  1. neifi helped saved the shutout! nevermind murton hustling out a DP grounder down 8-0 in a meaningless game...
  2. womack left the game with a back injury and in comes neifi. remember, speed and defense.
  3. it just got better tonight! bynum in lf, batting 2nd, mabry at dh. walker, benched. woo
  4. Nevin might slow us down in the 4x400 relay, but I'm sure Womack will finish strong.
  5. Bobby Abreu has walked 72 times this year including two different stretches in which he walked in 14 straight games. The Cubs as a team have not walked in 14 straight games. On a similar note, the Phillies are last in batting average, but they are 6th in OBP, which allows them to be 7th in runs scored. It's simple math that doesn't make any sense to the Cubs.
  6. I forget, was Baylor this bad? EY/Gutierrez 1/2 combo was the standard under Baylor. Here were their OBP's in 00 and 01, respectively: .367/.375 .339/.345 Baylor did bat Bill Mueller and his .403 OBP in the 2nd spot a lot during 01 before injury when Gutierrez struggled.
  7. Statements like this just pile on the evidence against this staff. I certainly don't expect the Cubs to draw walks against Santana, but look at how the Twins won their last two games. They worked Clemens for 100 pitches over 5 innings. Last night, they worked Marmol for 106 pitches over 5.2 innings. It's no accident that the Cubs have seen the fewest pitches in the National League.
  8. J. Pierre cf N. Perez 2b A. Ramirez 3b P. Nevin 1b M. Murton lf J. Jones rf R. Cedeno ss T. Walker dh H. Blanco c
  9. Lots of Bynum and Neifi!!! Oh boy!!! Dusty's a f'in (pardon my language) idiot. The Metrodome went to field-turf 3 years ago. It's the Astro-Play stuff that is the best resemblance to natural grass. Yet another excuse to play his boys...
  10. Here's one of his gems on day games:
  11. sure! and thanks! Yeah.. real nice move. I deserve to lose, but you have a lot of ground to make up. 3-R HR Franceour! I think 9 more points will do it! C'mon Big Papi.
  12. sure! and thanks! Yeah.. real nice move. I deserve to lose, but you have a lot of ground to make up. If you do the subtraction on the Prior start, the Trots are at around 235 pts. If Ortiz, Timlin, Nixon, and Franceour can combine for around 25 pts, Buddiga could pull off the comeback...
  13. sure! and thanks!
  14. Entering June, 1974, a 24 year old Johnnie B Baker was scuffling a bit for the Atlanta Braves. He was hitting .280/.350/.460 with 5 hr and 14 rbi. Unforunately for Johnnie B, things just got worse that June. In that month, he hit rock bottom posting a .167/.250/.226 line. That left Johnnie B to ponder what happened in those first 260 AB's of the season. Just 6 hr and 20 rbi for the promising right hander. The one thing Johnnie B knew; he wasn't going to lose his job in right field. Jonnie B entered the second half of the season with renewed energy and continue to work just as he had been. This time, the results came with it. Young Johnnie B tore the cover off the ball from July to the finish of 1974. He walked and struck out more often, but he was a lot more productive. In fact, 10 hr, 48 rbi, and 45 runs scored in those last 3 months. I have no idea how things will play out in the last 3+ months, but Dusty's 1974 season and Murton's 2006 season read statistically much the same. The Braves stuck with Baker that season and reaped the rewards. They were also a competitive team that year winning 88 games. They finished in 3rd place in the division behind the Big Red Machine and the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Cubs are going nowhere. Freddie Bynum is a nothing. And the Cubs are willing to allow Dusty Baker to do something that wasn't done to him; sit a struggling, talented player going through a cold stretch in favor of some toolsy 5th outfielder.
  15. I'd bat Murton 2nd or 6th right now. I'd put the lineup together as follows: Walker Murton Jones Nevin Ramirez Barrett Cedeno Pierre
  16. The Cubs are 9-17 when Neifi starts. Here is a breakdown: April with Neifi (416k): 6-2 May with Neifi (416k): 0-13 June with Neifi (208k): 3-2
  17. Great to see Wieters get recognized with the 1st team. His pitch recognition at the plate is probably the best in the college game. He has reached base by hit or walk in 20 of the last 26 PA coming into the CWS. I'd like to see the Cubs continue tanking so they have a shot at him in the first round next year.
  18. Forecast for Chicago Lakeshore area on Friday: 88 degrees, SW Wind 20-25 mph Ready to see a HR record re-established by Glendon ? I can see it now from Dusty, "Glendon has saved us, but I'll tell ya, he's been out there a lot when the wind's been howling. It's just like fishing."
  19. seriously, what is with that lame ass, limp dick, first-to-150-wins [expletive]??? both you dicks put up 320+ against me the last two weeks! woo woo i've been putting up 320 against everyone. this is like the red sox getting shut down by Gustavo Chacin. !
  20. Cubs - Pirates, I mean, Buddiga - Trots this week. Both teams hacking at everything and walking everyone...
  21. But, Dusty continues to trot him out there because for whatever reason the Cubs need his defense. That, despite the fact that Todd Walker has fielded every chance at 2nd without an error. Neifi has 4 of them in far fewer chances. Baker's old school though and he played the game...
  22. Just keep on swinging. No slow-walking on this club. Why change your approach at this point when you're last in the league in walks and first in singles/ab ?
