  1. TV angles can be deceiving..... but it looked to me like Nady should have caught both of Konerko's RBI singles. I thought the same thing. The one in the first inning looked catchable, and the one in the 7th looked fairly routine.
  2. I heard Dan Bernstein on the radio the other day trying to educate fans on advanced baseball statistics, and was using FIP like it was the king of all pitching statistics. Whoever was with him (not Boers) was noticing that Jimenez wasnt among the top 10 pitchers in FIP and calling the stat out based on that. Dan's response was to defend that damn stat to the death and kept talking about how its more important than anything else you can look at because it's independant of fielding. I was just shaking my head. These stats are great, but people have to understand that there is not one single stat that determines the value or worth of an individual player. I enjoy listening to Boers & Bernstein and Bernstein is a very intelligent guy, but he infuriates me sometimes when he states his point of view as an indisputable fact. His defense of Jimenez not being one of the top 10 pitchers based on one statistic alone really made no sense.
  3. It is the city of Chicago's fault.
  4. http://static.foxsports.com/content/fscom/img/2010/06/10/0609-Derrek-Lee-Primary_20100610010302_660_320.JPG Not only has he stopped shaving, but in that photo he looks really pale and even sickly. He looks like he is in Week 3 of Cubs Survivor.
  5. Cubs are 11-20 in games decided by 2 or fewer runs. Santo says it is "ridiculous" and, for once, I agree with him.
  6. I'm with you. The best part of any drive to the south is seeing that first Waffle House shining like a beacon on the side of the road.
  7. Another postgame gem from Lou tonight, who "doesn't want to talk about our offense anymore." There it is folks, the solution to our offensive problems. The best offense is a good defense I always say!
  8. I have an idea. Let's give him 2 days off, then bat him cleanup again. Any day now someone will flip that magic switch that instantly turns the worst hitter in the major leagues into a run producer.
  9. That is horrible. It would be nice to see the call overturned, but I'm just not sure what kind of precedent that would set for future games.
  10. That sucks. I was hoping for west coast baseball tonight.
  11. What exactly are the "problems clearing the field"?
  12. I like the idea of trading Lilly, especially considering we already have a cheap replacement in Gorzellany.
  13. I may try to dump 1 of my 2 remaining games at Wrigley, but unfortunately I still have a potentially miserable trip to St. Louis planned in August. Luckily I only bought tickets to 2 of the 3 games in advance, so at least I can get away from the Cubs for the middle game and find something else to do. Why would you even go to St. Louis in the first place, even to see the Cubs? Two years ago was Cincinnati. Last year was Pittsburgh. The way the schedule worked out this year, St. Louis was next up. It would have been fun if the Cubs were able to stay in contention, but I should have known better!

  15. With Thursday being an off day, can Lou survive a series sweep against the Pirates tomorrow? I'm afraid the answer is yes, but how many other managers could last through a 1-8 start against the Pirates? The team obviously isn't hitting, but his mismanagement (or lack of management) of the bullpen may have cost the Cubs another game tonight.
  16. Can we blow the team up yet? Yeah yeah, I know, it can't happen... but I'd much rather watch a team of rookies like Colvin, Castro, Cashner, etc. lose games than this ragtag bunch of bums.
  17. I saw it, but wasn't sure if it was a shrug or a shiver. I was giving him the benefit of the doubt that it was a shiver.
  18. Yeah I know, we should have spread those runs out a little bit. Those 2 runs could have got us 2 wins against a lesser team! I've been for firing Jim Hendry since like 2 years ago. Maybe we could hire someone who understands how to use $140 million to make an above .500 type team. According to Bruce Levine on Waddle & Silvey this morning, he thinks Hendry has done a good job and isn't going anywhere. He said that a lot of the fault lies with Sam Zell and the Tribune Company pushing him to spend money to drive the value of the team up. Yep, he really said that...
  19. Good point. From now on, I'm going to encourage actual discussion. Would you like to start ? The Jelly bean is neither made of jelly nor is it a bean. Discuss.

  21. Lou's comments after today's game: I guess he doesn't know.
