  1. And your reasoning behind that is? No one would have beat the Lakers in the Finals with the way they were playing. Not Garnett's Boston team. Not Lebron. Not anyone. Please. Simply put, two tossup games go the other way, and this series is 3-2 Orlando heading back to LA. I imagine as time passes, this playoffs will be looked on as a "dominant" Laker run through the playoffs.
  2. Well sure, but weren't you excited when the Staleys put together a pro football team in Chicago that you could follow at the ripe young age you were back then? :)

    Week 11

You need to shore up that defense. :)
  4. I have a side bet going on this week with a coworker as to which number will be higher: the number of goals the USMNT scores in pool play, or the number of goals Spain allows in pool play. I have the US, because I think Spain may just shut out their pool.
  5. Yeah, that's really weird. Even if we concede that the US is probably not as good as their ranking, they're still likely a better squad than South Africa, New Zealand and Iraq.
  6. Cribbed from other parks. And yet, still unique and signature to Wrigley. The experience of sitting out in the sun, drinking beer and watching the sporting event with other fans in non-assigned seating? That's duplicated all over the world in almost every sport. It's difficult to describe if you haven't done it, but the experience in the bleachers at Wrigley has absolutely not been duplicated all over the world in almost every sport. It's truly a unique experience. Almost every park does this. Almost every park has flags denoting the current standings and whether the most recent game was a win? I must have missed that elsewhere. Wrigley also cribbed this. Technically, yes, it started as more of a Harry Caray thing. What it's evolved into, though, is something unique (well, it was). And my point was that there are more discernible unique positives than you initially let on.
  7. Over the past three weeks or so, the offense has been just abysmal. So much, in fact, that the Cubs canned the hitting coach yesterday, despite the fact that he practically turned the offense from the worst in the NL to the best in 2 years. So, how can the Cubs fix it? Is patience the right prescription? Will Soriano, Soto, Bradley, Fontenot and Lee be better than they've shown? Will Ramirez be able to come back strong enough to carry the offense over the last two months? Will Theriot and Fukudome be able to keep up the production they've shown in the early part of the year? Is the bench a huge part of the problem?
  8. Feel free to list something awesome about Wrigley Field not covered under those three. (I'll throw in day baseball as well, although that's not technically part of the field). I like going to Wrigley, but with apologies to Dusty, it is what it is. I'd probably add: - Ivy covered walls - The Bleachers experience (is it the only park where you can only get to the bleachers if you specifically have a ticket for them?) - The rooftop views (despite the recent commercialization of such, still a unique feature) - The scoreboard - The flags (divisional, retired numbers, pennants) - Other than the obstructed view seats, every seat allows a great view of the field. - Near complete lack of distractions from the game (although the annoying "races" from the new center screen are annoying). - The seventh inning stretch (cribbed by almost every other park these days) - The Chicago dogs (not the regular ballpark dogs, get the actual Chicago dogs) Sure, it's not perfect, and it's probably getting close to needing either a huge renovation or complete replacement, but it has many unique features that you either don't see anywhere else or have been copied just about everywhere else because it worked so well.
  9. http://myespn.go.com/blogs/nflnation/0-8-79/Ultimate-Building-Blocks--NFC-North.html Apparently Jay Cutler lacks maturity and leadership, on account of what I can only assume is an inability to play defense.
  10. If ever there were a good year to win in Azteca...
  11. The rest of you guys draft minor leaguers. I'll draft a baseball player. I'm pretty thin on upper management, and some of these kids look like they have the tools to succeed! Like this Brett Jackson guy.
  12. If it's not fair that I draft first 3 times in a row, we could do it according to the current record/point total at the end of this week.
  13. Looking back, I think it'd be pretty easy to fashion an all-'stache lineup for the Astros. Derek Bell comes to mind as another legendary 'stache.

    Week 9

Dumping Chris Duncan mid week for Michael Bourn in an effort to use someone that actually plays. Fair or not? Juan said yes so I made the move, but if there's enough opposition I'll just bench Bourn the rest of the week.
  15. My brain is melting.
  16. Pete Prisco somehow managed to find a way to do statistical ratings based on completely arbitrary analysis: http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/story/11812689
  17. Perhaps they have the most wins because they have the most teams, and most opportunity to win. Don't they also have the most losses? Who cares about a battle for 1st on June 1? The central has 2 crappy teams and 4 teams basically playing .500 ball the last couple weeks. Are you serious? The relation to wins and losses does'nt change if the division had 2 teams or 100. We have the most wins because we have won more games over the East and West.. And the other cental teams. I gotta figure you been up all nite or something. The win and loss % in the central is allways 50%....for every win there is a loss. Duh. We have more wins because of the games we play OUT of the division. Now go get some sleep! Again, the NL Central has the most wins because they have the most teams. If you mean to say or imply something else, then do so. A 6 team division averaging 25 wins is going to have more overall wins than a 5 team division averaging 27 wins.
  18. The NL Central has the most wins in the majors overall, with 152. The most losses in the majors overall? Also the NL Central, with 144. However, the AL East is 135-123, for a .523 winning percentage, while the NL Central is 152-144 for a .514 winning percentage.
  19. I would probably say that Monfils is going to be a decent favorite to win this one. He can run down any shot and a real good on clay. Of course if Roddick has his serve going he can win with almost that alone. Either way this is probably going to be a long match. Monfils up a set and a break in the second. Make that two breaks in the second. Roddick is getting smoked.
  20. Federer dropped the first two sets this morning before rallying to beat unseeded Tommy Haas 6-7,5-7,6-4,6-0,6-2. Roddick has yet to play, but if he can beat 11th seed Frenchman Gael Monfils, he'd play Federer next.
  21. Yeah, she was injured all last year and hasn't looked very good since she's been back (I mean, tennis-wise). She really has a good shot to make the semis, though, since Venus Williams was knocked out of her quarter.
  22. Also, on the women's side, an unseeded Maria Sharapova is through to the quarters with a 6-4, 0-6, 6-4 victory over the 25 seed.
  23. i'm actually hoping that roddick wins it, which would be way more amazing. With Djokovic and Nadal out, I'd say this would be Roddick's best shot at one, except that he's in the wrong half of the bracket.
  24. I figure we're overdue for one of these anyway, but... Currently, Rafa Nadal is losing in the 4th round of the French Open to 23rd ranked Robin Soderling 2 sets to 1. The one set he did win was in a tiebreaker.
  25. I don't understand the Blanco hate. He actually is a good defensive SS, and currently the only healthy option to backup SS. He's not leading off, he's not playing every day, he's not killing the offense, the manager doesn't have an unhealthy adoration for him, and he isn't expected to be an all-star by anyone.
