  1. A lot of people (including myself) thought Lee was washed up at the beginning of last year, but he turned it around and had one of the best seasons of his career. He has been bad for most of this year, but I doubt that will last. Regardless of how he finishes the season though, the Cubs would be wise to shake Lee's hand at the end of the year and let him walk. That position is just screaming for a left-handed run producer.
  2. I wondered the same thing. I've been trying to find out, but no luck yet.
  3. Bruce Levine seems to think that Cashner may be targeted for the bullpen "out of necessity". I'm sorry, but well-run organizations do not move their top starting pitcher prospects to the bullpen just to fill a hole. If if turns out that Cashner doesn't have the endurance or durability to be a Major League starter, that's fine, but at least give him a chance to succeed before throwing him into the bullpen.
  4. http://l.yimg.com/a/i/us/sp/v/mlb/players_l/20100429/6210.jpg Someone take the Royals hat off my auto mechanic!
  5. I guess it's time to fertilize the yard, catch up on DVR recordings, and check back in a couple hours for the score.
  6. Hopefully Wells can get it together, but if the Cubs are going to lose, at least do it with flying colors here in the first inning so I can reclaim the rest of my night.
  7. Cutting payroll for the sake of cutting payroll isn't the answer, but I wouldn't be opposed to it as part of a longer-term plan. Mixing and matching veteran players isn't working, so if the Cubs continue to play poorly the rest of the season then why not start a mini-rebuilding phase while waiting for some of the restrictive contracts to expire?
  8. It shouldn't take 95 losses for that to happen. A team with a $140 million payroll shouldn't struggle to play .500 baseball for 2 consecutive seasons. Anything short of a playoff berth should prompt a massive housecleaning. With that said, I would still rather see the Cubs play good baseball and sneak in by the Wild Card.
  9. Win a couple, lose a couple, win a couple, lose a couple... I don't think it really matters who the Cubs play. The .500 mark just seems like an insurmountable hurdle.
  10. sorry if you're upset with me using one of your cool words you think is original. how about we make deal where i don't use "meatball", and you don't use "awesome". that's my word and i'm afraid of it catching on. I think meatball was a Sulley creation, but I could be wrong. Boers & Bernstein have been using that term for years, but I couldn't tell you whether it started here first.
  11. I'm loving this Soriano hot streak. Hopefully he can keep it going for awhile and carry the Cubs through the next couple weeks before his inevitable cool down. On the negative side, it was another poor outing from Grabow today. I'm all for improving the bullpen, but the more they struggle the more I fear that Hendry is going to grossly overpay in prospects to get another mediocre veteran.
  12. or his slightly less-limited starting duty.
  13. I was thinking the same thing. I don't remember his swing looking that long earlier in the year, but it does look really long.
  14. Who is this Soriano character? He has looked really good at the plate lately.
  15. Aramis sure seems to get a lot of bases loaded opportunities.
  16. Wow, Mike Bielecki is 50 years old? He doesn't look anywhere close to that.
  17. someone needs to get a screen shot of this, it's hilarious http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll31/southpaw19_josh/gd_lee.gif What Gameday doesn't show is he was using a really long bat.
  18. Your 3 and 4 hitters ladies and gentlemen.
  19. Don't tell Lou. He'll revoke your press credentials.
  20. I don't see how the Pirates and Reds are easier opponents than the Nationals and D-Backs. Good teams should not lose four in a row at home. Ever. That's because we're not a good team. The Reds shouldn't be, but the Pirates are... well... the Pirates. No argument on the statement that the Cubs are not a good team. They are a mediocre team with a payroll 2-3 times that of their performance.
  21. Not to worry Cubs fans... with the Pirates and Reds coming up, the Cubs will claw their way back up to .500. Of course, that will probably be followed by another losing streak. It's going to be a long season of miniature winning and losing streaks while hanging right around .500 and never seriously threatening the Cardinals. I hope I'm wrong, but I haven't seen any evidence to convince me otherwise.
