  1. Underwood seems like he's pretty adept at getting guys to mesh quickly. They had what, 2 guys come back last year that had played major minutes previously in Hawkins and Shannon?
  2. Steele should have been pissed at himself if it was about the rundown. He got it off to a bad start by not making the runner commit to a base sooner and it got the whole sequence out of whack.
  3. I think this is really underselling the talent on the team. Something is definitely wrong with them right now, but this is a team full of guys who have put up 3-5 WAR seasons who haven't all just suddenly gotten old or forgotten how to play. They have to regress to the mean at some point.
  4. I think we go back to the fly balls to center and opposite fields data and the answer lies there.
  5. I'm heading to the Bay Area tomorrow morning and will be in the building for the game tomorrow night, so hopefully they can manage to minimize the suckage this week.
  6. The 95+ part is really the big takeaway I have from this season. I know that it's just harder to hit those pitches, but man is it a glaring deficiency with this team and there are only going to continue to be more of those guys at time goes on.
  7. Apparently I should just be in charge here. 😂
  8. What Dude said, plus Davis was hitting .160/.250/.440 in June and while the OPS is still good, the average is down to .229 on the season and he's striking out 25% of the time.
  9. Right, I'm agreeing with you that philosophy is the issue. Hit lines drives opposite field, fly balls to the pull side. I also think these numbers are being affected more for the Cubs than others by the ball, which I'm convinced is softer than it has been and isn't going as far.
  10. I've been saying for at least a month that they aren't hitting the ball the other way enough. Dansby pulled a ball in the air to LF last night that was on the black (at best, maybe even outside) and it was a pitch he could have easily taken the other way. He's the biggest offender but I'm sure there's other guys doing the same thing. Busch seems to have adapted the best and we've seen several left center gap shots from him of late.
  11. Then what is? You specifically said you'd rather have Alonso than Busch and Busch has been clearly the better player, both offensively and defensively. He also costs substantially less, allowing other positions to be filled with that money. Please explain, with specific details, what the point of your post was without moving the goal posts or calling anyone names.
  12. The only one of these things I sort of disagree with is PCA every day and that's only because I think getting Canario up to replace Tauchman, assuming he goes to the IL, is probably a more likely to be productive move than PCA hitting 9th against lefties.
  13. With the catching situation as bleak as it is right now, would it be worth it to give him a shot? He's consistently been just under league average in CS% and while the OPS isn't pretty, it's better than either of the current catchers and he's pretty consistently hit .230ish when he's gotten regular playing time. I don't know, I'm just tired of the same trash on the field every day, maybe new trash will be more interesting.
  14. The problem is the unwillingness to hit a line drive to the opposite field. Last night I watched Dansby pull a fly ball to LF on a pitch on the outside edge instead of hitting it to RF. It's a constant problem and until they start hitting line drives to the opposite field, they aren't going to get those inside pitches they can actually hit over the fence by pulling them.
  15. I'm convinced it's the ball again. MLB needs to pick something and stick with it so we don't keep having these insane yoyo seasons where nobody knows what to expect.
  16. Luis Robert since Tom only speaks in code.
  17. The offense has been both bad and unlucky. I have a hard time putting the record on the pitching because every single inning is high leverage and that takes a toll.
  18. Just watching him, it feels like he's hitting the ball hard and laying off the high FB more frequently, so I'll take those things as a developmental win.
  19. No idea. There would probably have to be an injury settlement, but in the meantime they can transfer him to the 60 day IL to clear a spot. It's going to be that long before he's back anyway.
  20. I think Carl and Roberts are the logical candidates. Not necessarily a solution, but you have to try something right?
  21. That's the whole team shitting their pants you're smelling.
  22. I think there actually are some pen arms in Iowa that could help but none are on the 40 man, meaning cutting bait with Madrigal and Mastro is necessary. At this point, I'm all for that.
  23. Baseball from 1924 I think. I did enjoy PCA going first to third on the Gomes bunt.
