  1. I'm being greedy, but what if Hill DID get it back together and we had the addition of him AND Harden/Burnett/Sabathia/etc for the 2nd half....
  2. beginning? Everyone goes through a bad stretch, right? I'm beginning to wonder if this is more than a bad strech.
  3. That was a bad move, Lou... ...and I'm beginning to wonder if Marmol is alright.
  4.
  5. I've been to 19 MLB ballparks, and I've attended hundreds of games in STL in my lifetime. Your fans are no more respectful or observant than the majority of the other fans out there. It becomes obnoxious when they are quick to acknowledge how observant and respectful they think they are...
  6. Your words, not mine; but thanks for the compliment. That comment was soaked with sarcasm... I live in STL, and I can tell you firsthand that there's very few Cardinal fans around that have anything nice to say about Edmonds - have you forgotten how your relationship ended on a sour note? No, but I also haven't forgotten everything he did for the franchise. Including restructuring his contract multiple times to accomodate resigning Pujols and other FA's. It was sour, but I think ultimately the decision worked out for both parties. The Cardinals felt that it was Ankiel's time regardless of whether Jim could still play or not (and you have you admit his performance had declined in the last few years) and Jim still wanted to start. Overall his time is STL was much more good than bad and I think a lot of fans will remember that when they see 15 back at Busch. If they don't then they are a paying too much attention to the uniform and last 2 years. He'll get a standing ovation because Cardinal fans "think" that's the right thing to do, especially 'cause they're such a classy organization. The consensus here in STL was that they should've never signed him to that last contract - and his performance during that period further fueled their anger. They may remember for a quick applause what he brought them, but they'll quickly forget when he aids us in beating up on his old teamates!

  8. 1. Who has accepted Marquis? Quite the contrary, actually. Personally, I'd prefer we ate the rest of his contract and dumped him. 2. I'm sure Edmonds will received a standing ovation this weekend because Cardinal fans are the best fans in the baseball!! =D>
  9. INDIVIDUAL STATS IS WHAT I"M LOOKING AT. How was that not clear by the #'s I posted and my comment "I'd much rather take the gamble on Molina, Ryan, Miles , Kennedy and Itzuris vs LH than Ankiel, Ludwick and Schumaker vs RH."? Well, you said OPS yields similar results, which is just not true. Glaus is 100 points of OPS better against LHP and it's even worse if you look at his career splits. Pujols has been murdering LHP to the tune of nearly a 1.400 OPS. But overall, comparing individual batting averages seems like a really terrible way to make this decision. YES, individual OPS yields similar results. Pujols crushes everything, so there's not a need to include his splits. Ankiel, Ludwick and Schumaker are considerably better vs. RH pitching. I'd rather take my chances on Molina, Glaus, Ryan, Itzturis, Barton and a weaker hitting Ludwick. Miles is a wash. vs LH vs RH Ankiel .639 .934 Ludwick .826 .994 Schumaker .400 .915 Glaus .902 .802 Miles .769 .734 Ryan .769 .539 Itzuris .731 .571 Barton .744 .682 Molina 1.047 .598 When the team splits are almost identical, I think it's weird to give an individual breakdown. The team, as a whole, puts up almost identical numbers against LHP and RHP. Why does it matter which guy is beating you? Oh - and excluding Pujols is convenient for your argument. Since we're limiting splits to this year, he's 400 points of OPS better against LHP. Why ignore that? For starters, I'm ignoring Pujols' splits not because it's "convenient", but because he mashes everything. Pujols is a game changer, vs LH or RH. Would you not agree? It doesn't matter which guy is beating you. Didn't I say I'd "rather take my chances" on them relying on Molina, Glaus, Ryan, Itzturis, Barton and a weaker hitting Ludwick for offense? I'd also "rather take my chances" on Marshall instead of Marquis vs the Cardinals!
  10. With 13 pitchers you only have 4 guys to pinch hit, and one of them is the catcher. He probably didn't want to burn any more pinch hitters than absolutely necessary. Yeah, but keeping 13 pitchers is another head-scratcher. Silly La Russa It's pretty much a necessity given their rotation woes (i.e. converted relievers with injuries and tired arms).

  13. Yeah, it looks like he's going on WL record rather than actual performance against LHP v RHP (OPS against or something). Seems like an odd way to make that decision. Is it better to "go by the numbers" if you're going to use the wrong numbers to make decisions? AVG vs LH vs RH Pujols .442 .315 Molina .380 .260 Ryan .351 .222 Miles .324 .328 Kennedy .286 .258 Izturis .279 .220 Glaus .265 .271 Ludwick .237 .311 Ankiel .210 .280 Schumaker .176 .338 Barton .243 .271 Duncan .107 .261 I'd much rather take the gamble on Molina, Ryan, Miles , Kennedy and Itzuris vs LH than Ankiel, Ludwick and Schumaker vs RH. OPS yields similar results...
  14. You entered a thread that had absolutely NOTHING to do with the Cardinals....after more than a handful of posts a poster (with a low post count I might add) makes a joke on the Cardinals... Then you stir the pot instead of going back to Cardinalville and letting this thread stay on topic. You obviously knew that your comments would result in a plethora of retorts your way - you fueled the fire and then have the audacity to complain about it? :good:
  15. please list the 20 cardinals and the 3 cubs. because i can think of four cubs in two seconds w/o even trying. Are we just talking current or past as well? 2008: Aaron Miles Braden Looper Todd Wellemeyer Kyle Lohse Skip Schumaker Brendan Ryan Jason LaRue Rick Ankiel past years: Tony Womack Jeff Weaver Abraham Nunez Bo Hart So Taguchi not 20, but close, and I'm sure I'm forgetting guys For the Cubs: Jim Edmonds Geovany Soto Ryan Dempster By the standards that you're using (Aaron Miles??): Mark DeRosa Ryan Theriot Ronny Cedeno Reed Johnson Henry Blanco Kerry Wood Carlos Marmol Jason Marquis Derosa actually came into his own in '06 with the Rangers, and has continued this success with the Cubs. Johson's #'s are very similar to his career avg. Marquis hasn't had a better season with us than he had with STL. Kerry Wood? Gimme a break - that's the biggest joke on this list. So he's lucky because he's not hurt? So...what standards are YOU using?
  16. I'm glad we're not facing Sanchez...
  17. I saw that during the game as well, but thought my eyes were deceiving me. Woody is the man!
  18. The Cards encountered the same pathetic umpiring at Kauffman Stadium this weekend. There's no excuse for this many blown calls.
  19. Then you haven't been watching Lou for the past 1 1/2. Pie is the rule. Theriot is only playing b/c there is no one else Lou is comfortable with (read, no vet). Barrett was a very dumb baseball payers and an even worse defensive catcher, Soto has produced. With Lou, if you're a first or second year player you better produce right away and you better not make any mistakes because you only get one shot. He's as old school as they come. The difference between Dusty and Lou is that Lou lives in a reality based world and Dusty doesn't. I don't think Lou is "as old school as they come".... The Cubs organization as a whole is in win-now mode. The organizational viewpoint is that now isn't the time to exercise patience or give young, blossoming players the appropriate time to develop at the big league level. You can scratch your head all you want but the logic of your post makes little sense to me.. If the Cubs are in a win now mode Then Lou should Play Murton in LF until Soriano comes back. If the Cubs are in a win now mode Then they shouldn't play young players out of position and then have a hissy when they make a mistake. It's almost a law of physics that players playing out of position will make mistakes. If one puts in player whose played infield almost his entire life in the outfield one is almost guaranteeing that mistakes will happen. What makes little sense? Murton has not produced when he was brought up this year (see patience remark). What doesn't make sense about that? If the young players are hot and producing at the plate, they are attempting to get that hot bat in the lineup. I agree that they shouldn't throw a hissy fit they make a mistake playing outta position...

  21. Randy Wolf is a worthless acquisition, regardless of Z's injury status.
