  1. He has a really good arm. A lot of upside, but still it's just as a reliever. Believe fastball/slider type. Typical Hendry acquisition. Strong arm, control needs work. Secondary pitches need work.
  2. FYI, mentioned Ratliff coming back a few times during the game, but never said when. I don't think anyone knows at this point.
  3. Wow. Scary game. IU wins 84-72 over a game Tennessee St. team. Of course, anyone looks tough when Eric Gordon leaves midway thru the 1st half with a bruised tailbone. IU played the last 28 minutes with just 1 scholarship player under 6'5". DJ White with a monster game! Career high 29 points, 13 boards, and 4 blocks. Jamarcus Ellis with 10 points, 10 assists, and 7 boards, but did have 7 TOs as he played the point forward most of the game. The senior class really stepped up and provided the leadership as Mike White contributed 11 points and 8 rebs. Lance Stemler had just 9 points, but hit back to back 3s when the IU lead was cut to just 7 points. Saturday vs. UK will be nice just to get some more guards back on the floor. Gordon's injury didn't look too serious, and I suspect he would play.
  4. Swisher would be too good to be true. He walked 100 times last year, while cutting down his K rate a decent amount. He plays in a pitcher's park and his OPS is routinely 30-60 points higher on the road. Good pitchers can get him out, but he feasts on bad pitching. In the NL Central, there's a lot of the latter.
  5. I know the Pirates have had a thing for Blalock for a while. He'd be a pretty good fit there. I wonder if anything could be done with Bay and Blalock as the primaries.
  6. Nats have the all-upside OF. Wily Mo Pena, Dukes, Milledge.
  7. Yup, because the Cubs could not use a good player like crawford. oh, they were just going to give him to the cubs? the cubs weren't going to have to give up, say, rich hill to get him? well, if that's the case, i take it back. I'm unsure if I'd give up Hill to get him. Hill is a tad overrated. He's a above average pitcher but if he was in the AL he's not even in the discussion of top five or six lefties in the AL. In the NL he may very well be the best lefty not named Hamels. That alone tells you how weak the level of play is right now in the NL. He's not in the AL, though, so what's the point of this?
  8. So you say our biggest needs are: Leadoff hitter 2nd Hitter Power lefty? Jim Hendry, is that you? And about your power lefty - Explain to me this. How would a "power lefty" help the fact that one of our biggest offensive faults last year was the inability to hit left handed pitchers - something Left handed batters are notoriously not great at doing. I don't know why everyone keeps saying this. Sure the Cubs sucked vs. LH starters, but they don't see enough of them to be overly concerned with that. FYI, Cubs OPS vs RHPs .754.....Cubs OPS vs. LHPs .755. 8th vs. RHPs, 11th vs. LHPs. The Cubs had about 3000 fewer ABs vs. LHPs. The Cubs need to get better at hitting baseballs, no matter what hand they are thrown by.
  9. Hmm. Everything I have read has said he would be out 8 games. I've never read otherwise til now. But technically, isn't the first semester over when classes are over? Finals week is just that, there are no classes.
  10. On that list, Wisconsin/Tennessee is the only interesting game on paper. Doesn't it seem like Clemson and Auburn play every year in a bowl?
  11. Ratliff was only ineligible for 8 games, meaning he's back for the Kentucky game also. He is ineligible for the first semester. First semester ends December 14. He won't play until December 15 against Western Carolina. http://indiana.scout.com/2/672051.html
  12. Ratliff was only ineligible for 8 games, meaning he's back for the Kentucky game also.
  13. So, it's between LSU and Georgia.
  14. Wow. Mizzou got scrizzoued.
  15. Should be a decent game. May be the highest scoring bowl game of the season.
  16. Holy crap. I agree with Meph. If the Marlins are waiting for a better offer than that, they will be waiting at the end of the 2009 season when Cabrera walks away for nothing.
  17. That's how I feel too. He'll turn 36 next season. He doesn't have a ton of power (.188 ISOP in 07), he doesn't walk a ton (.083 BB/PA). He's cheap, but he's a very short-term answer, and is not a good OF.
  18. Figgins is decent. He had a great season in 07. He was horrible in 06. But his previous 3 seasons are all right in line with his career numbers of .293/.355/.400. My problem with Figgins is that he doesn't really improve the team over what the Cubs already have. He can play 3b, 2b, or CF. Obviously, he's no match for Ramirez. Pie's upside is more than what Figgins can provide in CF. And his career numbers compare closely to Derosa's, but unless he hits .330, he's not worth acquiring to push, at worst, a similar player to the bench.
  19. If the Pirates can get Shoppach, one of those pitchers and one of Marte/Crowe, I think they take that deal.
  20. Ohio State sucks. I'd argue they're the worst team of all the conference champions. You'd be wrong. I don't think they are as talented as Oklahoma, LSU, or USC, but could beat any on any given day. Ohio St. has the most quality loss of the group and were the most consistent team of the group.
  21. Yep. Granted they have a much worse loss than those two teams but they also have a best loss, so to speak, out of those teams (as Oregon's final rank will be deceiving since they tanked after Dixon went down). And Booty's injury was a big factor in USC losing both games. The same could be said for WVU with Pat White, though, Agreed. USC and WVU have very similar resumes, IMO. Both had horrible home losses. Really USC's only quality win is Arizona St. CAL and Nebraska were ranked when they played, but neither is a bowl team anymore. WVU gets quality wins vs. UConn and Cincy, but those 2 are not as good as USC's quality win.
  22. Big time win. Had a good feeling about this game. IU really shutdown the SIU 2nd chances in the 2nd half. SIU was 1-14 shooting the 3 in their own building. 8-15 from the line. IU played great defense all night holding SIU to less than 38% shooting, thanks in part to 9 blocked shots.
  23. So, the questions are who do you take with Ohio St.: - Do you take the only undefeated team with a horribly weak schedule - Do you take the only other 1 loss team, who didnt make their conference championship, but have the most quality loss of the group. - Do you take the team with 2 losses that is playing the best football in the country - Do you take the team that won the best conference in the country - Do you take the team that lost 2 games without it's QB, and is easily the most talented team of the bunch - Do you take the team that is fresh off of beating the #1 team FWIW, Va Tech shouldn't really be in the discussion.
  24. I'd like to see Georgia beat OSU in the title game, just for the confusion. I liked when you could share the national title. We could have about 9 champions this year.
