  1. I thought the mock went well last year, just took a little longer than I hoped. I'll be in it. I'll pretty much take any team. Dallas, Carolina and Chicago were the most interesting teams for me.
  2. Maybe I am the only one, but I am a Bears fan who doesn't hate the Packers. I don't like them, but that burning hatred just isn't there. Now the Cowboys, there's a team that I hate. I probably dislike the Vikings more than the Pack as well. The Colts, too. Heck, there may be 10 teams I like less than the Pack. I'm similar. I respect the heck out of Favre, and don't really hate anybody currently associated with the team. The Cowboys are a much bigger villain. I wouldn't actually cheer for them or anything, but as things stand now, I think I'd rather see GB win than anybody else. Ditto. Of course if GB wins the Superbowl the NFL is fixed, because Favre will retire on top just like Golden boy, Elway.
  3. It is going to be interesting to see how teams use the knowledge that you don't need a franchise RB to succeed, countered by the Peterson ROY thing. Peterson may have made McFadden a few million this year. But I think most teams will be better served to wait to get RBs later. Of course, the Bears will probably be stupid and spend huge on Turner or something. I don't think the Bears are going to draft or sign a RB. And I think the reason is Peterson, not Benson. I think you will see a lot of competition for the #1 RB spot, with the end result being shared time. Garrett Wolfe got in some action late in the year, so the Bears have 3 experienced backs. It does sound like the Bears are aware of OL problems, I think they will allow Benson 1 more year, knowing they have Peterson (who was good all around) if he fails.
  4. Yeah, a lot of top 2 round RB talent and with teams having a lot of success with non-highly drafted RBs (see NYG and GB) and teams having had a lot of success with 2 RBs (see Dallas, Chicago and Indy 06), it will be interesting to see what happens with this draft.
  5. There's no way the Raiders are going to draft McFadden. They already have Justin Fargas (who had a very good year), LaMont Jordan and Dominic Rhodes. If I had to take a bet on who they are going to take - assuming they keep the 3/4 pick, whichever one they end up getting - I would bet on them taking a lineman, either offensive or defensive. Hopefully either Glenn Dorsey or Jake Long slips to the Raiders though I could see them taking Chris Long as well. EDIT: They also could use a good WR but there aren't any worth taking that early. Fargas is an unrestricted FA. Raiders want to keep him, but if he can be the featured guy for another team and the money is right....he'll be gone.
  6. You're right Boone is staying. I knew I saw something about him yesterday. I don't know why Jenkins is staying. He could go as early as 7 to the Patriots.
  7. At best? I'd say that Fukudome at worst replaces the RF production from last year. .293/.375/.419/.794 is not a slam dunk. Just some food for thought on Fukudome: http://www.projectprospect.com/fukudome-revisited/ I'll take that! I hope he doesn't hit 6th though. He needs to either hit 2 or in front of one of the big RBI guys (Soriano, Ramirez).
  8. I thought Boone declared yesterday.
  9. The Bulls are a mess right now. It's pretty sad when the Cubs are the Chicago team with the most optimism right now. Actually, the Blackhawks may give them a run for their money.
  10. That mock draft doesn't even have the correct order of draftees, as the Bears draft 14th, not 12th. If they reach on a QB in the first round with all the other more important holes they need to address, it'll be a catastrophe. That's because that site hasn't updated since December 20. It's odd because they usually update a few times during the season, than right after the regular season ends and the top of the draft order is known. It's possible they won't be updating any further. Most every mock draft is probably going to say Bears go QB in the first, and they might be right. But I don't want it to happen and I don't think they will do it. As raw said, there isn't a QB in the draft worth the spot or the cap hit he'd be guaranteed. Take somebody later, and take a QB every single year in the middle of the draft. Hey now, I said that...not raw! It sounds like he's returning for his senior year which sucks (but then again, everything indicated Slaton was returning until he declared yesterday). I really like Oher more than Clady (and I'm a big Clady fan). Really? I'm big on Clady. Oher's really good though, so I really hope he declares, because I see several scenarios where Clady is gone by 14.
  11. Carolina hasn't had a legit safety since Minter retired. Though, Chris Harris did well this year.
  12. I think he will close. I don't expect as good, but I think he has all the potential in the world. If you were the Falcons and the Pats offered you Maroney and the #7 pick for the #3 pick and say a 2nd or 3rd round pick would they do it. The Falcons should accept that. Get a RB, can still draft a QB (Ryan/Brohm) at 7 and get an extra pick. I think the Falcons would like to get a QB, but I don't think they will get one with McFadden on the board.
  13. I think I am out.
  14. I don't know that they were fabricated. They are winning because of a great offense, the best way for them to continue winning is a greater offense. McFadden would be a brilliant move for them, but it's not happening at #7.
  15. Felix has Cowboys written all over him. Be the HR back to go along with Marion Barber 3. Bears will NOT draft a QB in the 1st round. I think they will go OT, unless Phillips is there (which is not likely considering Denver and Carolina could use a safety and pick before the Bears)...or an outside shot of a WR like Malcolm Kelly.
  16. I know it will never happen, but Murton in left, Soriano at second and DeRosa at short, would dramatically improve our offense, and wouldn't downgrade our defense too much IMO. Imagine replacing Theriot's bat with Murton's That would give us two severely below-average defensive players, and they would be playing key positions. Plus, Murton is weak defensively and he would be replacing one of the best LF's in the game. It would definitely improve the offense, but I'm not sure if I'd do it at the beginning of the year. Defense was the Cubs' strength last year, and I'd rather first see if our offense will improve in other ways (Lee's power returning, better early numbers from Soriano, Fukodome) before we try that. Soriano is not one of the best LF in the game. He has an arm and speed, but nothing else. Have you seen the LFs in the NL? Off the top of my head (from 2007 season) Soriano is a better defender than: Alou, Burrell, Willingham, Diaz-ATL in the East. He's better than Bay, Duncan, Dunn, Jenkins/Mench, C. Lee in the Central. And he's better than Holliday, Gonzalez-LAD, Bonds in the West. And I can't think of the LFs in Wash, SD, and Arizona. Not that Soriano is a gold glover by any means, but he IS one of the best LFs defensively in baseball for whatever that is worth.
  17. KU Memphis UNC UCLA WSU Georgetown Duke Pitt(they will be healthy again) Tennesse Michigan State Dayton Xavier Wisconsin(they are always way underrated) Stanford hell you might not be the best team in Indiana, Butler But I feel you are a real good top 25 team. By season's end, if Gordon starts to take control of the team, I think you will be a borderline top 10. A couple of those teams are matchup problems (stanford immediately comes to mind), but I don't think any not in the 6 I named are better, including Xavier. I disagree. I think Tennesse and Duke would destroy you. You do know EJ would have 3 fouls about a minute into that Duke game, right? Yeah, pretty sure we would have 13 team fouls by the 1st TV timeout. IU matches up well vs. Duke though. IU vs. UT would be fun, though. And for the record, the ball should go into DJ White. He's a better player right now than Eric Gordon, because he's better at setting up his teammates.

  19. Did the Cubs make a move over the weekend that I am not aware of? There's no reason to expected increased production from SS. Theriot is going to play most of the time and more likely than not continue to perform at the low level he, and the rest of the SS crew, performed at in 2007. The Cubs SS hit .254/.309/.331 last year. That's probably the floor of what should be expected from Theriot/Cedeno. Man, was Izturis that bad?
  20. Yeah, Mike White can't finish at all. If he was 6'8", he'd be a star. But he's 6'6", wide, and can't jump. I don't think I've ever seen him dunk a ball. He is a great rebounder and a decent post defender.
  21. I agree, Big Ten officiating is ridiculously bad. I will agree that IU got the better of the calls, but then again, did have many more fouls called on them. I figured the game would go something like that. Was hoping we could put it away sooner. As for IU not being a top 10 team....name 10 teams better. Kansas, Memphis, UNC, UCLA are all clearly better. Washington St and Georgetown are pretty good, and probably better. But after that, I don't see how Michigan St, Tennessee, Duke or Texas A&M are any better than IU (the other top 10 teams in either poll). While they've only put up 2 solid halves vs. UK and SIU, they will grow more than any other team in the country the next 2 months. AJ Ratliff has only played 3 games in 10 months and hasn't got his shot back. Today was the first game all 5 guards in the rotation have played at the same time. If this team puts together a complete game on both ends of the floor, I think they can compete with anyone.....even the top 4.
  22. If you didn't mean you had to have speed, why bring it up? And you didn't say Peralta wasn't patient.....you said he struck out a lot. How was I supposed to determine that you meant patience, when you never mentioned it. People have used the strikeout issue against Adam Dunn, when he is clearly one of the most patient hitters in the game.
  23. None of this is true. - A couple years ago (2005), Aramis did go on the DL once, and I'll take any "prolonged slump" that still yields a .926 OPS. The year before that, Aramis was healthy all season and had the best year of his career. - 2006, the year DLee went down....maybe it's just me, but I don't see anywhere in the career highs for games played, HRs, RBIs, walks, and K/AB shows that Aramis gave up. - With Lee healthy last year, he came back to form....pretty much the exact same form he showed in 2006. .915 OPS in 07 vs. .913 in 06. -From your last statement, I take it that you think speeds and contact hitting wins games. Well, Cleveland sure disproved that by winning the toughest division in baseball, while being in the bottom 3 in the AL in steals and striking out 3rd most offensively. What about Philly and Colorado who struck out a ton? What about the Cubs and Red Sox who didn't steal enough bases to be in the top 1/2 of baseball?
