  1. What I'm stuck here wondering is, why aren't we hearing about Hendry renegotiating Aramis's contract? If I were Hendry, I'd be sitting down with Aramis and his agent and trying to offer him up another couple million dollars over the next two years in exchange for taking out the opt-out clause. If Aramis were to refuse, then you know for sure he's planning on opting out, and then you trade him. Just don't gamble with a talent like Aramis based on "indications"
  2. Yeah, Dusty would do real well with rookies with makeup problems. He can barely keep the well behaved ones from imploding completely.
  3. Lew Burdette and Ted Lyons match the career path as well, I guess. Though even using those guys is a stretch, as both had better strikeout and walk rates than Wang. Two successful pitchers on that path in 80 years kinda puts the odds against Wang though, I'd say. Especially when you consider how much the game has changed since those guys played.
  4. Its extremely rare to find a pitcher that can handle more than a couple seasons of success without at least a league-average K rate. So rare, in fact, that I can't think of a single one off the top of my head. Tommy John might be the closest... but his K rate always hovered right around league average, even if a bit on the low end. And his walk rates were damn good.
  5. Murton is actually 12 FRAA this year. The other guys come in at league average.
  6. Wow. We should have just traded him for cash considerations. We could've gotten something out of that.
  7. I thought he picked up Murton when the Expos wanted a prospect that wasn't Murton. Hendry threw in Brendan Harris and said he'd take Murton. At least that's how I remember it going.
  8. I'm at 606 right now... Adrian Gonzalez, Xavier Nady, and Chan Ho Park are killing me... and Izturis getting injured and Batista getting cut are killing me...
  9. That's a style choice, really. Hamels has the potential to be much better than Blanton... but he'll spend a lot more time on the DL than Blanton, most likely. Though it's not as if Blanton wont be at least league average or so. I dunno. If you feel comfortable with your team's health, grab Hamels. If you don't, grab Blanton.
  10. Oh, if only the Royals were in contention... I sure could go for Alex Gordon.
  11. Petitte can't get the ball in the zone, and Jones goes up there swinging from his heels... Jeez.
  12. I don't feel like creating a topic, but Bob Wickman went to the Braves for Max Ramirez ©. Are the Braves really gonna try to make a run?
  13. I really don't like Milledge that much, in response to the previous two offers.
  14. Trade him with a secret agreement in place for him to opt out after this season and resign with the cubs.
  15. Ok, I hardly mean to be rude, but how can you propose not taking into effect the efforts of their peers, but then go spouting off OPS+ and league averages? What you're using are simply crude metrics compared to WARP. But even if you want to play your way... Santo's career OPS+ is 125, Sosa's 129. Then factor in defensive ability. By all accounts, Santo was an excellent defender. Sammy was, at his best, slightly above average. Over the years, Santo definately would come out on top in value. 4 points of OPS+ is nowhere near enough to cover the difference in defensive value. And Santo is still an icon for sportsfans everywhere. Just as Sammy came out of the Dominican and took the Latin world by storm... Santo was one of the first professional athletes to come out and let the world know he had diabetes. He was an inspiration to sick children with dreams of batting in game seven of the world series. But where Sosa has failed to live up to his billing as a role model, Santo has continued to excell in his for decades now. Nobody save perhaps Ernie Banks has ever shown the adolescent love of baseball and the Cubs that Santo has. Oh, and back to stats...this is Santo's rank in OPS... 1964 - 2 1965 - 6 1966 - 4 1967 - 6 I'd say he had a pretty good stretch where he was feared too. And damnit, he deserves respect for it.
  16. That's what the numbers say. Though Santo has played in 3 more games than Sosa... so if Sosa were to go 16 for 16 with 16 HRs, maybe he'd take it up to about even.
  17. Yup. According to FRAA, Santo was worth 108 runs above average on defense during his career. Sosa was 11 above average at a less demanding position over the course of his career.
  18. Already did. =P
  19. Career WARP3 (Wins Above Replacement Player, adjusted for 162 games and league difficulty) Anson - 162.9 Banks - 129.3 Jenkins - 121.5 Santo - 119.1 Williams - 116.7 Sandberg - 114.5 Hartnett - 109.9 Sosa - 103.6 Brown - 71.9 Turns out, Sosa actually isn't top 5. And Anson got screwed... badly. And taking out those few seasons where some of the guys played in other cities isn't enough to put him over the top, either... though I imagine Jenkins would drop off the top 5.
  20. Per Rotoworld Anybody remember the call? Edit: Def. put this in the wrong forum. Can I get a move?
  21. Can't start with anybody other than... 1. Bench 2. Berra 3. Campy 4. Piazza 5. Cochrane 6. Fisk 7. Gabby Hartnett 8. Gary Carter 9. Ted Simmons 10. Ernie Lombardi Lombardi might not belong on the list... but that's only because the infielders were playing him in the outfield. If he would have gotten a normal infield defense, he'd have been as much of a monster as his size would suggest.
  22. Gonna try to let them top 11 runs in an inning already? Damn.
