It doesn't seem like there is any hard innings limit, but more of an effort to keep his pitch counts relatively low (in the 70-80 range) to allow him to continue pitching into October. I doubt this was the plan originally, but right now they can't afford for him not to pitch.
It is hard to believe Rizzo is still only 36 years old. It feels like forever ago that he was here. He is more than 3 years younger than the other washed up First Baseman the Cubs just signed.
I'm more than willing to entertain locking Nico up for awhile longer, but there is certainly more than "zero reason" not to commit to a 2B contract up to age 35 for a guy whose value is made up largely from speed and defense.
