  1. this is about 12 blocks from where i work. i can see the smoke from our 4th floor window. supposedly the plane hit either the 10th, 20th or 30th floor of the building. either way, hope there were as few casualties as possible.
  2. i don't know about other fans of the game, but i sure as hell do not drop $$$ on baseball tickets to see a manager. i go to see good baseball, my favorite players and (perhaps) a cubs win...i don't go to the ballpark to check out joe torre or dusty baker sitting in the dugout with their poker face on and wait for them to make a pitching change.
  3. I'm not sure Dusty will be there. good point. if i were dusty, i would at least show my face and try to explain myself on what the hell happened these last few years and perhaps try to sell himself for a new managerial job (wherever that may be).
  4. what's the over/under on dusty saying "dude" and bringing up neifi and his "horses?"
  5. if neifi were to be traded to the tigers and somehow win a world series, that would leave a REALLY, REALLY, REALLY bitter taste in my mouth. yes, neifi is horrible, but for him to leave the cubs (who are horrific) and go to a contender like the tigers and possibly go to the world series...wow. of all players, too...couldn't the royals be of interest? or the devil rays?
  6. i remember herzog was on the dan patrick show a few years ago promoting his book. patrick was trying to get him to answer a few questions about the book and herzog was being very stubborn about the whole thing. after a few questions, herzog starts yelling at patrick and hangs up the phone on him. dude is senile.
  7. hey aramis fan, nice job with the video. i liked the way you synched up the wgn radio broadcast feed with the cubs/rockies game. being a major in sound, i think you did very well. :) is there a way you could make another copy with just the announcers voices in it? i dig the "go cubs go" song, but the announcers calls give the video a little more energy if you know what i mean. i was at three of those games in the video...the cubs/reds 11-10 game (sosa and alou back to back home runs), the cubs/a's game (walker's superman slide into home for the winning run) and the aforementioned cubs/rockies game. i got goosebumps watching this...i miss winning cubs baseball. :( and on a side note, i unfortunately do not have the farnsworth/wilson fight on tape or on my computer. what i can do, though, is sometime this week, i could encode game #163 from '98 to my computer and send it to someone who is interested in it (or at least the ending and celebration). let me know and i'll see what i can do.
  8. if i recall correctly, the bullpen as a whole fell apart. tapani had a bad second half, as well...i believe he started the season 8-1 and ended the season under .500 and retired. the cubs also had a rotating cf platoon of roosevelt brown and corey patterson at the time. mcgriff was playing 1st base and not producing enough offense as we all hoped he would. sammy was being sammy, too. i think the rbi differential between sammy and ricky guttierrez was something like 90-100 rbis...and ricky was second on the team in rbi's, too! they lost 8 in a row during may/june, then proceeded to win 12 straight right after the losing streak. man, that was an enjoyable year of baseball, although the ending wasn't what we wanted it to be.
  9. http://www.cinemabianca.com/tunes/cubsrockies.mp4 and there you go, ladies and gentlemen.
  10. i have the segment in an .mp4 format (viewable in quicktime, itunes and your video ipod). i can send it to your email address if you want. if you have gmail, that would be better since it can handle large attachments (i believe the file is 25-35 MB). let me know...i'll be more than happy to send it to anyone who wants it. EDIT: what i'll do is this...when i get home tonight, i'll upload it to my girlfriend's website and post the link here for anyone who wants it. i'll keep it there for a week so it gives everyone who wants it enough time to download it. sound good? p.s. one of these days, i'll get around to converting maddux's 300th win, the 2003 nl central clincher, game 163 from '98 and the '84 nl east clincher to .mp4 for everyone. p.p.s. did anyone ever find out where one could purchase the sandberg game?
  11. thom brennaman is about as "anti-cubs" as you can get. if zambrano figured out the cure for aids during the rain delay, brennaman would've talked it down like it was no big deal. i think he's still irked that he didn't stick around too long on WGN. anyone know the details behind him leaving?
  12. i don't think maddux is traded by the deadline. with all due respect to maddux, i just don't see how a team in the pennant race could trade ANYTHING for a guy who is 40 years old, an era either above or close to 5 and has a 7-10 record. how much is he owed for the rest of the year? 3-4 million? i dunno...i don't see it happening.
  13. wonder what his blood/alcohol level was...
  14. i believe that game was in pittsburgh and wasn't that a 1-0 or 2-1 game? i remember it being VERY close.
  15. murton marshall cedeno (he'll get better with time...and hopefully he'll learn some patience at the plate) z maddux (always a professional) barrett lee ramirez eyre howry dempster wood (for all his injuries, all he wants to do is pitch and help the cubs win...i can't fault him for that) all the young players walker got on my last nerve with throwing ronny under the bus the other day.
  16. Didn't 1997 start with 17 straight loses...that was fun to be disapointed and giving up and the team hadn't even won 1 game. only thing worth watching that year was sandberg's quest for the all-time HR mark by a 2nd baseman and he achieved that in april. that and just watching ryno play during his final season and (ultimately) jim riggleman benching him in favor of some other dudes.
  17. 1994 was really bad, but 2000 takes the cake. i stopped watching after shane andrews and rondell white were deemed "key pick-ups." remember when rondell slid into second base head first and dislocated his shoulder about a week or two after acquiring him? good times.
  18. this post is so laughable. you're kidding me, right? "wow, i hate the yankees cuz those rap guys wear their hats!" lil jon is from atlanta...could be possibly be a braves fan or is that too much out of the question since he's a hip-hop artist? big boi and andre 3000 from outkast wear braves jerseys and hats...do they know that they are in the cellar? what an absurd question to ask. for the record, there are chicago hip-hop artists who have worn cubs clothing. twista has worn cubs jerseys in the past and so has chali-2na from the jurassic 5. diverse has also worn cubs clothing at one point or another. what a silly reason to hate a team...
  19. easiest thing to do is to park at montrose harbor. take lake shore drive north to the montrose harbor exit. park there and walk from montrose to sheridan. take a left on sheridan...it'll take you right to wrigley field. the walk from sheridan to wrigley is maybe 7-8 blocks (10-15 minute walk). if you don't mind the walk, it's awesome...plus it's FREE. if you don't want to walk, hail a cab and they'll take you to wrigley for 5-7 dollars.
  20. gotta add a few more to this list... * remember those commercials back in '96 or '97 when the cubs were talking about their favorite things? mark grace said metallica, brian mcrae said long walks on the beach, sammy said (and i quote) "i like to hit de home run!"...but the kicker was frank castillo. he said "puppy dogs!" i just about laughed my arse off at that. hilarious. then they asked about their favorite baseball moment and they show all the cubs itching their chins and grace ends the commercial saying "i haven't had mine yet." the text blurb at the end was the icing on the cake, though... "chicago cubs: we're working on it." looking back now, they should bring back that commercial and use it with this team. * frank castillo's wife was an adult film star. she was in a video once talking about how her husband was "a pitcher for the chicago cubs" and how they got down on the pitcher's mound before the game. frank got mad flak for that on the radio during his tenure with the cubs. * the god-awfulness that was gary scott. if you have a dictionary near you and looked up "hyped to hell," there would be a picture of him. so, so bad. dubbed him as the "next ron santo," but was everything but. * kevin foster. always liked him. didn't know what you were going to get each start, but i always thought he had skills but didn't have enough willpower to control them. i wonder what he's doing nowadays.
  21. don't know if this was posted yet or not, but check out the cubs entry in wikipedia, specifically the first paragraph... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chicago_cubs i had a good laugh after reading that.
  22. * Brant Brown dropped the fly ball in Milwaukee? watching the game at home and having my stomach turn. was it the same day or a few days later when neifi hit the home run against the giants? i remember flipping off the cubs game that day and switching on sportscenter just in time to see the baseball tonight update with neifi's home run going over the fence. i just about pooped my pants in excitement. i was a junior in high school at this time. wow, what a few days! * The 1994 World Series was canceled? i barely remember watching the last cubs game of '94. i think they were on a west coast road trip or were about to go on one. * The Atlanta Braves and the Cincinnati Reds were in the NL West? i remember the cubs winning the nl east. * Shawon Dunston would charge the mound just about everytime he was hit by a pitch? i just tossed an old vhs tape from '95 where shawon got into someone's face after they slid hard into second base. dunston flipped off the runner's helmet with his hand and everything...i miss shawon and his 300-mph throws to second and first. *Harry Caray would call Andre Dawson "Andre Rogers"? i miss harry, period. even when the cubs were atrocious, harry would find some silver lining like this gem: "hey, the moon's orange! it's gonna be a hot day tomorrow!" * On 8/8/88 the first night game at Wrigley was rained out? i watched that with my family way back when. i remember the cubs going slip 'n sliding on the tarp during the rain delay, too. * 30 homers was considered a "monster" year? barry larkin won the '95 mvp with numbers close to corey patterson's '03 mid-season numbers. that shows you how much has changed in MLB in 10 years... * Marla Collins was the hottest woman in sports? i wonder what she's up to now... i also remember when frank dipino and mark grace getting into a brawl, being bummed when shawon dunston missed a ton of the season back in the summer of '91, ryno breaking his hand in spring training in '93, ryno retiring for the first time in '94 (one of the papers headlines wrote "another no. 23 hangs it up"), the wild-card fight in '95, the highs and lows of '98, the god-awfulness of the '99 and '00 club, the hope of the 2001 team (roosevelt brown!), hating will clark because of the '89 playoffs and much much more. this team is like a forever pimple on my body...they'll never go away.
  23. i am a man of my word... does anyone have a word-eating emoticon? i guess this will do... http://www.dragon-warrior.com/Zelda/pacman-tongue.gif
  24. You really think it's unusual for folks to assume the worst about a player who takes trips to the DL like we take trips to the grocery store? Wow. a player with 2-3 rehab starts in the minors and 4 starts after coming off the DL. i understand his history fully, but all i'm saying is give him some time to get back into the groove, that's all.
