He was shell-shocked. His post game comments indicate that in everyway. He probably didn't know Neifi was due up. The guy made one of the most bone-head plays in baseball and you send him to the plate with that on his mind. I am convinced that Baker did not even know who was scheduled to bat in that inning. As far as benches go. Look at the Braves. They lead the NL in pinch-hits with 25. Their bench is full of young players. The Cubs are last. And they are old and decrepit. -
It's also important to place the second-highest OBP in the lineup in the 8th spot. It's helpful when struggling to score runs in the National League...

If a player is serving a suspension and I have no reserve player to fill the position, can I pickup someone and place the suspended player on the injured list ? As you might tell, I'm reaching for any points I can get this week...

yes, it's remarkable. 2nd in the NL in singles/ab. but, as anyone who knows baseball said, this team would fall apart after they stopped overachieving w/risp... the cubs shouldn't be giving anyone credit. the padres had to do very little to sweep this series. that's a reflection on the cubs terrible approach at the plate and players throwing baseballs all over the diamond...

Speaking of OBP; how about Youkilis this year for Boston ? The guy is as slow as Hector Villanueva. Crisp goes down for 2 months and all Youk does is step in and produce a .438 OBP from the leadoff spot. Speed means little anymore in the game of baseball other than close and late situations. You can't steal 1st. The Cubs organization still has no concept of this.

last years team was too reliant on home runs this years team is too reliant on the opposing defense making four straight errors it's like Hendry assembled a t-ball team... the cubs are 2nd in the nl in singles/pa! they're just last in everything else...
