  1. Flagrant foul won't happen in Bloomington. In Champagne, I look for it to happen constantly. I think we pull out a close one. I hate playing a team that's playing so poorly, and obviously have something to get up for. But IU has the advantage of this being their first home conference game, and also having the students back in town, with the spring semester starting tomorrow. BTW, what is IDKWTI? Also, the Iowa win makes IU look a lot better. We beat them at home, no matter how ugly, while MSU lost.
  2. Was also 4 for 4 last week. I'm gonna not pick the obvious 4. NE over Jacksonville Indy over SD Dallas over Giants Seattle over Green Bay
  3. If this deal doesn't go through, I'm assuming the next logical move (from Hendry's point of view) is to still go after Figgins, but to look at him to start at 2B instead of CF.
  4. I think on one hand, the Dodgers were really disappointed in Furcal's 2007 season and would love to get rid of him. But on the other hand, in 2008, he'll be in a contract year. If Furcal was signed for another season, I think he would completely be on the block and probably not for much more than the Roberts offer. But at this point, I think the Dodgers will just hope he turns it around in his quest for another big pay day.
  5. While Cameron doesn't hit for a high average, he's always had a good batting eye. Career .111 BB/PA, which is great. If he hits in the .260-.270 range, he'd be among the better CFs in the game. And an FYI, he hit over .268 in the 2 years prior to 2007.
  6. The Cubs are getting a "Closer" Fixed. starting a rumor that will create another 15 pages easily!
  7. Or another team asked the Cubs to ask for him not to be played. :-k Trade.
  8. I don't know if I buy that Andy MacPhail is asking for Rich Hill. He'd be laughed off the telephone immediately. This is probably a patented Hendry move to throw names out there just so when he trades too much later, people will look at the deal and say, "Hey, at least he didn't give up Rich Hill." Great mods...er minds think alike. That's why we get paid the big bucks!
  9. That would be most ideal. If his home run numbers were what they were last year, then yes. If he hits 30-40 homers, I would hit him 3rd. I don't see why it makes a difference. 35-37% of the time he'll have a man on base anyway. Only marginally better if Soriano, or God forbid, Theriot is added in front of him also.
  10. The OF is probably Murton. Listen to 1300 for the updates live I've always had a problem with this. Seriously, if you know specifically it's 2 pitchers and an OF...why the hell can't you name them? If you know that much detail, how wouldn't you know it all? If you do know it all, what's the point of keeping it to yourself? If the source asked the person not to reveal the names, then they would be taking a big risk by naming them. I don't see what difference it makes to the "source". Only the more than casual Cub fan even cares who the Cubs are sending. Brian Roberts is the only "name" in the deal. The headline will be "Roberts traded to Cubs in a 4 player deal". It would be different if it was a blockbuster consistenting of multiple superstars.

  12. I don't think we will see Fukudome and Roberts back-to-back in the lineup. Nor, do I think you will see Lee, Ramirez and Soriano in a row. If that's indeed the case, there's only 2 possibilities for me (assuming Roberts): Roberts, Lee, Fukudome, Ramirez, Soriano, Soto, Pie, Theriot or Soriano, Roberts, Lee, Ramirez, Fukudome, Soto, Pie, Theriot Basically depends on how much of the spotlight you want on Fukudome. But the 2nd lineup does have 3 players in a row with less than a 1/2 season of ABs between them.
  13. And you guessed wrong. Let's take Jimmy Rollins as an example, since he was in the NL and served as the Phillies lead-off hitter most of the season. Rollins had 778 plate appearances last season, which not only led the majors in 2007 but also established a single-season major league record. He had 675 of them batting in the first spot in the order. In 153 games played, he led off an inning a total of 287 times, which comes out to 1.88 times per game. What if you take out the 100 PAs he didn't hit 1st? I'd imagine that would put that number closer to 2, which would make his statement on base.

  15. That is one of the weirdest things I've ever read, specifically the part about 11 years. They aren't signed for the next 11 years, they are signed for the next 4 years. There is presumably only one spot available for 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011. I feel like the current management team likely has more faith in Colvin than Pie, and may even be willing to push Colvin a bit, so that he may play some in 2009. Right up there with the Cubs spending $300 million last offseason.
  16. Career .354 OBP. He's not a machine, but he's well above average at getting on base. His ISOD has been pretty consistent in every year. So, yeah while 2007 was a fluke due to his .330 average, 2006 probably has to be with his .267 average. Every other season he's been dead on his career numbers and if you average his 06-07, it's eerily similar.
  17. Hilary because of Bill. Don't like her. Love him. Republicans are stupid. Though, I did like McCain until a few months ago.
  18. Dempster's career numbers as a starter: 988.2 IP 4.99 ERA 1.57 WHIP .808 Opponent's OPS 1.11 HR/9 4.71 BB/9 9.39 H/9 There is nothing in there that gives me any faith that he'll do anything good as a starter. I agree. I also believe that given some more time, Marshall and that ridiculous K/9 will see similar results. I don't like either option, but given the increase in WARP from DeRosa to Roberts, I don't mind giving away what I believe is nothing better than what we already are trotting out there. Marshall has something else going on IMO as well. His absence late in the season has me wondering. The problem isn't Marshall, per se. It's that when somebody gets hurt or Marquis/Dempster are ineffective....the Cubs go from being able to start Marshall, who has had ML success or Gallagher, who has faced ML hitters and has a decent upside....to having to throw a lesser talented or less ready pitcher on the mound.
  19. It was at least encouraging to see Bassett dressed and participating in warmups. They mentioned he would have surgery during the offseason. Hopefully he cane make it through the rest of this season and still contribute. Sampson expects him to play Sunday vs. Illinois.
  20. Wow. Michigan is a bad team. IU didn't play defense in the 1st half, and they still couldn't score til some late 3s fell. Eric Gordon will get all the accolades, but DJ White is my conference player of the year right now. 21 and 22 tonight. And yeah, I was probably a little harsh on Bassett. EJ and Crawford combined for 12 turnovers tonight.
  21. Kinda like Ryan Theriot, without the "hitter" part.
  22. IU's probably done with bowl games for another 14 years. Lose our best 2 players (Hardy, Porter), but do bring back Kellen Lewis and a decent crop of small speed WRs. DBs will be overhauled. But front 7 should be mostly in tact, including probable all conf. Greg Middleton.
  23. I'd do a mock, but I don't know if I'm cool enough.
