  1. Horrible first half by IU. Really disappointing considering the circumstances. Coppin St. played at Marquette last night, losing by nearly 50. Traveled by bus to Bloomington, arrived at 5 am this morning. Had their team meal at 8 am. And came out to shoot around at 10am. IU should have completely blew them off the floor early. 28-26 halftime lead. 45-20 second half really helped it looked better than it was for the first 20 minutes. I've always hated this particular game of the season. After finals week, no games for a week, limited practices, and most of the student body home for the holidays. Historically been a tough game for IU to get up for. DJ White with 21, 8, and 4 blocks, first non-double double in 7 games. Gordon was 2-13 from the field, and had his first game under 20, where he didn't get injured.
  2. Helps when every page somebody makes a post asking why this thread is so long.
  3. What the heck? He's determined to waste his senior year away. Can't wait to get him back. He averaged 10 ppg last year. Any word if Bassett will play?
  4. Yeah, I'm like that too for the most part. k/9 less than 7 usually makes me cringe.
  5. If the Cubs want Blanton, they better hurry. My brother in NYC just heard Buster Olney on some station saying the Mets just offered: Carlos Gomez, Aaron Heilman, and Kevin Mulvey. And Olney thinks Beane will strongly consider it. After the Roberts deal happens (or should I say "if"), I don't see how we can match that offer. Pie, Marshall, Atkins seems pretty equivalent. It also seems like a lot. Eh, I'd probably do it. And I like Felix.
  6. Define "sold" not wanting to acquire him for anywhere near the pricetag or also, don't think hes that much more than Jon Garland And Garland isn't that bad either. Of course, Blanton does K more, walk less, and get more GBs than Garland. It's a significant difference too.
  7. I wouldn't mind Taguchi either, provided he was only used vs. the toughest of all tough LHPs. 1 yr/$1M, I'd do, and not a penny or season more.
  8. Yeah, I've always found that to be rather lame. Prince Fielder's last month in 2007: .333 .478 .733 If Prince Fielder isn't worn out, how can Theriot be worn out late in the season? Playing with so much grit takes a lot out of a player.
  9. The Cubs "powers that be" have talked about speed all offseason long. A change at SS is needed, but Theriot adds to the speed Hendry/Piniella are looking for. I just hope he isn't at the top of the lineup. Theriot/Roberts/Lee/Ramirez/Soriano/Fukudome/Soto/Pie
  10. That's not a bad deal. He'll put up huge numbers in Philly. Is Victorino moving to CF?
  11. Is the jersey gonna have hyphens? Fuk-u-do-me
  12. Jay Payton and some cash? I'd do that. He'd play for Pie in Cf vs. LHPs.
  13. Angel Pagan. He could beat out Fuld for the job, but I think it'll be a close race and will likely be decided by who has a better ST. Fuld is left-handed. Race over.
  14. What's gonna happen today? Me posting in the wrong thread. That's what's going to happen today. I figured. Assuming you meant the Roberts deal?
  15. So you would rather have a hitter K with a man on third than hit a deep fly ball to the OF with 1 out? I understand what you're saying but an out isn't an out straight across the line. Obviously not, but when is this "choice" going to come up? You can't base player personnel decisions on these types of situation, because by and large, hitters aren't coming up in these situations. I can bring up a choice of hypotheticals like this too, where the K would be the far preferable result. I never said the batter has a choice. I was merely saying that one out isn't the same as another. As for striking out, of course it's better than a DP. Just throwing out a statement that an out is an out is incorrect, they have different impacts/results. 9 times out of 10 all outs are the same. An everyday player gets 650 plate appearances each year. A minimal amount of those come in situations where a strikeout is worse than any other out.
  16. I think the stigma is explicable. It's the dogmatic obsession with the strikeout once logic has been entered into the discussion that is inexplicable to me. I'm a firm believer in the "an out is an out" theory, but my initial reaction to almost all strikeouts from Cubs players is still a little more vitriolic than most any other outs. I think I'm equally upset at any outs. I hate strikeouts looking, because the hitter should have been swinging. I hate swinging Ks, because they are usually on pitches out of the zone or because a hitter guesses wrong. I hate GIDPs. I hate popouts. I hate lineouts, but that's more directed at the D for being positioned right or making a great play.
  17. The only thing a leadoff hitter needs to do is get on base. I don't understand the point of seeing pitches for the rest of the lineup. It's not like 9 pitches to the leadoff hitter is gonna make every other hitter hit the pitcher better. With all the scouting reports and video that exists, this is pretty pointless. The point of seeing pitches is to get something to hit first and foremost. Soriano did a good enough job getting a pitch to hit early in games.
  18. Cubs are a little grit, heart and toughness away from being really unbeatable.
  19. In the unlikely event that we're able to pull off that deal for that package, I will voluntarily go on a one month Jim Hendry criticism embargo. That's not a light package. Murton is the Cubs 3rd best OF at this point and best RH bat not being paid at least 12M for this season. Gallagher may be the Cubs 5th best starter. Patterson, admittedly, doesn't have much value unless he can handle 2B adequately. Not saying that it's too much, but it's far from robbery. Roberts for two seasons at a very friendly price, then let him walk for two high draft choices. An excellent deal. I like Sean Gallagher, but a good farm system should be able to pop out a Gallagher every couple of seasons. Roberts seems like the type to accept arbitration, being that he won't get much of a raise if he hits the market, so I don't know that you can count on those picks, even if he is a type A. And yeah, I'd do the deal, but it's a far cry from the Aramis trade. Thankfully it's a far cry from the Pierre trade too.

  21. Willie McGee with more power.
