What else was the runner supposed to do? Be tagged out. I really haven't formed an opinion either way on collisions, I've really never thought about the topic. But if you aren't going to allow players to run over catchers at home plate, then catchers shouldn't be allowed to blatatnly block homeplace to the point where the runner doesn't have a choice but to run over the catcher to get to the plate. Exactly. I just don't know how that rule could be enforced. MLB could try to legislate head shots, but even that is difficult because the catcher's positioning may put his head right at shoulder-level.
