  1. Eh, I would think just the opposite. May light a fire for the rest of the year knowing noone is safe and everybody has to fight for a job. Frankly, I hope they pick it up enough to win the WC because I really would rather not play the Phils in a 5 game series.
  2. BOOOOOO Pat. Got me all exicted.
  3. You too, huh. At least a tree didn't fall on your house too.
  4. From the same article: When and why did this happen?
  5. The Cubs deserve this for the way they've played lately. http://msp136.photobucket.com/albums/q170/bdog555/fat-girls-in-bikinis.jpg
  6. I was at the game last night and thought Lou made 3 pretty big mistakes: 1. Not PHing for Demp in the top of the 6th when they had a chance to blow the game open. Minor deal, but could have made a big impact. 2. Bunting with Soto. Are you freaking kidding me? Just because the guy's a rookie doesn't mean you have to have him bunt in that spot. On a side note, awful baserunning by Felix as his lead was about a foot and a half off the bag. 3. Not walking Izturis. Skip freaking Schumaker was next. Take a chance Lou.
  7. The thing most ingrained in my memory from that season is Brant Brown dropping an easy fly ball in Milwaukee to cost the Cubs a game they had won. I was in the weight room in LaCrosse, WI with my buddy the Brewers fan. And then later I heard Ronny nearly have a coronary in the booth.
  8. Go with Ricky. Less unknowns and he's getting all the carries.
  9. huh? All I'm saying is, if Z isn't 100%, which he probably won't be, is that still better than Lilly when it comes to the NLDS? The way the off days work out they'll all probably pitch anyway. The 1-4 guys that is.
  10. His biggest problem is that he deals only in absolutes and is a totally, completely arrogant prick. Other than that, he's ok.
  11. No, it's definitely not. Last year, IIRC, they started selling them well before the Cubs had clinched. I think it was like mid-September... NLCS tickets went on sale before the NLDS even began. I would guess we'll hear something within 7-10 days about when they'll go on sale. You think it'll be that soon? I certainly hope so. I need to know with as much notice as possible so that I don't schedule anything for that morning. Here's my make everyone jealous for the day moment: I found out several weeks ago that one of my wife's best friends from high school works for Ticketmaster in St. Louis and can get tickets to just about anything for personal use pretty much at will for cost. I will definitely be taking advantage of this information for the playoffs.
  12. I wonder how many people go out of their way to buy the road cap... red is my favorite color. it looks good on the hat and i have no problem with the cubs having a home and road cap. this year i finally got an official hat that fits, but its the home hat. i would get the road hat, but not too many stores carry cubs hats in size 8 however i do plan on doing so in the future. if you all hate it so much, demand that the red "C" on the cap change to a different color or come off competely. The red color in and of itself isn't the issue people have. I don't know about everybody else, but I think it looks kind of cartoony with the red bill and button and just prefer the more traditional look of the all blue hat. Similarly, I think the alternate hats the Reds have worn in the past (and possibly currently, I really don't pay attention) don't look nearly as good as the all red with the traditional C on them.
  13. QB: Warner or E. Manning RB: J Jones or M Lynch WR/TE (pick 2): Winslow, Reggie Brown, B. Engram
  14. Yeah, mine too. And put me in the camp that says you should be compared to your average perfomance, not some arbitrary number determined by the rest of the players. Comparing what Pujols should vs. the rest of the league and then using the same numbers to compare Ronny Cedeno to the rest of the league is just dumb. Pujols would always be clutch and it would be nearly impossible for Ronny to be, if such a thing does exist.
  15. Fixed. I'm not ready to write off the Rockies just quite yet. DIRK HAYHURST The 8/16 entry is the best. That's really cool. Good to know there are still a few guys out there with a heart who are willing to give a little when they can.
  16. Looks to me like Lou wants Shark to go the 7th and 8th here to get it to Marmol. No reason to double switch otherwise.
  17. this is, of course, ridiculous and really, really terrible logic. i believe in choking, as it's obvious someone can crumble under pressure. but the idea that someone can magically enhance their ability in certain situations is enough to make me not believe in "clutch." if ramirez had the ability to turn it on in certain spots or enhance his focus in certain situations, he would do it all the time and make millions and millions of more dollars. unless it's like video game power that can only be used for so long...like the wings in super mario 3. So you don't believe there are certain guys who are able to focus their concentration a little better than normal in high pressure situations and end up doing a better job than they normally might? I really don't see it as an "enhancement of ability" as much as I see it as a higher concentration level. I guess my best recollection of this off the top of my head is Rumeal Robinson of Michigan and his free throw shooting. He was like a 65% FT shooter overall but his FT% in the last 2 minutes of games was over 80%. Again, numbers off the top of my head and may not be exact, but they're close.
  18. On top of that, I know a lot of Cubs fans who go up to Milwaukee for a game just because they like baseball and it's cheaper and less of a hassle to get in and out of there. Not something measurable, but I'd guess probably another 40-50k ish contributed over the course of a season.
  19. Fantasy question: Would everyone agree that Davis is probably going to be Orton's favorite target? Or at the very least, the Bears most productive receiver? I don't get much Bears news down here in St. Louis.
  20. Look, I follow the Cards probably as closely as anybody on this board since I live in St. Louis, so I have a pretty good idea of what they've got. Samardzija and Perez have similar makeup in terms of stuff (high 90s heat and a slider) but Samardzija has a much higher ceiling because he's so raw and has a 3rd pitch, plus he may develop into a groundball pitcher because of his 2 seamer. If you asked 100 scouts, at least 90-95 of them would take Shark over Perez. Not that Perez doesn't have a lot of good things going for him, he just doesn't potentially project to be a starter like Shark. And, he's the best the Cards have right now to finish games as long as Duncan leaves him alone.
  21. Details?
  22. Awesome video! It's amazing how many balls he hit out that were on the outer half/edge of the plate. What is the song you've got with it? And by whom?
  23. Who is saying this in bold? AP has an ego, that much is true. Of course, it's a general rule (not my rule) that the greater player you are, the more you get away with. Let me know when Bill Hall and great make a sentence together. I have actually seen/heard a lot more pissing and moaning down here over the Brewers coming out on the field and untucking their shirts than anything else they've done. I mean, Braun really is an arrogant little prick, but I would certainly probably love him if he played for the Cubs. And, wow, did the Cards crap the bed last night. My favorite part was LaRussa after the game saying that he sent Welly back out for the 7th because he "had a low pitch count". Apparently they don't teach math at law school. His PC after the 6th was 101.
  24. West W L Pct GB Home Road East Cent West Streak L10 Los Angeles Angels (15) 80 51 .611 -- 40-26 40-25 28-15 21-14 21-14 Won 1 4-6 x-Clinched Playoff Spot; y-Division Champ; () Magic Number for Division Championship Don't know how long this has been up, but apparently Yahoo! is counting the Angels' magic number and it's at 15 right now.
  25. So since we're all rooting for the Cards tonight, I have this strange feeling that reverse pixie dust will be in effect and Wainright's healed finger will just fly off his hand as he throws a curveball. Or not, Cards win 7-2. We lead by 6 at the end of the day.
