Yet we're tied for first. I don't want to get irrationally hopeful that this team could compete if Wells and Cashner come back healthy and effective. All the Cubs have to be to be competitive is mediocre. It is not going to take much to win this division.
May I point out how ludicrous it is that neither of these games were on WGN? The regularly scheduled 1:20 game was supposed to be on WGN. Why the heck did it get moved to CSN?
Pena's power was on display last night. However, power doesn't do much good when the wind is howling in. From what I've heard, Pena absolutely crushed that ball in the 9th last night.
Fukudome's wife is having a baby. with a Cincinatti loss and a Chicago win, Cubs can be tied for the Division lead. There could conceivably be a 5-way tie for first place after play tonight.
Lee put up OPSes of .913, .823, and .972 in '07, '08, and '09. I'm not sure it would have been reasonable to expect him to ever repeat his '05 performance. He was still a darn good player after his wrist healed completely.
They didn't fight each other. OK. The Cubs beat the Blue Jays in a game where Sergio Mitre pitched for the Cubs and Roy Halladay pitched for the Blue Jays. Better?
As I pointed out a couple days ago, Sergio Mitre beat Roy Halladay once. I'm not expecting the Cubs to win this one, but stranger things have happened.
While he was with the Yankees, Mariano Rivera taught him how to get people out. And just brushing against Jeter a few times while walking past him in the dugout probably made Wood a winner. Wood has actually been to the playoffs 4 times as a Cub.
