  1. so what is the consensus around here of Dempster's performance today?
  2. Does this really have to be posted/asked/mentioned every page? Uhh... isn't this a thread devoted to discussing a rumored Brian Roberts deal? Yeah, and if a deal were done, I don't think anyone would need to ask nolan. :-s
  3. Does this really have to be posted/asked/mentioned every page? Uhh... isn't this a thread devoted to discussing a rumored Brian Roberts deal?
  4. I'm not a fan of Hendry either, but this is a pathetic and inaccurate rant.
  5. If the O's are getting Bailey in a package deal in return for Bedard, I'd think Bailey would be the focal point of that package. Why would they then send Bailey back to us because we're giving them Pie? We're not the only ones that know Bailey > Pie.
  6. Too bad it's not the old Tejada trade...Prior for Tejada and Bedard... I think there's a misconception that that trade was actually on the table for the Cubs to discuss. The O's wanted Prior for Tejada, straight up. It was Hendry that was insisting on Bedard's inclusion and the O's refusal to do this was essentially why a deal never got done. At least, that's how I remember it. Just thought I should point that out. That's how I remember it as well....
  7. Murton really has value. I wish he would play here, but I get why they are dealing him. He'll likely be part of the package that lands Hendry Brian Roberts. I'd prefer him and Gallagher go toward landing us Blanton, and Pie and Hill and EPatt land us Roberts and Bedard, and Dempster and Marshall and Derosa land us Burnett. (Just listing some of the rumors in this thread!) Imagine, if you can... Zambrano Bedard Burnett Lilly Blanton  =D> \:D/ :pig:   That could theoretically work. Yeah, it could, though it would empty the farm, and would still leave us short two OF. (A CF and a 4th OF) But, heck, with that rotation, an NL Pennant would seem to be virtually assured. Virtually assured? How about this rotation: Prior Wood Maddux Zambrano Clement
  8. I like Burnett alot, however, he's a constant DL headache. Do you remember all the negative publicity and badmouthing that went on last season? He claimed he was hurt, Jays said he wasn't and needed to get out there and pitch... If it means we're dumping Marquis, however, get it done Jimbo!
  9. There is nobody affiliated with baseball I despise more than Littlefield. He ruined the Pirates and put $$ in his pocket, not the team. He represents everything bad in baseball. Why in the hell is this guy even considered for anything? How about giving Matt Morris all that money after passing on Wieters in the draft because he couldn't afford him? What kind of advice is he gonna offer - it's obvious he can't provided financial advice or player evaluation.
  10. There is absolutely no way the Twins deal Santana to the Cubs and don't get Pie and Hill (and more players) in return. Marquis is garbage - even if we paid his salary the Twins wouldn't want him.
  11. Having seen almost every 07 cardinal game, and all cub games not on comcast, I can say that Pujols is not on par with Lee defensively. Lee looked a little worse this year on routine plays, and Pujols looked all-around more comfortable on the field and has improved significantly. However, Pujols can't get to near as many balls as Lee can. I think Lee made Aram look better than he really is - and Pujols made Rolen look a little worse. My 2 cents....
  12. This isn't true. They have a top 5 payroll, no? yup... 1 Yankees $195,229,045 2 Red Sox $143,526,214 3 Mets $117,915,819 4 White Sox $109,680,167 5 Angels $109,251,333 6 Dodgers $108,704,524 7 Mariners $106,516,833 8 Cubs $99,937,000 9 Tigers $95,180,369 10 Orioles $95,107,807
  13. His minor league #'s are great, but I was unimpressed with the 14ER in 14.2 innings at the big league level this year.
  14. I can't think of a bigger disaster than Stoney as G.M. He would turn this team into the Pirates...
  15. I though Webb had great stuff for the first few innings - but he faded fast. He left alot of pitches up in the zone, and we couldn't capitalize - stranding multiple runners at 2nd base. We lost the game last night because Lou was playing for Game 4 - a game that we might not even get a chance to see.
  16. Lou is my favorite manager (even loved him in his playing days) and I was ecstatic when he came to the Cubs. He IS the guy to take this team all the way...I just hope it's this year.
  17. I think some of these Theriot comparisons are a bit off. His #'s at the moment are skewed from his major slump in the month of September. At the end of August, Theriot's line: .281 .341 .367 .707 Those numbers are not close to Izturis, or the 250 less AB's than Theriot he brought to the table that would've adjusted his numbers towards the pathetic side even more.
  18. I don't exactly see what the big gripe with Floyd is. Granted, he's gotten older and it's shown, especially on defense. But we didn't sign him to a contract to be an everyday OF'er. And for the $$ we gave him, this is what he's done for us this year... 76/262 .290 avg .367 obp 7 HR 38 Runs 42 RBI Aside from the lack of pop, those #'s aren't too shabby. I can think of many previous Cub players making the $$ we gave him that didn't produce even close to that level.
  19. First, the Cubs have only made it to the postseason 11 in the last 99 years. According to my calculations, that's once every 9 years. One could argue that they've made it 1/5 years recently; then I would argue small sample size. I understand the concept, but what makes you think if we lose this year it will be any different than the other 98 years? AND, what will make this offseason different than last year when they addressed this problem and spent millions of dollars?
  20. I guess the rest of us plan on not dying before next October. They spent a fortune in the offseason for this exact reason - to get us to the postseason. And once we get close, now you want the team to tank so we'll have a better team in the future? This is the kinda logic only a tortured soul like a Cubs fan could conjure up.
