  1. I'm gonna give you the same response that I did on the previous page of this thread, when you expressed identical concerns. The deal with Peavy isn't gonna magically get solved when our "new owner" approves or disapproves of the payroll status. $$ is not holding the deal up. The deal is held up because we don't have the pieces that the Padres need. It's been stated repeatedly, including by Towers himself on multiple occasions. I'm not so certain that is true. Towers has talked about needing a 3rd or 4th team, but that doesn't mean we don't have what it would take. It could mean are not willing to part with what he wants. It could also mean we need a 3rd or 4th team to take a salary back so we can afford Peavy. I think having a new owner could help the Cubs chances. Maybe Hendry isn't willing to part with what Towers wants because he is saving trade chips for a hitter, and the new owner says he can sign Ibanez and trade for Peavy. Unless you are Hendry all we know is what is reported, so I wouldn't be so absolute about anything. I haven't read anything that states we have the pieces Towers is looking for but are unwilling to give them up.

  3. A deal hasn't taken place because we don't have what the Padres want.
  4. That is absolutely stupid. What a joke!!
  5. why would you trade veal for lifetime .248 hitter who hit .213 last year, dont we have Cedeno already? I understand why people think Greene is an upgrade over Theriot, i hate theriot and i still think he's better than Greene. If you are going to look for an upgrade over theriot, than think about Furcal, Renteria, Tejada, Philips, etc before thinking about Greene. Theriot is not better than Greene. Don't the #s tell a different story?
  6. I could care less how many games he choked in the postseason. If Jason Marquis put up Dempster's #'s last year, would you be willing to give him 4/50?
  7. 4-6 4.21 ERA 1.41 WHIP - injury in June (due to the fact that last year was his first season over 100 innings since 2003!)
  8. =D> I can't believe we passed on Woody and signed this fluke.
  9. A career year @ 32, an 11-year ERA of 4.55 & WHIP of 1.49. I'm very thankful that he was able to lead us to a division title this year, but there's a significant regression from last year in store for Dempster. Marquis has a 9-year ERA of 4.55 & 1.43 WHIP.
  10. I surely hope this doesn't turn out to be an offseason of regression. Replace Woody w/ Marmol. Replace Marmol with Gregg. Replace Dempster with The Unit.
  11. Puke. :banghead: I would be more accepting of this trade if Hendry wasn't replacing Woody with Gregg - that's absurd. Now let's throw a bunch of $$ and 4 years to a SP who lowered his era by an entire point for one season at the age of 32. What a joke. How much are we paying Marquis this year - 10mil?
  12. Would this qualify? "I love 20 year old kids who just recently found out about sabermetrics." If I was 15 years younger I'd take offense to that comment...
  13. I think Rasmus is being overvalued in these trade suggestions...
  14. I couldn't have said it better myself! :good: =D>
  15. He sure looked comfortable at the plate tonight. 5/5 2R 5RBI 1 dong off Pedro, another off Rincon!
  16. It definitely appears like he's lost at the plate, but he was very successful in Japan - did they never throw him anything on the outside part of the plate or offspeed? That doesn't seem very likely... I'd think a more likely scenario is that he's been unable to hit those pitches the last half of this year because he's pressing to much.
  17. B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L
  18. I'm speechless... Z!!!!!!!!!! \:D/  =D> :clapping:
  19.
  20. The Mad Hungarian and McLaughlin won't shut up about Harden's durability and velocity. It's very annoying...
  21. I can't help but think that he skipped the MRI on purpose because he was super pissed about something the Dr. told him - like maybe he'll more than likely be missing a significant amount of time?
  22. We shouldn't have a problem with Karstens on Monday. When we met up last he benefited greatly from our cold bats.
  23. I think mine went down that exact same path, too...
