  1. i will always remember two things from that game: 1. griffey's bright white smile sticking out from the bottom of that pile. 2. the look at mattingly's face. i wanted to cry and i was 13 at the time. and to pour salt on the wound, the yankees won it all a year later...AFTER he retired. mattingly was great...even though he never shaved off those sideburns.
  2. as a matter of fact, pete rock was in chicago over the weekend doing a show. forgot where, though...zentra, perhaps? cl smooth is a nickname i have because of my initials and i'm also a fan of the duo. the song puts a smile on my face everytime i hear it. the sax sample just kills it. p.s. if you ever heard the original sample source from where that sax sample comes from, you will be in awe in how pete rock found a dope sample from such a crappy tune.
  3. maybe i'm putting this in the wrong forum. if it is, please feel free to move it to the forum where it belongs... i moved from illinois to brooklyn in june of '05. i bought the mlb.tv package and the mlbradio service to keep up with the cubs since i'm not in illinois anymore. my question is this...if there's any NYC cub fans on this board, do you know of any good bars/hangouts for cub fans in or around manhattan or brooklyn? it'd be good for me to find a place where i can watch the cubs with my fellow cub fans and not have to answer questions like "so what's the deal with that bartman guy?" from yankee fans. thanks.
  4. and on the subject of the 2003 playoff media, i remember reading jay marrioti's articles throughout september and october. it seemed like every 3 or 4 days, he would change his opinion on the cubs. it just showed how big of a tool he really was...take 4 of 5 over the cardinals? cubs are awesome! starting shawn estes in one of the biggest games of the year? dusty and company are a bunch of idiots. estes throws a shutout over the reds? he's a gamer who's invaluable to the cubs pitching staff. it's like flip a coin with that guy, but that's common knowledge nowadays (and back then).
  5. the "sleep" i got after game 6 was one of the worst sleeps i've ever had in my life. never in my 23 years have i lost sleep over a baseball game until then. the feeling of "only this team..." was thought that fateful day. on the plus side, i was at game 2, which was a day before my 21st birthday. and what an early birthday present it was. the mob outside wrigley after the game was absolutely insane. thousands of people in the streets yelling "go cubs go!" and beer flowing everywhere. and the dude dressed up as the ivy was hilarious and classic at the same time. i miss those times.
