His writing in the P-D panders to the St. Louis sheep. He actually speaks pretty intelligently and calls out Cardinal and fan stupidity on his radio show on a regular basis. He also, surprisingly, is a huge stats/saber guy (well, he uses stats all the time and he weighs 300+ lbs). And he hates TLR's guts because of the way he treats people. The writing is much different than his real point of view, but I think he gets reigned in a little by the paper and isn't really allowed to do what he wants. Pretty terrible of him to let that happen, but whatever. Bernie is obnoxious, and I think he's by far the least intelligent sportswriter in STL. I agree that his usage of sabre/stats is refreshing, as is his willingness to call out the Cards and their fanbase. However, more often than not he's just a hothead using faulty logic to arrive at an irrelevant/ignorant conclusion. He and TLR do have a "history" together - and if I was TLR I would've punched him in a couple of those spats. Do you recall their most recent, and possibly biggest blow-up? TLR was defending the Cubs after Bernie's article "Why the Cubs will never break the curse"...
