  1. One other thing...for all the Hendry bashers: Who would you want to see replace Hendry? Really, how many GMs out there do a consistently above average job? Maybe a half dozen?
  2. Every GM has his good and bad moves...but in the end it's Hendry's good moves that make the difference. There aren't many GMs who literally stole two perennial all-star players in D-Lee and Ram for scrap players. These guys are the foundation of our team, and we wouldn't be sniffing the playoffs without them. So, I can take a Steve Traschel trade every now and again if I get to enjoy moves like DeRosa, Lilly, and oh yeah, our lead-off, HR-hitting stud.
  3. After seeing the first two months of this team I'm shocked we won 85 games. I have no doubt that with this current club as is, we would've won 90 games easy... Agreed. This is why it bothers me a bit to hear the Cubs referred to as a bad playoff team and all that. They came back from ~10 games under .500 and 8.5 games back over two months into the season. You have to play pretty damn well and consistently to do that. Hell, had we not lost Soriano in August, we might have won 90 games, or at least come a bit closer. I guess you really have to look at the season as a whole, though. I'm biased, but I definitely think the Cubs are better than their record. I heard the other day that the Cubs are the best team in baseball since June 23. So I don't buy the argument that the only reason the Cubs made the playoffs is because of our division. And yes, we would have been even better with healthy Zo, A-Ram and D-Lee, all of whom were banged up much of the regular season.
  4. Hey, look with the Sox did with a similar payroll...spending money doesn't necessarily bring a winner.
  5. Great highlights vid!....Where did you get the song?
  6. Aaahhhh, it's nice to know Harpo's is still doing quarter draws. I sure drank my fill of beer for $5, that's for sure...still have the cups to prove it.
  7. The $10 million man (which is what the Cubs are paying him THIS year, despite all the national morons who just refer to the $136 total) is the reason we are in the playoffs. Back at the beginning of June, the Cubs were on the edge of total collapse. Zo went on to win player of the month helping to turn the team around. Then, in the most critical time of the year, Al shinned once again breaking the Cubs all-time monthly HR total. Sure, he Ks more often than I'd like, but he gutted it out this year and delivered a division title, with more to come...
  8. That's simple, ME...... I've more than paid my dues during my 30 years as a Cubs fan. Also for my son, who is in his first year as a true-blue Cubs fans (he's 4). I want him to start off his Cubs fandom on the right foot!
  9. Has anyone been able to find this hat??? I've called Sports Authority the last two days with no luck. Now this afternoon, I called and they are already sold out. Wrigleyville Sports has the hat for $30 and CubsWorld is at $35---making me wonder if they had delivery issues, so why not screw us fans...It's driving me nuts! I must have my hat!
  10. What of the things I really enjoy about having my teams win, is going out and getting all the gear. Back in January, I stopped at the Sports Authority downtown on my way home from the Bears game to pick up the t-shirt. On Saturday, I headed out to SA again and got the Cubs division champs shirt. I'm still looking for the hat though. What is everyone else getting, and where (I still want to get the hat!)?
  11. I have all my teeth and don't wear tank top undershirts to games...so I couldn't be a Sox fan. Seriously though, my Cubs addiction starting back in the 70s, when I'd race home from school on my bike hoping to catch the last couple of innings of the game on WGN. The rest is history. The best part of this season has been seeing my 4-year-old son becoming a big Cubs fan in front of my eyes. It comes full circle...
  12. Wish I could join you guys back in Columbia...graduated from J-school back in '92. Was trying to get back for the big game next weekend, but we're having an Octoberfest party. But we'll have one TV tuned into the game with the other on the Cubs playoff game. What could be better? GO TIGERS!
  13. We can thank my daughter for today's title...We had her 3rd birthday party four years ago on the day the Cubs sweep the Pirates to win the division title, and today we celebrated her 7th birthday with another Cubs title. Oh, am I a happy father and Cubs fan right now! GO CUBS! 2007 National League Central Division Champions
  14. Please don't count outs....it brings back way too many bad memories
  15. WTG WOODY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now let's get him the W...
  16. How can we not hit a guy with a 5.50+ ERA who threw 50 pitches in the first two innings. Man, I never know whether to love or hate this team...
  17. Love it....Corry gets done saying that the Brewers' McClurg was suspended for throwing at Al P., so what's the first thing Ron asks, "Who threw the pitch?" Love the insight from our "analyst."
  18. Yeah, the 2 game lead with 4 to go is too much to overcome
