  1. Despite all of this recent losing, it's nice to think that that Cubs still have the 6th best record in baseball. We are in a world's better postion this season. We have made huge upgrades in RF and C, with the back end of the rotation being the only thing we really need to get straightened out. Plus, I don't see any way the Cards keep it going and the Brew Crew will slide even further when Sheets invariably gets hurt.
  2. It's hard to be upbeat about a team when they've won 3 times in the last 2 weeks. That, and its depressing to see how good they were for the past month, and now....not so much. Definitely worrysome. Yup. It sucks when I got my hopes up and seriously considered this team could be a special team. They have the fifth best record in all of baseball....that's not bad in my book.
  3. Anybody have Jesse Rogers number, maybe he'd like to ask Lou why on earth he'd waste his best pitcher with a 6 run lead. This is as bad as Dusty leaving Prior in late in the second game of the NLCS....brutal!
  4. Lou meet Dusty, Dusty meet Lou....New manager same as the old manager.
  5. I love how as Tim McCarver is about to call it a great catch, the ball clearly bounces off the ground....love the insight Tim, keep it up!
  6. Let's hope the SI cover jinx is not in effect... http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/si_online/covers/issues/2008/0505.html
  7. New ball game....let's go RIOT! (Boy, do I like the chemistry, grit and spunk of this team  )
  8. I'll take 1 run and 6 hits through six any day Yeah but that doesn't take into account the hard hit balls that he's given up. The numbers look good, but don't reflect the quality of his pitching. Boy, we're getting picky these days. Frankly, I don't care how we get the other team out. one run given up in 6 innings is a really nice pitching performance in my book.
  9. Exactly! Great teams pick each other up when need be and get the job done...game after game....let's start to run away with this thing!
  10. 10,000!!!!!!!!!!! What a wild and crazy way to move into five-digits....way to fight back two innings in a row, and Marmol was nasty to pick up Woody. Man, do I LOVE THIS TEAM! Let's keep it going tomorrow!
  11. Man, I'm getting tired of seeing the Cubs score all of these runs in the 8th inning, preventing Woody from coming in for the save!
  12. What this Cubs team needed was not another power threat (we already have three guys more than capable of 30+ HRs), what we needed was an OBP guy. Right now, Fuku is the most patient hitter in the game with a .444 OBP...and to think he's still getting used to MLB.....love the FUKU-MAN!
  13. how are we doing against non-pirate pitching? Every team plays the dregs of the league, don't they?
  14. Soriano's skills haven't diminished. Well then he has no baseball acumen. How about a diminished stats clause? 130 million just doesn't buy much anymore. Someone tell Soriano that just because the dollar buys a whole lot less doesn't mean that his play has to diminish in kind. The Cubs wouldn't have made the playoffs last year without Soriano's torrid pace in June when we coincidentally turned the season around.
  15. Think the Sox would look good with Maggs in the lineup, if it wasn't for Ozzie and KW's verbal war...Yeah, Carlos Lee as well. And the genius would have traded Crede in a heartbeat if anyone wanted to take him back in the spring.
  16. I just don't understand why we seem to have such a short rope on Pie? In the first 10 games of the season, he's already won one game with a clutch at bat. There's no question is needs to get better plate discipline, but that isn't going to happen while sitting on the bench. Our offense should be strong enough to allow Pie to grow into his role. He's done it at every step along the way and I don't see why he won't now.
  17. I'd actually like the Cubs to wear throwback jerseys for all Sunday home games. Play up the tradition of Wrigley and the franchise. Although the wife wouldn't like me buying another jersey.
  18. Me like the 2008 Chicago Cubs.....we haven't even been firing on all cylinders and we're 6-3....let's keep it going in Philly!
  19. It's not luck; that's grit. Can't be, it goes in the book as a CS - CS is the enemy of the grit. I understand why Riot doesn't get a SB but why in the world is it called a CS?
  20. Yeah, that sub 1.00 ERA for Demp is brutal...
  21. It feel like last week already, but great game by Demp and I'm happy for PIe. If we all give the guy a chance, he's going to be a solid CF for the Cubs. Now let's go get the SWEEP tomorrow!
  22. Heart of the order coming up.....let's get a couple of runs and end this thing!
  23. I became a big Red Sox fan after I found my favorite player traded to Beantown back in 1984. He didn't deserve all the ridicule and blame that he's gotten over the years, and I agree with him that the media is at fault for keeping stories like his and Bartman's going. I may be a sentimental fool, but I shed a couple of tears while watching Billy Buck walk in from the Green Monster yesterday. It was long overdue.
