  1. Canes-Pens, eh? I'm sure that'll be riveting.
  2. At this rate, the inning is going to get capped off with a Theriot GS or something.
  3. I think if you asked anyone to predict the 2009 Cubs opening day bullpen on the day after the Cubs were eliminated from the 2008 playoffs, I'm pretty sure nobody would have come up with Kevin Gregg, Luis Vizcaino, David Patton, and Aaron Heilman.
  4. I think theirs was the 4th series to end, after Detroit, Vancouver and Boston. Two of the series went 7, and Anaheim/SJ and Pittsburgh/Philly weren't decided until the next day.
  5. So, who had the Hawks as the first team to close out their second round series? :)
  6. Here's one for Bears fans: Starting QBs since the 1985 Super Bowl
  7. Here's a tough one: MLB Retired Numbers I got 60 of them, and all the Cubs, at least.
  8. I fear a serious letdown, at least early in the game tonight. I just hope they come out as strong as they did in Game 5.
  9. I don't know that I'd put MLB on par with the NFL. I love baseball, but the NFL is just lapping other sports in interest right now, I think. Maybe in Tennessee. :) I put them on the same level because, for the most part, their seasons don't overlap, meaning the average sports fan can be completely dedicated to both MLB and NFL. Also, a lot of this tiering was in relation to its Olympic counterpart. MLB and NFL are pro sports that don't even have an Olympic counterpart they're so insignificant in comparison. NBA and PGA golf have Olympic counterparts, but certainly not important on the same level. NASCAR is a different beast altogether, and maybe it's more significant to the rest of the country than I'm thinking, but it's definitely not big around here.
  10. That kind of confirms something I've been saying for awhile: people like to say the NHL doesn't belong in the "Big Four," but the NBA is slipping itself. Really, it's more a series of several tiers: NFL MLB, college football NBA, college basketball NHL, golf, soccer Other niche sports I'm not sure where I'd put NASCAR in there, and I may be wildly wrong on a few placements, but the principle of tiers is sound, imo. We're talking US only and not globally, right? If so, I'd probably go more along the lines of NFL, MLB NBA, College Football, College Basketball, PGA Golf when TIger is involved NHL, NASCAR, World Cup Soccer, Olympics MLS, MMA, AFL, Rodeo, Poker, PBA, WNBA, etc
  11. Got 122 in 8:39. Had 121 about 6 minutes in, but forgot about the Memphis Grizzlies for a good 2 minutes, along with the rest of the world.

    Freel

Well, at least the Cubs actually have a viable backup 3B now.
  13. They were 27th of 32 teams. Averaged about 28 minutes per game. Had at least a couple games where it was about 22 minutes.
  14. I'm kind of hoping the defense will be improved simply because they shouldn't have to play 40+ minutes per game, assuming the offense can use more of the clock.
  15. You could argue that, sure. But people tried saying that last year too. The Bears, with Cutler, are much better than they were last year. I'd give the edge to Minny, just because I anticipate a growing period with Cutler. Doesn't mean the Bears won't win it though. What's their to grow? It's not like getting a new QB is throwing off all the offensive chemistry. The team has had 3 different QBs start the majority of its games the last 3 years. And it's not like Cutler is inexperienced and will need a ton of time to learn the offense. He should be fine to run the entire playbook by opening day. And a lot of his success comes from extending plays anyway. If their is a growth period w/ Cutler the same can be said with Rosenfels or Favre, even with playing for Childress years ago. There, I only mention it because I've been particularly annoyed by it already several times today (not here).
  16. The Cubs had just won 4 in a row and were playing their 14th game in a row in a sequence of 20 straight without an off-day. Criticize perhaps giving all the regular right-handers the day off, but don't criticize the concept of the day off, or that the Cubs may as well have forfeited.

    Week 5

Well, you know, any time you get a chance to trade for a 37 yo catcher with a leg injury, you have to make it happen.

    Week 4

Sure, now Theriot hits a grand slam. :)
  19. Blood = flagrant. Except at the end of game 5, of course.
  20. I can watch this all day:
  21. The Bulls aren't a championship level team. However, they are very talented right now, and it seems oddly timed to mention no defense when the two biggest plays of last night's game were defensive plays (well, one was a defensive-offensive play).
  22. You know, watching that Hinrich layup again, it looks like Rondo got a piece of that on the way down.
  23. Yeah, Allen will go for 50 or something, and that's something the Bulls just can't overcome. Completely ignoring that Pierce and Davis fouled out... also, its in Boston... Celtics will win Yeah, the Bulls have been completely outclassed in Boston this series...
  24. Yeah, Allen will go for 50 or something, and that's something the Bulls just can't overcome.
  25. Please tell me Boston is out of TOs.
