a guy who can bring some creativity and solutions to the stagnant stuff we saw this year.
  21. Ah yes, the predictable half measure that will inevitably backfire. God I hate this team so much.
  22. I don't remember if it was here or somewhere else but someone speculated he's basically playing on one leg and has been for the second half of the season. I'm not sure if that makes enough of a difference, but I'm definitely of the same mind as you on him.
  23. His processing looked light years faster than Fields. I think most of the 4th quarter has to be discounted because of what I'm betting is a cracked rib he was trying to protect that affected almost every throw, but I agree he just looked a little discombobulated in general in terms of throwing motion. Too many floating 50/50 balls even before he got hurt too. McCarthy didn't really impress me at all either.
