  1. most of the people i work with are non-cubs fans (read: yankee fans), so they don't have any idea.
  2. i took the day off from work. aiming for the brewers series right before 4th of july...only time where i can get off of both work and night school/audio college. i'm psyched! :D
  3. izzy will take a line drive off his arthritic shoulder or elbow and land on the DL quicker than you can imagine. i really don't see him being healthy the entire season.
  4. so what time will we find out whether z or the cubs won this chess match?
  5. but that's what makes a baseball cap a baseball cap! until last summer, i hadn't washed my cubs hat for close to 6 years! my girlfriend finally got tired of my hat(s) smelling like a jockey strap, so i threw it in the washing machine and 3 washes later, the smell was gone! sweat marks are still there, so i look at them as like rings on a tree stump...tells me how long i've had the cap. the sweat would help me break in a baseball cap...an hour's worth of mowing the lawn would give the hat enough sweat to form to my head and always have that "snug" fit that would last a lifetime!
  6. prior's starts during the last two months of the '03 season, including the playoffs, have to be some of the most dominant pitching performances i've ever seen. he just made pitching look so easy...overpowering batters like that. i miss that mark prior. i wish he would come back.
  7. and accuscore was the only one who got it right? yes, the computer simulator was the one who got the prediction correct.
  8. http://farm1.static.flickr.com/100/365171844_106e6cba69_o.jpg espn analysts fail at life. computer wins lol
  9. not to thread hijack, but i bought an industrial-strength plunger and a snake. the new plunger is all it took...5 or 6 tries and she was unclogged. the bears/saints game will proceed without any interruptions. and for the record, she is buying pizza and drinks for the game because of this ordeal. :D 8-)
  10. my girlfriend came home from SF last night and dropped a log in our toilet. now it's clogged. pray to the gods that i get this situation resolved before the game starts. i don't want to be fixing toilets while the bears are duking it out with the saints!
  11. I hope we fire Lee or at least dock him his pay. That lazy bum. your argument doesn't fit with what he said. lee was hurt for four months last year and played in 158 and 161 games the previous two years as a cub. prior hasn't pitched in 30 starts since '03 (21 starts in '04, 27 starts in '05, 9 starts in '06). derrek lee has been much healthier than mark prior over the course of three seasons.
  12. Punching Judy? it's the spinoff from judging amy.
  13. we all know about the blood clot in the lung(s), but what is the official word on his playing career and also his spot on the cubs roster? if he's sitting out for 6-12 months, can the cubs just waive him and open up a roster spot? sounds terrible in principle since he had no control over the clots, but if he's just wasting space on the roster (you can insert your glendon rusch wasting a roster spot joke here), why keep him?
  14. And then we would have had about 100 pages on what a jerk Hendry is for letting someone outbid him on Soriano. I'm not happy about the contract, but Hendry (and Piniella) decided he was the man that they needed and he went out and got him. It certainly doesn't look like the money has hindered him from signing other players. Low OBP, high SLG. OBP isn't everything. It's all about how many runs Soriano creates, both by driving guys in and being driven in. Typical leadoff hitters are next to worthless getting guys in. That's a huge waste of baserunners. Soriano is much better than some punching Judy who can get on base at a .360+ clip. i rather have soriano hitting somewhere in the middle of the order to utilize that high SLG instead of sitting in the 1 spot where he can hit 20 solo home runs and drive the imaginary cesar izturiz on 2nd base home for an imaginary run.
  15. i must say...izturiz's projected OPS is making me horny. :x
  16. i believe he was just picked off waivers by the cowboys.
  17. why did kenny williams trade for a player he previously had the year before? didn't he do the same thing a few years back with robby alomar and carl everett? if you like the guy, keep him the first time around! :?
  18. braves? astros? springfield atoms?
  19. $15 million per year? That is crazy. I think it's even crazier that the Astros would hear that and counter. i don't think the astros have any other choice. besides oswalt and possibly backe, who else is intimidating in that rotation? they need another anchor in that staff and pettite is/was their man to do that. with clemens (again) possibly out of the picture (again), their starting five is extremely weak. it's that or dump the money they would've spent on pettite and clemens the year before on some second-tier starter like meche or lilly. speaking of salaries and the astros...how much do they have available to spend this offseason? we all know the contract given to carlos lee, but with bagwell's contract officially off the books and however much they spent on clemens last year (i doubt he comes back) and also the $16+ million on pettite, what's the cash left over for free agents?
  20. this thread depresses me. i was at game 2...the night before my 21st birthday. and what a present! never seen so many people outside of wrigley field in cubbie blue...and jovial! i've been a cub fan since birth and that is, without question, the greatest feeling i ever felt being a cubs fan. just to see all those people around the chicagoland area and around the US (perhaps the WORLD?!) root for the cubs and cheer them on. game 6 and 7 were slugs to the chest...agon should have played that ground ball cleanly. how ironic is it that our gold-glove caliber shortshop botches it when we needed it the most. again, dusty should shoulder most of the blame because of bad managerial decisions. what could of been... :(
  21. they mention this in geoge f. will's men at work book, as well. the book itself is a good read, although a little dated (1990). he interviews tony larussa, orel hershiser, tony gwynn and cal ripken jr about managing a game, pitching, hitting and defense, respectively. one of the first books that i've read from that time period that's not a bill james-related book that mentions OBP and slugging percentage. a good quote in the book is where either rene lacheman or jim lefebvre, who are larussa's coaches on the a's at the time, talk about runners "clogging the basepaths." it made me think of someone who we all hold dear to our hearts...funny that in one hand, they talk about OBP and SLG percentage in a good light but then bring up a crap theory like that.
  22. anyone notice the flub on the front page of cubs.com where it says that dawson came to the cubs via a trade? seriously...who writes this stuff?!
  23. i always thought that pete rose did the same thing just to break cobb's hit record. his last four seasons were crap, imo. and were pitchers trying to deny him the hit record? if you look at his stats, he has 86 walks in '85. he had not received that many walks since '79 with 95. he was averaging around 40-60 walks between '79 and '86.
  24. i don't get why people hate on this, either. bands think it's cool that you wear their merchandise to shows...hell, it's a great way for them to get revenue, for one.
