    The irrational hate for Marquis, in my opinion, stems from the fact that he's not a guy who will go 6 or 7 innings each time out and give up 3 or 4 runs for that 4.50 ERA. He's a guy who will go out and give you eight innings of one run ball today and then lay a total egg the next time and give up 6 in 4 innings. It all ends up with him being his hovering around average self, but there are so many outliers from around the average that you never know which guy is going to show up and it makes the fans (and management I would imagine) a little crazy.

    Sorry, I'm having a rough week and it thoroughly amused me. My 3 week old sleeps about 6 hours a day and none of them seem to be when its dark outside.

    We aren't arguing minutiae. The GM is the boss's boss. He's got a problem employee who is under contract and refusing to act accordingly. Getting on him for "redassing" a player while eating in front of others is ridiculous. You're simplifying it. We're still talking unions here, and if Chacon were bolting Ford Explorers together and someone in management came down while he was eating lunch and started in on him, with no steward present, there'd be hell to pay. This was Cooper's responsibility, pure and simple. They could have suspended him for insubordination to the manager, the way the Angels handled Guillen in '04. Wade had no reason to make it personal. Do you consider an exec raising his voice and using profanity towards a union member appropriate behavior? Not the same thing. He refused to even go into the meeting where if he requsted it/required it he gets to have a union rep present. He has no leg to stand on because he refused to even go into the meeting and then proceeded to pummel management. I don't care how union you are, that's not ok.

    That's correct. I read a study somewhere that said in laboratory testing there was almost zero difference in the way the ball came off the bat in maple vs. ash. The fad started after Bonds hit 73 using a maple bat and a bunch of guys started following suit. I read all that in the same article, just don't remember where it came from. Edit: Apparently I read most of that in OMC's OP.

    OO, I miss the summaries you usually do. If it's a time thing, no biggy, but if you just thought nobody looked at them, I did all the time.

    Cards/Tigers still in the rain delay. It would be great if they had to play it over tomorrow. (I don't remember what inning they were in.) Why has Fonty been up in every big situation tonight?

    I won't criticize your avatar, but I will say every time I see it I think of Band of Brothers. That was a great series, but I had a hard time taking the guy from Office Space seriously.

    they can't control their arms yet. it's like she's aiming for them. And they do have some (instinctive) control. I guess they're not strong enough to do much permanent damage so there won't be much selection pressure, but still. You can get onesies with things to cover their fingers so they don't scrath their faces and eyes, but yeah there isn't a lot you can do about them hitting themselves. Or you can get them mittens with no thumbs. See the avatar that is apparently ruining everyone's day.

I believe I'm also the 1st person to ever have their kid in their avatar. (Or maybe not if you check the game thread starter from the 4 before today) no. it's just God awful to look at. period...     I'm pretty sure it's because they really have no concept of eyes or fingers. Or that they have them.

    No. Greeny is a Yanks fan (he grew up in the city) and Golic is an Indians fan as he grew up in/near Cleveland.
