    That's assuming we actually got replacement level production in his place. And since the primary beneficiary of the injury was Neifi, with Walker moving over to first base... it's quite possible we didn't get replacement level production from either position. While I haven't looked at the numbers yet, I'd be quite surprised if the tandem proved to be above replacement level as a whole.

    If we're listing Jeter, why aren't we paying any attention to Tejada? His stats are almost exactly the same... a little lighter on the OBP and AVG, but a good deal higher on SLG. And for that matter Carlos Guillen has numbers that are just about the same. I'm sorry, but I don't believe there's any way Hafner doesn't deserve the award this year... and if it's not him, it's Manny or Mauer.

    Why are we adding guys like Walrond and O'Malley to the 40 man? I swear, if we get raped in the Rule V again, I'm gonna be livid. These guys better get DFA'd after the season.

    This season was secured for Webb when the DBacks acquired Orlando Hudson. The day that happened, Webb jumped to the top of my pitching draft chart.

    That's just not true. The Cubs have promoted plenty of guys to the next level without any semblence of success behind them. Perhaps I should clarify... In the farm systems of teams that have a clue, age relative to level is worth looking at.

    What makes a good prospect? As far as I'm concerned... being young for the league might be the most important indicator. It indicates plenty of past success, or else, hey... you wouldn't have been put in that league. At the same time, it also allows the player the most time to develop... whether at the same level or at the major league level. Players like Delmon Young, who can more than hold their own against AAA pitching at age 20... it's just hard to find players like that who never manage to pan out. But you'll find plenty of guys like Kevin Orie who were old for the leagues, mashed, but never could figure it out when they finally had to face harder pitching and face a fairly strict timetable for breaking into the league.

    Money still talks in this game. We would have to overpay. If the Muts offered 14/season the Cubs would have to offer 16-17/season. What other choice do the Cubs have at this point? Hendry has put the Cubs in this position. Now going into 2007 the Cubs have a gaping whole in that rotation. I would rather overpay with $$$$ than prospects(see the Juan Pierre trade) Actually, you'd only have to offer another penny... If memory serves me correctly, in an open bidding war... no Boras client has ever signed with the team that offered less money.

    Agree completely. CLee will be grossly overpaid and Murt is already looking like a cheap and effective #2 hitter. Soriano would be most welcome at 2B but unfortunately Jim will want a ballcatcher there. I'm just hoping Jim will be captivated by Soriano's basestealing. He seems to value that sort of thing. Sort of his ignorance clouding his bad judgement?

    I doubt we could get much from the Phillies for Pierre... at least not enough to offset the two comp picks we can get for offering him arbitration this offseason.

    It'd be absolutely amazing to see Rusch and Neifi's contracts off the book for next year. Let's wish the big man some luck!

    But VORP is cumulative, and Bynum hasn't played much. Give him time. He'll reach savior status eventually. Well at least Bynum's has been heading in the right direction...

    Bynum's VORP: .4 Neifi: -7.4 Bynum appears to be slightly better than replacement level. So that's something, I guess....

    You know what I'm starting to think? I'm starting to think there hasn't been more than maybe one or two racist letters for any of those guys. Society is getting to the point where it isn't necessary to drop an "n-bomb" to be accused of racism. I'm not so naive as to believe that there haven't been any truly racist letters received... but I am beginning to think that if somebody writes Dusty a letter and calls him a s***head, they're trying to spin that into "He's hated because he's black." instead of the more accurate "He's hated because he sucks"

    He's already freed up nearly 3 million dollars and spots on the 40 and 25 man rosters... not to mention his offense isn't hurting us nearly as much as Neifi's did. What more do you want from the guy?

    I'm not sure we haven't thrown some cash in to even out this trade... Either that or the new guy has leprosy. Otherwise, it's too much to give up for just Neifury alone.

    Yeah, he's such a team player that he moved to 3B when the Yankees signed the best defensive SS in the AL...wait, that never happened. Jeter, through his service in NY, should hold the preference of position played. Again, you're making something out of nothing. You're saying that he should get to play whatever position he wants out of deference to his tenure, regardless of the fact that it's detrimental to the team? No, I'm not saying whatever position he wants. Jeter has developed as a SS and deserves to play that position until his skills dictate otherwise; another player acquisition should not be the reason of a position shift. Who says Jeter's defense is detrimental to the team anyway? He may not have A+ range but he turns the DP and fields balls that should be made. The Yankeee's infield defense is definitely not a problem of the squad. So you're telling me that if we acquired David Wright... who is a better hitter and gold glove defender... that Aramis shouldn't be the one to move to a less demanding defensive position... simply because he's been here longer? Aramis has the skill to play the position marginally well... same as Jeter at SS. But why rearrange the talent in a less beneficial manner because of tenure?

    According the the Davenport Translations on BP, he's been worth 3 runs over average so far this year. Then again, it's a pretty small sample size for use with fielding metrics...

    I would have loved Jose Cruz over Cesar Izturis... and quite obviously, I think we could have had him, plus maybe a mid-grade prospect.

    Maybe, but his stock has fallen so much he just got sent down to AAA. That's just crazy. Its a rehab assignment.
