  1. we can't just chalk it up as a bad outing? when prior comes back and has a bad game, will people say that he must be hurt or "this is the new prior we'll be seeing?" wood pitched decent in his last outing. i just don't understand how people can't say he had a bad outing...there seems to be a knee-jerk reaction whenver wood has a bad game where a few cats say "well, he must be hiding an injury..." or "here comes a trip to the DL..." are we all that conditioned whenever wood pitches bad that we think the worst is going to happen? i think some of you are jumping the gun on this...if he goes on the DL, i'll eat my words, but i think we all need to take a step back and see how he pitches his next time out.
  2. kerry's in the dugout going "what took you so long, guys?!!"

  4. how's the weather by wrigley? i'm flying in tonight and going to the game tomorrow...just curious to see if it's clearing up or not.
  5. i'll be at the game on saturday. i don't know what i'm rooting harder for...no rain or the cubs to score more than 1 run. p.s. happy 100 posts.
  6. he's had freakouts like this before. remember, this is the same owner who wrote a letter to new york city apologizing for his team losing the '81 world series to the dodgers. he'll praise arod in a few days and everything will be all hunky-dory.
  7. "don't liiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiieeeeeeee!" sorry, couldn't resist.
  8. to play devil's advocate...didn't we all say that about chris carpenter in '04 and '05?
  9. that's how i feel. at first he was coming back because of a bad viral infection over the offseason, then "all of a sudden" his shoulder is bothering him, now he's got the craps. dude, just take some pepto and get back out there! i hope he's not turning into a mental midget when it comes to aches and pains.
  10. My astronomy professor probably won't, being as she's Indian. But I'll skip class anyway. what?! indians don't watch baseball?! http://homepage.mac.com/ibook238/.Pictures/apu-mets.jpg the ny mets are his favorite squadren!
  11. *thread hi-jack* dj shadow is from davis, california. thus, davis is cool in my book. */thread hi-jack*
  12. i didn't think it was that big of a deal. sure, that should've been jacque's ball to catch, but the whole flip thing made me laugh a little bit. even after neifi caught the ball, jones was still looking around for the ball and all of a sudden he looks back and sees the ball still the air and neifi catch it. more like neifi just messing with jones on a very close play. nothing more, nothing less.
  13. there's a story about rick monday and the flag-burning game in one of the 2001 media guides that you can purchase when you get a scorecard. it was a really good interview with monday...i'll see if i can find it and possibly scan and post the article itself.
  14. every team has more than one of these types of games throughout the season. it just happens. hopefully they come out swinging tomorrow when maddux is pitching.
  15. never known any addicts, huh? it has nothing to do with that. i can understand to a point on where he's coming from, though...when i get my tax return back, buying some crack isn't the first thing that comes to my mind when i think about how i'm going to spend it. even from an athelete's perspective, you'd think they would know better than to use HARD drugs like that before OR after their career is finished. i hope he finds help and is able to kick the addiction.
  16. ken griffey jr. broke his wrist crashing into a wall back in '95 and he's fine...when he's not pulling his hamstring or messing up his knees. his swing is fine. i believe that lee will be a little cold when he comes back from the DL, but i would be surprised to see any lingering wrist problems for the remainder of his career.
  17. it happened in game 3 of the nlds. check the article here: http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/chc/news/chc_gameday_recap.jsp?ymd=20031004&content_id=562456&vkey=ds2003game&fext=.jsp
  18. that happened in the NLDS in '03. karros was playing in the NLCS. nothing broke.
  19. karros's arm didn't break on that play with robert fick. man, what a cheap shot that was, though...
  20. like another poster said, no team in their right mind would do a trade like this so early in the season. the cubs will use a minor leaguer and use the bench to fill lee's role and see what happens. i'm giving this entire situation about a month before i start worrying. does it suck? yeah, but i'm not going to get all up in arms about it until i see how the entire cubs team handles the situation. now more than ever does aramis ramirez need to step up and take a leadership role for this team. be "the man," so to speak in derrek's absense. he has the offensive skills, that's for sure, and that's what most of us are concerned about. have a 3-4-5 of walker, ramirez and barrett and the cubs should be alright until lee gets back. barring any goofy setbacks like falling out of a bunkbed or getting his hand caught in a toilet, wood should be back in 2-3 weeks and prior not too long after that. the next few weeks should be an good indication on if and how the cubs will respond to this situation. and with that i say GO CUBS.
  21. the score has been wrong on many occassions. this is the same radio station that said pudge rodriguez was signing a deal with the cubs during the '03 offseason. i feel like i could get a better sports news update from mancow's morning madhouse with al roker jr.
  22. for the record, i didn't say anything about the avatar. :) it's all good.
  23. i was at this game back in '01 and it had the craziest ending i've ever seen, either on tv or in person. i uploaded the espn baseball tonight highlights over at youtube.com so y'all can check it out. enjoy. anyone else remember this game?
  24. i believe you're talking about "c'mon ride the train" by the quad-city dj's? the song was popular back in '96, i believe. they also play "back in love again" by ltd. a personal favorite of mine, indeed.
  25. billy martin with the 1980 oakland a's. he pretty much destroyed all 5 starters' careers. they led the majors with 94 complete games (93 were by the starting 5).
